Seamless fit and feel!
When you're climbing, you want your harness to essentially be an afterthought. Safe, secure and technically sound so you don't have to worry. This harness achieves that and more. It's crazy lightweight and outperforms other harnesses at the price. Plus, it's durable and robust construction makes for a perfect indoor / outdoor, year round quiver killer.
Great for smaller climbers
I LOVE this harness!! As a petite female guide at Pisgah Climbing School, this is the only harness that fits around my waist and doesn’t sag in the back from the weight of my gear. Can carry a whole trad rack, draws and anchor material.
Compact
Best thing about this harness is how compact it is when you fold it down. I can fit this and my 35m gym rope much more easily into my bike commuting bag. The tradeoff is that the narrower waistband wasn't quite as comfortable to hang in, but we'll see if it breaks in over time. The orientation of the rear accessory loop made my chalk bag hang twisted. Easily fixed by adding a second carabiner or using a chalk bag waist belt, but a bit less convenient than my previous harness whose accessory loop ran the other way. Based on the sizing chart, I went with a Small, but I should have sized up. As a person with a long torso, I found leg loops sometimes ride up in the front crotch area.
Comfortable, light, and durable
Great harness for sport / gym climbing. It's a little stiff at first but breaks in nicely. Runs a little small so size up for a good fit. Really comfortable for long days at the crag or long sessions at the gym. I never noticed any discomfort while hanging or belaying. One of my favorite aspects of this harness is how durable it is, I've been abusing it for over a year and the tie in points and belay loop are not showing hardly any wear compared to other harnesses I've owned in the past. I've worn out other harnesses in 3-6 months with similar use. This one is built very well.
Flawed but functional - make sure to try on!
This harness is extremely lightweight, which is very convenient and nice when packing around gear, or running tight on space. There are two useful elastic straps on the back that help to keep the leg straps from sagging. I think the materials are of good quality, though I would highly recommend trying on this product before purchasing. My waist is approximately proportional to my thighs, and although it fit very well on the waist, the legs felt taut and rubbed weirdly during my climbing sessions. The non-adjustable leg straps are an oversight in my opinion, otherwise this harness would have scored much better.
Comfortable and affordable w/ critical defect
This harness is lightweight, comfortable, and the gear loops are sufficiently sized. The major issue with this (and other Petzl harnesses) is that the gear loops are prone to breaking because they are encased in a thin fabric that holds them to the harness. If this fabric rubs against rock at all, like climbing in a chimney, it can easily wear through and cause you to lose all of your gear (potentially dangerous on long complex multi-pitch routes). Although, this harness ought to be adequate if you are only doing gym/sport climbing that won't put your harness in contact with the wall at all.
A favorite redesigned travel and UL companion
I love this compact and lightweight Hirundos harness. The older versions accompanied me on extended travel to Europe and on backpacking trips and the redesign eliminates old concerns. It's a hassle-free choice for small carry-on luggage, and my top pick whenever I’m going light to places where I want to climb, but I’m unsure of gym or outdoor options until I get there. The most immediate visual difference between the old and new Hirundos is the contrast black lining material that replaces the gray mesh liner. This new lining is fully laminated to the thin foam frame, eliminating the old protruding sewn seams along the bottom of the leg loops and the top of the inner waist belt. To me this is a huge benefit because in extended hot weather sessions I found that the old seams left imprints on my thighs, and while I never experienced chafing, I felt that it could be a concern. The new black lining material doesn’t trap moisture the same way the old gray mesh fabric could, and I’m confident that it will dry faster between gym sessions and backcountry drizzle. Everything else I loved about my older Hirundos harness remains the same on the new model. The redesigned HD buckle closure is now free of plastic and has a black metal buckle instead of the previous charcoal gray, which it visually stands out better during gear checks. The side gear loops seem to jut out for easier access, but my older harness might have had a similar protruding loop profile that ended up being compressed after years of traveling and backpacking. The exterior backs of the redesigned leg loops have a little more rigidity for support without adding excess weight. Others noted that the Hirundos saves weight by eliminating leg loop adjustments, and while this harness perfectly fits me, it’s worth checking out your fit in person. My older Hirundos harness had stretchy mesh fabric and gusset-like seams at the leg loop openings, but now there is canvas-like material that’s more durable and slightly less flexible when I slip this on over layered clothing. I used my backpacking weight scale notes to determine that this new Hirundos in large size is roughly half an ounce heavier than the previous release. That's fine considering that the old mesh fabric lining seemed to trap more moisture, but this new model won't.
Definitely an upgrade but watch sizing!
Holy featherweight Batman! This harness weighs almost nothing. I currently use an Energy Nova harness that weighs significantly more. The leg pads are narrower on this Harness compared to others but it did not affect the comfort and wearability of the harness. I love how you can adjust the length of each leg independently, something that is not as easy with other harnesses. The gear loops are not rubberized and not as stiff as I'm used to but they're still sturdy enough to get clips on and off pretty easily. My one warning is to read the sizing! The range of fit is fairly narrow so get your measuring tape out and make sure it will fit before you purchase. 1/2" more and this would not have fit me right.
Leg loops not adjustable
This harness is very lightweight but sturdy, and would be great for gym climbing, but the leg loops are not adjustable. I got a size small that fits my waist perfectly, but while I could technically get my legs in, it was very uncomfortable and was cutting off circulation. Apparently my legs would barely fit in a size large. Unfortunately this is not a good harness if you have even moderate muscle mass, and is a shame because it would have been very easy to amend this. Please check the leg circumference before choosing a size.
Ok harness
I have used many Petzl harnesses before for climbing, but I can’t say this one is my favorite. The orange color is nice and overall it feels sturdy, but my biggest issue is that the leg loops are not adjustable. They’re terribly right on my legs to the point of being extremely uncomfortable, so if you are someone with an athletic build, especially in lower body - this may not be the harness for you. I always feel as though adjustable harnesses are a must especially given different body types and possibly even different materials of pants worn climbing. While being a “performance” type harness the straps are a bit thinner and less padded. I would probably not recommend this harness to someone unless you’re able to try it on in the store and feel comfortable with the fit.
