I am an occasional backpacker and after 15 years of hiking my old Osprey Atmos had finally had enough.. the materials were starting to fall apart and after Osprey had repaired it once a couple years ago it was ready for replacement. Osprey replaced my old Atmos 65 with this Atmos LT 50 as part of the All Mighty Guarantee... the downsize and the simpler LT model were my choice and they honored it for me. Let me tell you this thing is WORLDS better than my 15 year old pack was even new! Stronger materials are used in areas that wore quickly on my old pack, the minimal design and smaller size is perfect for my gear that has lightened over the years and though this pack is slightly heavier than my old one it carries the weight MUCH better with the AG suspension, and feels lighter somehow. I am beyong thrilled with this newly designed Atmos as I tried the Exos and found it too minimal for me as I am not a weight weenie(although fully packed with food I am a smidge under 20lbs). This LT model is the perfect step up from the ultra light packs for folks like me that have lightened up over the years, but still want to be comfortable hauling a little extra. The one thing I will miss is the treking pole straps to quickly store them while scrambling up rocks or for road walks, but i made the decision to lose that and its a minimal sacrifice that I could potentially even fasion something for on my own so its not a big loss. I love this pack! Oh and the colors look better in person, not as pukey green, lol.
I couldn't be more pleased. My wife and I are going to Yorkshire and walk the Herriot Way in September. We are also planning to walk the St. Francis Way in the Spring. Deb needed a new day pack and since in the Spring we won't have portage, we decided to go ahead and get a backpack. We did tons of research, including visiting the Athens, GA REI store where we tried on different packs. After listening to our plans and needs, they recommended a 50 liter pack. We didn't buy then but did lots more research and decided to get the Atmos/Aura 50 LT since it's actually cheaper. We bought from the online store since the Athens store didn't have our choices in stock. We've been breaking them in and they are super comfortable. After a few days, we drove back to the REI store in Athens and they helped us adjust our pack. They remeasured and from that set up our packs. There was a big difference from our settings and the packs are now even more comfortable. The Athens GA staff are to be commended for their kind and professional help. I'm so glad we are members of REI and buy from them instead of a generic online store or a big box sporting goods store. This is a big, long term investment and we believe in doing it right the first time! Used for day hiking. I'm 6' and weigh 180 pounds. I plan to keep pack contents under 20 pounds, with 15 as the target. BTW, I'm 74!
The bag itself is excellent but unfortunately if I carry a weight greater than 10kg or so the hard edges of the belt dig into my hip bones . I have tried to adjust the fit but nothing seems to work. A google search reveals that other people have had similar issues and Osprey has provided additional padding which seemed to help?
Great pack, ideal for a few days out wild camping. Lots of useable spaces and soo comfortable compared to other makes I’ve had in the past. Three trips out with full kit and no complaints.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Thank you so much Osprey!!! You really came clutch with this backpack, a great replacement to my older backpack, I am now ready for my next adventure :))))
It’s exactly as expected, very comfortable with heavy weights and it’s great quality. I have nothing bad to say about it.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Excellent backpack. Adjustable for comfort. This is a great option for short and long hikes/camping.
Great product. As a professional walking guide, Osprey has always been my go to bags.
Superb quality everywhere and durable. Superb comfort. A few nip picking things I may do different is add an umbrella holder on the shoulder straps with molle webbing that I have seen done and is quite neat. Also the stow and go trek pole holders. Also I noticed the lid on top has 4 little molle like webbing straps and that is it. It would be much better if there was 2 more in the middle and all 4 were horizontal? and not diagonal? so you can attach a shock cord or straps to hold a blanket, rain coat or etc. As they are now you can't really do much with them especially with only 4 spaced so far apart and facing diagonally. But not a big deal and not worth a point deduction as this pack is exactly what I needed since I am almost 60 and it is so comfortable and adjustable and just hugs the body with nice air ventilation also. Once you load it right and adjust it accordingly is when you really notice this compared to a cheaper pack that just breaks you down and wets your clothes in sweat. I will never buy a cheap pack again as it is better for me to go to a premium one like this Osprey and spend a little extra for one that is made the way it should be to achieve the comfort, adjustability, and durability level needed to enjoy ones self when out and about other wise I would just be miserable and broke down with a bad back and knees. Trust me at my age its should be easy to understand.
