Great BC boot for the money
I bought these boots early this past November. I have used them exclusively on a 7.5 mile loop (1,300 ft gain) at the foot of our local mountains over 2 dozen times. They have great support, and I have not experienced any blisters or hot spots like others have mentioned. They fit true to size. I have not taken them in for heat molding yet either. My wife has the same boots in the women's version and has not had any blisters either. I think it just depends on the shape of your foot.
Feet Killers
They're stiff which isn't entirely inappropriate for a back country boot, but they don't hold your foot in very well, and ultimately let your heel move up and down. I tried incrementally tightening them until it started causing circulation issues, but nothing worked. To compound this issue, there's a seam right there that the outside of your heels rub back and forth against. This resulted in a huge blister on my heel (we're talking 20mm and only like 2 miles in). After 2 weeks of healing went with thicker, higher quality socks and still got another huge blister. I wish my new skis had duck bill bindings, my old Merrell BC boots never gave me this problem, they're stiff too but they hold my heel still. Overall these Rossis have only one partial season on them and here I am shopping for new boots, again. I gave them 2 stars because the materials and finish aren't bad, and I'm trying to be open to the idea that some people will have slightly different shaped feet and may not have this problem.
Beware of blistering
Same problems mentioned above about loose heels leading to blisters no matter how tightly you tie the laces. Disappointed. Returning.
Watch out, they can be blister makers!
It's a well-made boot that's nice and warm and fairly stiff, but it's too wide in the back and has an unusual lacing arrangement. I experienced several heel blisters wearing them the first few times before I learned what to do to prevent them. When I bought this BC X5 pair in December 2024 it was the only NNN BC-compatible boot that the Seattle Flagship store carried. My older Rossignol BC X4 boots (also NNN BC-compatible, also purchased from REI) finally wore out after about 180 days of use and a ski trip loomed, so I didn't have a choice.
Blister makers
Used these boots one time on a ski of 7-8 miles. Gave me terrible blisters. Same for two of ther people I know who purchased the same boots.
Boots that blister
These were not bought at REI. It was validating to read others got blisters from them. I had the same older boots for several years til it was time to get new ones. The old ones never gave me blisters.
Blistes!
Get these boots if you like blisters on your heels.
Stiff out of box
Very stiff out of the box. Be sure your bindings fit the boot bar thickness
