This is my 4th pair of On Cloud but my 1st pair of hikers for an upcoming hiking trip. I absolutely love the look... HOWEVER, they hurt my feet. Every OC I own has been incredible... but these hikers are extremely narrow AND short. The toe box is very small. I have a normal width foot so I was very surprised how small these are!!! I'll try a half size up but afraid my heel will slip out. I wanted these to work so badly. I also tried HOKA but met with the same issues. If I try a half size bigger, the heel is too loose. Pretty confused for what to do.
These are very comfortable, stable hiking shoes. I wore them on hikes to waterfalls, and daily walks in the park. They feel comfortable and stable on hills and rocks. I did get them wet, walking in streams, but I didn't truly test them in rainy situations, however they did prove to be water resistant, at least. True to fit. My normal size fit perfectly. Attractive: thank you so much for making a women's hiking shoe that is not, pink, purple or aqua. I love this Navy blue and Grey color. They are lighter weight than my other hiking boots and I find that wonderful for day hikes. I have already started to reach for them first.
Got my usual athletic shoe size of 8.5. I always go up a half size in an athletic shoe. The shoe felt a bit short when walking around the house and sitting, but while hiking it felt right and I know a 9 would have been too long for me. It's very comfortable right out of the box. No blisters or any discomfort at all. It's a lightweight shoe, yet with a supportive and sturdy sole. I love that the laces do not slip!
I'm very pleased to say that these shoes are pretty amazing! I have gotten quite a bit of use out of them just in the last few weeks. We hike local trails here near Crystal River FL and I'm looking forward to taking them on the AT next month. I used them through our close call with hurricane Ian, which landed 2 hours south of us, through 2 days of having to be outside during the rain, my feet remained completely dry!! I will say that I always take a size 7 shoe, I think I would buy these in a 7 1/2 (my toes are hitting the front of the shoe more than I'm used to), although they may stretch over the next few weeks, we will see. They are not so snug that it's affecting my hikes so I'm looking forward to seeing what the longevity is on these shoes. Very comfortable, no blisters, no rubbing, wonderful grip on the soles, very esthetically pleasing. I have a pair of Vasque hiking boots that I got from Bill Jackson"s and they are actually more comfortable than those are. So my only con is that the size may run 1/2 smaller than usual, but I'd like to see what other people think about that as well. Overall, would highly recommend!
I immediately put these shoes on after opening the box and wore them around the house for the evening. I knew I wasn’t barefoot but could not feel shoes on my feet! Next I wore them on a two-mile walk around the neighborhood, on paved surfaces. Absolute comfort. I deliberately walked through wet grass; the water just beaded on the surface. Then I wore them on a 4-mile hike on natural surface trails and carrying a 10-pound daypack. I never felt the rocks or roots under my feet. I went through more wet grass plus a 1-inch+ puddle and this time the water beads soaked into the surface but never reached my socks or feet. I had no need to change shoes to drive home; my feet didn’t seem to know they had been on a hike. FYI: I have high arches and insteps plus have had surgeries for bunions and hammertoes. Also, I am in my mid-70s.
I was excited to try the ON Cloudwander shoes. I've now put about 20 miles on them. They are nearly perfect for me. Likes: I like a softer shoe as I struggle with the balls of my feet getting aching but these were comfortable right out of the box. I hike on a pretty rocky trail regularly. These have enough padding that my feet don't feel sore, atleast not on shorter hikes. Haven't tested them on a full day. They feel very secure going up and down steep terrain. It's also been really dry and slippy but I've never felt like I was in danger of sliding with these. They've held the trail well. The fabric and toe material has held up well, no signs of wear or scuffs yet. Dislikes: The dislikes are mainly personal preferences. I tend to gravitate towards Altras for the wider toe box. These are comfortable with my thinner socks but a with heavier sock they're just too tight so I most likely won't wear them as it gets cold. I wish there was just a little more width for my toes. They aren't narrow but a little wider would make my feet super happy. Second, the tongue is a little thick and not wide enough. I have to adjust the tongue a lot to position it where it will pad the top or the shoe rubs my ankle. This is my lease favorite thing about these but I think in time it will be less of an issue as the material softens. Lastly, and this is so minor but I don't think they're very pretty to look at. I like a little more color. They're a nice shade of blue but not my favorite looking shoe. Definitely wouldn't keep me from them though. I am a 6.5 in regular shoes and 7 in running and hiking shoes/boots. These fit great for length in 7 for me. I was not able to test how waterproof they are . Overall, comfy, sturdy and grippy. Will for sure keep these in the rotation. I received these in exchange for my honest review.
I've worn these on and off for the past few weeks on dry, packed trails and also while running errands. They were comfortable right out of the box, and I appreciate the sleek design, you can easily wear these from the trails to the town. The sole is sturdy, and I don't feel rocks as much as I do with my lightweight trail runners. These are a bit heavier than I'm used to - but if you are looking to only have 1 pair of three-season (four if you are in CA like me) hiking shoes, they are a good option. A note on fit: these definitely run slightly on the smaller & narrower side. I'm a true 7.5 and tried these in a 7.5 and they *just* fit. If you are in between sizes, you may want to try sizing up.
I was given these shoe for a promotional review and was looking to use them for light hiking and walking. I normally wear a 7 street shoe. I ordered them in a 7.5. which is the size of my Merrell and Vasque hiking boots. I wear an 8 in Brooks. I have a narrow foot. These shoes felt great the moment I put them on. Lots more support than my Brooks and the sole and footbed were wonderful. They were perfect for my more narrow foot. Unfortunately, they were just a little short for me. I would probably do better with the 8. They were ok for a casual walk, but more than 3 miles or downhill they felt short. I tried different socks but to no avail. These shoes are great and a half-size up would have made these my dream shoe.
I've worn these on a few short hikes so far, and I'm pretty happy with the features. The chunky soles have great traction on loose dirt and leaves, and there's a comfortable amount of padding to keep my feet happy. I haven't gotten to test them in muddy conditions, but in light rain they've done a good job of keeping my feet dry, without getting excessively sweaty. When lacing the shoes, the last outer eyelet is open, while the corresponding inner eyelet is closed. I'm not sure what the purpose of this is? I've had a bit of a hard time getting the fit adjusted just right. Too loose, and my heel keeps sliding up and down when I walk. Too tight, and it's painful at the top of the foot. If these came in a Wide size, that might work better for me. That said, if I can get them adjusted right, these are likely to become my go-to hiking shoe for casual woodland walks that don't need a heavier hiking boot.
Shoes are very comfortable and stable w/deep treads. I have used them on uneven ground, trails, gravel, & sidewalks including steep incline areas. Normally I require narrow shoes w/narrow heel area but I was able to tighten the shoe and did not experience any heel slippage. I appreciate the lower ankle area as I have pain if a shoe rubs against my ankle bones. I've used them almost daily for a couple of weeks so I can not address the wear over time. I did size up (normally wear a 5 or 5 1/2 & used a size 6). This is my first On shoe and I plan on buying other shoes in their product line.
