I bought these boots in early January as a beginner with great hope that they’ll be fine despite the past reviews about the BOAs loosening. Boots started out great in the beginning and were very comfortable but in less than 3 months after, it happened where I would constantly need to constantly readjust and retighten them. I would even feel them loosening up while i’m riding. Unfortunately, it seems like the constant loosening of the BOAs for these boots is a manufacture flaw for others as well. It’s a no-go for me and therefore, I returned them.
I loved these boots as far as comfort goes-- they provided the perfect stiffness and the foot box was wide and comfortable. I had multiple issues with these boots though. The velcro got caught on the main tongue every use because as a person with normal calves, I could not velcro them the entire way shut. After 5 uses, the tongue was completely destroyed and torn up and foam was exposed. I also had an issue with the external boa control popping off mid-run, which was extremely dangerous as I had one boot loose for the remainder of the run.
Aside from the fact that REI sent me a used pair that was stained and already broken in…these have a very deep heel pocket. I couldn’t get my foot all the way back without hurting my my Achilles. If your heel extends back beyond your ankle, these may be a good fit for you.
Glad I tried these. It was at the end of the season and not many in my size were available anywhere. I tried so many pairs earlier in the season and I wasn't quite happy with any of them. Had to return all of them. These were my last resort, and they were just perfect.
Still breaking them in, but so far so good! They fit true to size and my feet were still dry at the end of the day. I'm still breaking them in, but I found that I had to readjust the Boa every couple of runs my first day. Overall happy with my purchase so far.
Liner is painful. Cored area for ankle is hard and digs into bone. Unfortunate because I liked the feel and stiffness of the boot.
They loosen up. After every couple runs I have to retighten them.
