Only enough pocket space for 4 stars
Cons: For the price of these shorts you'd think they could extend themselves enough to include better pockets. It's just not hard, yet the pockets are uncreative and small. The quality control is also questionable. Of three pairs I've tried of the same size, each fit differently with noticeable differences in the waist band and leg opening girth. Not sure what's going on there? Pros: What they lack in functionality and creativity in pocket design, they make up for in style. I really like the artistic designs and they are also really comfortable (at least the ones that fit well). It's surprisingly unusual to find a brand that is willing to produce unique designs that seem to largely resonate with the runner/climber/outdoor crowd, so props to these dopamine addicts! But on that note, I wish they stuck with the "Enjoy that dopamine" tag line instead of "run amok." Not every active human that wants these shorts/shirts run amok (I climb/play table tennis/yoga/etc), but they do enjoy that dopamine they get from setting loads calories on fire.

Wet
Weird shorts. Look and fit are great, but they aren't quick drying at all! It's humid here in the northeast, sure, but I definitely expected better performance in this metric.

Excellent running short

After experience chafing with the liner of the REI Swiftland 5" shorts, I gave these Roark's a try since they were on clearance. My first run in these was 8 miles at 7:45 min/mile and these proved to be excellent shorts. The liner holds everything in place, but feels like it disappears. The crotch is high enough to prevent my thighs rubbing together. The fabric is light and breathable. I didn't use the pockets, but my iPhone 15 Pro fits in the rear zipper pocket and the others seem like a great size for gels or a card. Overall, I'd highly recommend these and even ordered a second pair.

love these

Bought these on a whim. Probably my favorite pair of running shorts now. I hate pickets in my running shorts and these only have the one in the back. Liner is pretty comfortable too

Good shorts, graphics may peel.

Have 3 pairs of shorts from Roark, two are Alta 5". Fit and comfort is good. My only complaint is that the "Enjoy That Dopamine" graphic began peeling off after a couple uses. The other two shorts and one hat I have from Roark have not had this issue. Not a big deal but weird to see this so early on.

Finally. Running shorts actually made for running.

These shorts are awesome! I bought one pair, tried them out, and immediately bought a second pair. The four way stretch fabric, comfy liner, and purposeful pockets make them amazing for any distance. These are NOT lame athleisure wear running shorts. These are running shorts built specifically for running.

Finally some comfortable running shorts

Saw these about a month ago at the REI Store in Chandler, AZ however I couldn’t justify buying them right then and there. I had to sleep on the thought for a bit and wait. I bought these shorts on a whim on pay day. I wore them the next day and they felt amazing. The inner liner (hammock) is amazing and feeling comfortable and the liner provides outstanding support. I also love the idea that these shorts don’t have pockets. Quick drying is an added quality that I enjoy.

Almost Perfect - Thighs Too Tight

I'm a muscular build with a standard 32" waist. I tried these shorts in size Large and the waist was too big but the thighs were perfect. I then tried a Medium and the waist was perfect but the thighs were too tight and rode up. Had to return both pairs and am now searching for another short for marathons.

Clammy & Not Breathable High Quality Shorts

First of all the quality and fit of these shorts can't be beat, the construction of these shorts is a cut above everything else I've worn. However the choice of material is very odd. The shorts are nearly waterproof so they look and feel like they are made from a trash bag once you start sweating. I understand there may be places where people don't want breathable running shorts but I've never been in that situation.

Roark Alta Men's Shorts - maximum comfort & style

Man, are these shorts comfortable! I love the lightweight coolness of Roark Alta Shorts, they flow with my every move, and the style is really cool too. I bought two pair so I can rotate them during the week. I'm planning to buy more to fill out my options for comfortable athletic and hanging out shorts. I highly recommend giving them a try.
