These work fine, just got them and I've skied 10 miles, no issues. And blaming REI?? They didn't make/brand this product, it's a major brand name found in many stores, they just sell it too. Lots of people use Rottefella bindings without issues. The main thing you're buying here is the skis, and they're good skis! Good float, they kick and glide nicely and they handle pretty well. 3 people had issues with the bindings, if you have these problems reach out to customer service and let them get you new ones. The skis are a good choice for back country exploration, I'd buy them again in a heartbeat! Keep in mind, angry people almost ALWAYS write a review, a lot of the people happy with the product are too busy using it and don't review...
Found a pair of these in the returns bin with a tag that said "brand new, binding issues". I had already seen people's complaints so decided to take a closer look. Turns out there was a little plastic pin engaged in the binding, probably some sort of factory placeholder, making it impossible to get a boot in. I just opened up the binding with the button, popped it out, and it was good to go.
The skis are great and there really is no issue with the bindings. I did buy the skis and bindings from another retailer but I want to let everyone know that the bindings are not defective. What the issue is is they either put a pin in the factory so nothing happens to the binding and shipping and you have to pull that PIN out before you're able to step into the binding securely. The other thing with these bindings is they make the binding so tight that it takes a while to get the boot to snap in securely, once you do get it to snap in securely then each time you set in it snaps in easier. This is a factory precaution for shipping. If you can't click in the first time you try look for the pin if there's no pin in there keep trying because it will loosen up enough that you will be able to click in. This was all brought to my attention by the shop owner that sold me the skis and bindings and showed me what everybody has problems with. It took her about 10 minutes to get the boot to click in but now it clicks in every time.
Bought two sets of these, bindings on both are defective. Takes excessive force and many tries to latch in boots, which often do not latch all the way and come off which seems like a safety issue. We have tried 2 different sets of NNN BC boots. There are many similar reports of defects and behavior for these Rottefella bindings if you check out the binding-only page. Please do not buy these skis or bindings - REI please QC these before shipping or preferably discontinue selling altogether. Seems crazy and a bit irresponsible that these are still being sold with so many reviews documenting the same thing.
Very happy with the skis. Climb hills and can skate on the flats.
I bought these as a Christmas 2022 gift for my partner. Bindings work fine, skis have good float in soft snow and decent grip on modest uphills. We've used them several times this season and had a great time. Not sure what the binding problem is about with previous reviews.
The skis came mounted with Rotefelle bindings which were defective so I returned the skis the same same day I bought them. The store clerk mentioned I was the 3rd person that day to return the skis. What is wrong with Rossi & Rotefelle? Did they think XC skiers wouldn't notice the bindings don't work??
I bought these about a month ago and I have not had any problems with the binding like other reviews have said… So for me, I give it five stars
I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing these. As noted by other reviewers, the Rotafella bindings are defective and do not securely engage the bar on NNN BC boots. I though at first my boots and bindings were mismatched, but that's not the case. The bindings simply do not work. This is a rare fail by REI. They should not be selling the skiis with these bindings.
