I purchased the Apex vs Anterro end of last year from their Vail rep and loved them as a former snowboarder…until Day 4. A buckle broke. Spoke to Gunner and said that rarely happens. Later that day the bottom of mid buckle completely fell off. He was mortified and sent me new buckles. I snagged an old Lange buckle from my buddy as a bandaid fix. Next day at the head wall on Aspen Highlands I was skiing wierd on my left ski. Another mid buckle broke off and the top strap was gone. I was only strapped in by the bottom buckle. Scary. I have been skiing 48 years and never been so freaked out. Lizzie said they would replace the chassis as this was not normal. After an entire week of emailing them their COO put the kabash on that and would only replace the parts. I did get new buckles and I can tell you they do not feel tight. This after 5 days of skiing. They say it’s not their policy to refund. I loved the product but why she I be skiing at risk. The manufacturing is clearly defective (the bought 1000 replacement buckles for this issue) and the design is clearly flawed (how don’t straps just come off?). DO NOT BUY. I was patient and love the idea but no longer.
I've been an admirer of Apex boots for a decade now, ever since I saw my friend's dad wearing a pair, but didn't actually try them until this year. Wow, what a difference they make compared to my old traditional boots. I used to get a locker everyday to store my shoes, so I wouldn't have to walk as far in my ski boots, but being able to walk in these is a total game changer. The walkable liner is a bit stiffer than I expected at first, sort of like a snowboard boot, but is super comfortable, like giant oversized slippers. On slow days with no lift line, I walk right onto the gondola, and strap on the shell during my ride up. I've heard people complain the boot flexes too much, but I've never had any issues. It's not a race boot, but I really drive my skis hard, and never felt like I wished it was stiffer. This is probably the single best change to my equipment I've ever made, and I highly recommend them. Another thing to note, if you're a big guy like me, in any previous boots I've had, my giant calves mushroom out the top of the boot, but I don't notice that with Apex, or if it does, it isn't sore and noticeable like my old boots were.
I can't believe a ski boot could be so warm and comfortable. I have a passion for skiing. But, I've never really been comfortable in my boots. I ski 10+ times a year. I'm a pretty confident skier and found these boots ski all conditions as well, if not better than my two pair of previous ski boots. Expensive but worth the price.
These are ok if all you’re after is comfort but they don’t perform nearly as well as a real ski boot.
I was waiting for a long time to buy the ski boots. I am a very serious skier and my ski boot’s flex is 130. Haven’t tried the new boots yet, but many skiers are recommending it for race. That is the only reason for buying it for this season.
