4x4 luggage
I think Osprey did a great job with this luggage. I have used it on several trips including going to a remote island in Panama where I got wet with rain and seawater on the boat. The luggage is performing well. I like the mix of external materials. The hard shell gives a strong structure for the wheels and trolley handle, and the soft shell is flexible to accommodate items and expand capacity. I was smart from Osprey not to add a fabric liner because it limits organization. The interior mesh gives you the option of using or not cube organizers. I can put my MacBook Pro 16 in the front compartment and other gears. I recommend this luggage.
A lot of problems for this very expensive carry-on.
Osprey is limiting review text, so I will need to make this short. After nearly 30,000 miles and 11 flights this bag has way too many issues. When the bag is flat on its back and you need to access the main compartment (like a normal suitcase), everything in the front pocket compartments will slide out or fall out. The front profile of the bag is tapered. When you lay the bag down this creates a slope and everything you carefully organized in the pockets will slide to the left. Individual pockets better. Shiny front layer scuffs easily. Padded sleeve will not hold 16"" laptop by a longshot. No bottom handle. The double-wheel design may look cool, but for functionally it is worse. Two of the aluminum wheel brackets (or supports?) have bent before I ever checked the bag. I think this is due to poor design. When walking slowly I may use all four wheels. When walking fast I will pull the bag behind and use two wheels. A problem this bag has is transitioning to the two-wheeled walk. The wheels sometimes bind up in the wrong direction. They have resistance to straightening out. I'm just guessing on why the metal is already bent for two of the wheels. A better way is to use single wheels with the axel supports hugging the wheel. The wheels are also showing a lot of wear, with only a few months of use. Top compartment (when on 4 wheels) too difficult to access. Main zipper compartment should open in the orientation wheels to the left, top to right. Main compartment zipper difficult to use. When unzipping around the bottom (toward the wheels) the zipper often locks up. The extending poles are a triangular shape though and may become uncomfortable when pulling with your fingers on the side of the handle, in the corner in which it attaches to one of the poles. There is wheel wobble, but not such a big deal. I won't be using again, if I can help it. I was more polite and thoughtful, but only so many characters I am allowed here.
Thanks to our loyal Osprey users and reviewers, we’ve updated the Transporter Hybrid wheels. Our wheels needed to be better. We are now offering the Transporter Hybrid with a new and improved wheel. The aluminum struts have been replaced by stronger mounting, reinforced axle and molded center cap to reduce wobble, eliminate bending, and making 2-to-4 wheel transitions easier. Thanks for your feedback!
Solid 4 wheel Roller
Have always been a fan of osprey for my outdoor needs so was super excited to see 4 wheel roller for work trips. Bag is well built as expected. I wasn't sure about not having a clamshell style bag but the front loading has less of a footprint when open which is nice when space is limited. My only complaint is that the wheels get speed wobbles when rolling on all 4 wheels even on smooth surfaces so it's not the smoothest bag I have ever rolled which was surprising with how big the wheels are.
So close to being perfect
I've used this bag for about 75 trips now. The exterior material looks like I've been on about 7500 trips. The main compartment zipper is sometimes hard to distinguish from the compression/expansion zipper (maybe add a color pull tab?). The pockets and organization are great. I use a 13"" laptop and it fits perfectly in this bag. THE BIGGEST COMPLAINT IS ABOUT THE WHEELS. They wobble and vibrate - exactly like an old shopping cart. Can I send the bag in for new wheels? If I could fix the wheels and color code the expansions zippers, this bag would be a 4. Add a water bottle holder somehow and it's a 5.
Terrible Quality - Wheels Fell Off, Front Scuffed, No Parts
This is carry-on luggage, I used it strictly as a carry-on and after the first trip, the wheels started to wobble and did not roll smoothly. After the 4th trip, a wheel fell off while walking through the airport. This bag was never abused or used for anything outside of its scope. I purchased it for the quality and warranty that Osprey claims to have. I have had nothing but disappointment with this item.
Wheels Fell Off
The back wheels fell off during the first use, I didn't even make it out of my departure airport. I own six Osprey suitcases and have bought many more for family and friends, this is the first case I would not recommend.
Almost perfect carryon
Ecstatic to find Osprey finally has made a 4-wheel spinner carry-on. Surprised by its lightweight design but with enough pocket organization to keep everything orderly. Now just to add some D-rings or even better some foldaway straps, and this will be perfection for travel and occasionally commutes! Got during the member sale, and I’m looking forward to many years with this, knowing Osprey will stand behind it with their lifetime warranty.
Did not stand the test of time (6 trips)
This product was great for the first trip. However, over time this suitcase failed to do its main purpose- roll. After 6 trips, the wheels no longer roll correctly and I now have to carry the suitcase through the airport. Additionally, the material used on the bag scuffs and pressure points in the bag are apparent after one trip. It is such a bummer because I never would have expected this kind of quality concern from Osprey. I'm sure Osprey's other suitcases are amazing, but this one was a flop. Do yourself a favor and choose a different Osprey bag.
Wheels that wobble, clatter, rattle, and shake
I really wanted to love this bag. It was exactly what I wanted down to the last detail. Perfect size. Great design. Awesome materials. However, the wheels are terrible. After just two trips one of the wheels started wobbling and rattling like a bum wheel on a shopping cart. Now all the wheels, no mater which orientation I roll the bag, rattle, wobble, clatter, and draw attention. The bag now doesn't even track with me as I walk and it's so noisy my wife walks five steps behind me. I watch as people with bags purchased for 1/4 the price roll by me in silence. Meanwhile I'm clanging down the terminal with my wheels bouncing around like crazy. Worst. Wheels. Ever. BTW, I still love Osprey and have been a loyal fan since my first Osprey pack in 1994.
Great bag but noisy
This is a really well thought out bag and I use it to commute every day including a train ride and a 1 mile walk on tarmac. It’s got all the pockets you need and handles to move around. My stuff stays safe and the large wheels are great for charging across tarmac and up and down curbs to commute to work. Concerns are the noise of the case - when getting home late at night people come to their windows to see what the noise is! This is tarmac specific though as it is nearly silent on tiles. The handle feels a bit flimsy at full extension but works absolutely fine still and no problems. The laptop compartments don’t fit a macbook pro or HP probook (with number keypad). I’ve had to buy my own cushioned case and store my laptop in the back compartment.
