Has the potential to be an incredible jacket
I wanted to love this jacket and it came close to being everything I was looking for. However, the fit and features held it back. Fit (Cons): I've found that Rab jackets typically fit narrow in the shoulders and very narrow and tapered in the arms. I have a climber's build with more volume in the back and shoulders and forearms, so I usually don't have much luck with this brand. The Cubit actually seems to be cut broader in the shoulders (or the stretch is just enough to accommodate), which I loved. However, the arms are extremely long and narrow. I have average length arms (0" ape index), and the sleeves came to mid-palm. The arms are very narrow and tapered, and because I have more bulk at the forearm, that sort of cinches the sleeve there. As a result, the entire jacket didn't move very well on me despite the stretch fabric. Fit (Pros): The torso shape is really beautiful. It has an athletic but feminine cut that accentuates your curves. The longer length in the back is a very nice touch and keeps you extra warm. Features (Cons): This jacket really needs a chest pocket and a hood cinch. I consider a chest pocket a crucial feature for outerwear, and most Rab offerings except this one do have it. The hood is very nice and cozy but only functional if your head is the same shape it was designed for. It covers my eyes. Adjustability would go a long way. Features (Pros): The fabric appears to be very durable, although less stretchy than I was expecting after having seen the Mountain Hardwear Stretchdown. The DWR is super solid. Bering Sea with the purple zippers is a stunning color combo. I would totally keep this jacket if these bits are tweaked.
Absolutely incredible jacket
Ooooommgggg!!! This jacket saved me from a very cold, windy night at Mount Whitney. At first I thought it’d be too suffocating when climbing but I was wearing another layer underneath and I did not feel the need to remove it, neither did I feel cold at all. I’m 5’4 135 lbs and ordered a small which wasn’t too tight, you could easily throw another 2 layers underneath and still be comfortable. The hoodie is perfect; tight enough to keep the wind from coming in. The only thing I’d add to it is more length at the top (end of the zipper). I felt like it was too tight to my lips and every time I looked up, it would slide down so I had to pull it back up again. Overall, it is a very nice jacket; warm, light and easy to tuck in your backpack.
