Keeps your head warm in the wind

I've had mine since 2015. It was a smart purchase. I bought it to block the wind and to keep my ears warm while hiking 14ers. This hat did just that. It packs well and is always in my packs where ever I hike. I do a lot of winter biking and it fit perfectly under my bike helmet. Just recently I lost/misplaced it. I need to get another one fast. This hat will make your head warm. When your head is warm, you hike happy. Enjoy it and happy hiking.

Hugely disappointed

Bought this to replace a very old version of the same hat, but this one doesn't come close. It is poorly constructed, so when pulled tight on my head, it has 2 bulges on top that look like little horns, which makes it look totally ridiculous. And unlike my old hat, the whenever I move my head at all, and the fabric rubs on the earpieces of my glasses, it make a very loud scratching noise that echos in my ears because of the earflaps. Totally unwearable. Hugely disappointed, because I've loved my old hat for many, many years, and wanted to replace it because the elastic chin strap has lost it's stretch, and now hangs way down. Will be returning it.

A great cold weather hat!

For years, I wore a similar Gore-Tex Wind Stopper hat from another manufacturer. The cord lock on that hat was a large, barrel style, unlike the smaller & flatter cord lock on the OR Peruvian Hat. This may not seem like a deal breaker, but a large cord lock that puts pressure against the neck is not desirable. This hat is worn at least 90 minutes every day during cool & cold weather - roughly 4-5 months each year. For such a lightweight & thin hat, the wind protection is incredible. During blizzard conditions, a knit sock cap can be layered over the Peruvian Hat for additional warmth. Folded up, it stores in a tiny space. And it looks great while being worn.

Been all over the planet with this hat...

Great hat. All the practicality of a windproof hat without the bulk-perfect for under a helmet, for sure. Most jackets have a hood so if you REALLY need bomber warm, this is a great base layer to a 2-layer approach, which makes it better than carrying two hats and provides great ear protection without the dreaded riding-up or slipping, made all the more secure with the chin strap. I have lived in this for weeks at a time (including sleeping) outside and its the one I keep using because it's so versatile.

The Micro-Bikini of Peruvian Hats

I thought this hat would be more substantial. I couldn't believe this hat was in the package when it arrived. What I was hoping to be a serious Winter hat turned out to be a thin, minimal, sporty hat meant more for running or as a helmet liner. It does have a strong seal around your face but this also acts like a tympanum (like a stethoscope) to magnify rubbing or tapping near your ears. Fit on the headband was too tight for my 23.5 head. I would definitely size this as L rather than L/XL.

Cuts wind great but awkward

A light amount of insulation make this hat good for moderate activity when cold (-5C - -25C). It's light, easy to tuck away, and the draw string works to batten the hatches or flip up the ears. It fits nicely under a helmet and cuts wind great when cinched. What keeps me from wearing this hat often is it looks dorky and doesn't feel cozy warm, so for kicking around you'll want a different hat on a colder day. Also, it muffles a lot of sound, maybe it's the Windstopper.

ugly but best hat out there

This is my second hat that I have purchased ....loved them too much. They are definitely wind proof and will definitely keep you warm have tried it in -30 celcius...no issues and when you sweat in it maintains heat perfect and it drys real fast as well Also draw strings will help keep ear muffs from ears if you do not need to cover them and draw strings help from losing hat when not in use... biggest con is that its ugly, my kids make fun of it each time I wear it

Great hat for winter cycling!

I needed a hat that fits under a bike helmet. I've used beanies in the past but they don't do a great job of covering ears. This does. It's like weight and both wind and waterproof. I use it to cycle in rural Iowa where temps can fall well below zero and the wind is a constant companion. On below zero days, I wear it over a helmetclava and it is wonderful. Above +20°F I wear it without a neck gaiter and it's extremely comfortable. Great product!

Warm, Versatile, Goofy Looking

I bought this for backpacking, hoping that the over the ear coverage would be convenient in my sleeping quilt and keep my ears warm on cooler summer nights and mornings. I have used it a few times on winter hikes and it has done well, and I wore it while camping in sub-freezing temps and it kept my head and ears perfectly warm down to 15 degrees, and it was in fact a little warm. It is not the most stylish hat ever, but it works as advertised.
