Great protection in a very lightweight helmet.

I received this helmet for the purpose of testing and providing feedback. My daughter and I cave so I transferred her light from her normal Petzl Picachu helmet and off we went. For those with smaller heads, at the very snuggest fit the adjustment bands come very very close to the ears. I asked my daughter about it and my concern was unfounded; she didn’t even notice. What she did notice was the dramatic difference in weight from the full cover and padding of her other Petzl helmet. You bang your head in caves. All the time even for those of smaller stature. I didn’t notice any deformation ( I have a Black Diamond helmet of similar composition and style and it is heavily dimpled now). If we were in a location known for falling debris and stones I think the openness would be a concern. If you are not using this helmet in that scenario I think you’ll really like this helmet. There are only two minor demerits; one, the rear headlamp band guide is a single versus a dual on most other helmets and two, the chin strap buckle is needlessly complex. Bottom line, I’ve looked at one for me too.

Fantastic and Super Comfortable!

I love this helmet. I had trouble with my previous helmet sliding around on my head even when I tightened it down to the smallest head size. Because this has the additional headband that works with a ponytail, it made it more adjustable than other climbing helmets I've tried and it sat perfectly on my head without slipping around for an entire day of trad climbing. Felt snug and secure the entire time. I often like to wear a hat underneath as a sun barrier, and this works well with that. Still stayed in place. I also tried it with ear warmers and my beanie - still snug and secure. It's easy to adjust the sizing to make it fit you perfectly. The buckle took me a couple of tries because it's a different style than I normally have seen, but once I figured it out, no problem at all. I ended up climbing in a lot of wind, so the vents didn't mean much to me at the time, but at the same time, I definitely could feel how on a hotter day, I would appreciate them more. It's nice and lightweight, but feels sturdy on your head. Recommending it to all my climber friends.

Very Light

This helmet is really light and comfortable. The foam is covered with a thin layer of plastic which is enough to keep the foam from getting torn to shreds, but is still thin enough that the helmet can ding easily. Durability is not this helmet's strength, especially compared to the cheapest Petzl, and Black Diamond helmets which have thick hard heavy plastic shells. I have used it minimally, and it is already showing dents and scratches. The advantage is that this is tied to how light the helmet it. It weighs a small fraction of those cheaper, more durable helmets. Overall the helmet is very well designed. I tested this model because it is designed to work better with pony tails (I have long hair). I'm not sure how much better it really works better than other helmets in this way. The sizing proved a little small, so I had to expand the straps all the way to get it on. The tightening system works well, but takes some getting used to. You have to develop a sense of where to push on the helmet to tighten it properly. One feature I was initially skeptical of was the system for attaching a headlamp. The bungee cord system seemed like it would wear out and had no obvious purpose, but it turns out to be a great design. I was in the middle of a rather fraught bailing from a nasty epic as it was getting dark, and that was when I found that this system makes it remarkably easy to attach a headlamp to this helmet without having to remove the helmet (this is not true on my other helmet which uses four clips, two in front, two in back). I would highly recommend this helmet for multi-pitch climbing and mountaineering. It is light, it is comfortable and generally works very well. For anyone seeking to climb big objectives, this helmet is a fantastic option. For people single pitch climbing or something else where weight is less of an issue, then I would probably recommend a cheaper and more durable helmet. For something like canyoneering, which can bang up a helmet, I will probably continue to use my heavier helmet with a thick hard plastic shell because I want this helmet to last. At some point I was on a climb with this helmet with ice coming down around me. There is more than enough foam in this helmet, and the outer shell is just hard enough that I felt well protected, and didn't have to worry. Going forward, this helmet will be my go to for long climbs and mountaineering.

Multi-purpose helmet for ski touring & climbing

I got this helmet to replace my Petzl Borea which was primarily a rock climbing & mountaineering helmet - the Meteora is also suitable for ski touring (check the ratings for int'l safety guidelines) and it covers more of the front of my head vs. other rock climbing helmets. Lightweight and fits well; the buckle is different than what I'm used to but slowly growing accustomed to it.

Lighten my load!

I got this as a replacement for a well-used Ecrin-Roc helmet. It weighs in at 225 grams, half the weight of my old helmet! This will make my neck very happy when spending time looking upward while belaying. Besides being so much lighter, I also like the attachment for my headlamp, 2 clips in the front and an elastic cord in the back for a quick but secure placement. The chin strap closes via a magnet, so no more fiddling around trying to get something you can't see lined up. Lastly, they've replaced the wheel size adjustment with a piece that adjusts at the two ends. This allows it to be curved and accommodate a ponytail if you happen to wear your hair in one. You simply push on the two sides until the helmet is snug. So happy to have upgraded!

Great design, tight fit

As a long-haired male, a helmet with a gender-neutral appearance but space for a ponytail is attractive. From a design perspective, this helmet appears great. It is lightweight but feels sturdy. The design does leave room for my ponytail to fit and the magnetic clip makes it a breeze to put on and take off. It has good attachment points for a headlamp and goggles and is easy to adjust the size. The lip fits well with glasses and provides good sun protection combined with sunglasses or goggles but doesn't overly impede my field of view. Sadly, the size of helmet provided for review (S/M) is smaller than expected and barely fits on my head at the maximum size and a larger size was unavailable. I am able to put the helmet on but the plastic adjustment points dig into the back of my head. This causes a headache after several minutes of use and so I am unable to provide a proper functional test. It does feel that, with proper sizing, it would provide a snug and stable yet comfortable fit (the materials have good flex and friction) but I'd recommend sizing larger than expected, particularly if you plan to wear layers underneath (i.e., a hat). Also, while the magnetic clip is great, the strength of the magnet does allow it to feel attached even when the actual locking mechanism has not engaged. I'd strongly recommend verifying the closure before use, particularly in environments where dirt or similar can interfere (i.e., most climbing environments). This is trivially done with a slight pull after closure but would be easy to miss when unaware.

Finally a helmet that fits!

I have the tiniest head. Finding hats and helmets that fit is impossible. The Meteora nails it though. I can dial in the sizing and then it stays put. It doesn't shift or slip over time throughout the day like some helmets I've owned. The only downside? No MIPS. Petzl, please, please, please make a MIPS version!

Comfortable and light weight

I have been on the hunt for a new climbing helmet and ordered this one based off a rec from a friend. It is very light weight and breathable, and has lots of room for a ponytail in the back. It is one size fits all, and fits me pretty snuggly even though I don't have a particularly large head, so if you have a big head, you may want to look at the unisex version.

Fits perfectly

This is my third helmet, and it's my favorite. It fits the shape of the head so well, it almost molds to it. That's no hot spots, no pressures. Very comfortable, secure, and light. I appreciate that the straps are magnetic, which isn't necessary, but makes it such a quick and easy process. Would highly recommend to all my climbing friends.
