Great leash for running, walking, anything!
I bought these to go with the flagline harnesses. I really wanted to have the one for my younger dog since it can be worn around your waist. I take him running, and this makes it so much easier. Being hands free is great!! I use it for that feature all the time now. It's great for walks and bathroom trips and basically any time he's on a leash. He can pull like a tank, and often bursts off after squirrels or cars. Now he's doing it against my body weight instead of my shoulders. I kid you not, this leash has improved our relationship. I LOVE that the snap locks, because I have had leashes come off before if they get twisted up. I was only going to get one, but it makes a VERY long leash, so I got one for my second dog too so she can have more room to roam.
Light weight tether
The hands free leash is very easy to use and lightweight. It is a bit short if you wear a long bulky coat or if you have a larger waistline. My older dog thought I was a bit too close when he was doing his business but the younger pup was ok with it. Definitely beat if you have a well trained walker that does not pull or chase after animals.
Design issues/ Thin profile makes this too weak
I had high expectation for this leash. Concept is great however the execution is flawed. Features mention strong and strength a few times which this leash is not. I thought that the thin design would be great for travel but the leash does not hold up. Thin design makes its flimsy and it rips very very easily. The first time I walked my dog (an 8 mo old puppy) with it ...one bite of the leash and it almost ripped in half. I realize that a if a dog chewed on the leash it would eventually rip apart but this was a ever so slight bite and the leash came apart. Very disappointed in the quality of this. In reality this is so fragile it needs a redesign. It really is a safety issue. I had to stop using after one use because any more tension on it would easily rip this in half and my dog would be free to run off.
Perfect leash (for the right dog and owner)
I bought this leash for running with my dog and for us, it works perfectly. I had originally purchased the Ruffwear hitch hiker leash, wich is amazing for low impact trail activities like hiking, backpacking or XC skiing. But the hitch hiker leash was too bulky and heavy to run with, it tended to bounce around. So I needed something lighter and the flagline has fit the task perfectly. There are some caveats, but first I'll mention why it works so well for me and my dog. It's very lightweight and minimal but it's also very strong. It has a small (minimalist) bag holder; some people complain that it only holds one bag, which is true but again, this leash is meant to be super light for running. I personally like the clip that attaches to the collar as well, it's very easy to clip on, but it requires a push to unclip (again I think that's a good thing). And in my opinion, any leash for running has to have some sort of waist belt option, running with leash in hand just ins't good for longer distances and impacts form. But is this leash for everyone? No. If you only walk your dog and/or you don't mind holding the leash in your hand then probably don't need such a lightweight option (not to mention somethign so pricey). And even if you are a runner, this leash still might not be best for you. If your dog doesn't do well on leash, if they like to jerk you around then you probably want a leash with some bungee in it. Also, when it's tied around your waist, the remaining leash isn't very long. So again, if your dog likes to dart around and explore on leash then it might get frustrating. So who is this leash for? If you plan to run (or walk with hands free), if you want a strong, lightweight minimalist leash, and if you're lucky enough to have a dog that nicely runs next to you without pulling, then this leash is perfect!
I like this leash. Will you? Mmmaybe.
Many of the reviews say this leash doesn't function well as a running leash and that's probably why I like the product; I've never used it as a running leash. Bit of a failure on the product's part since that's what it's marketed as. I HAVE used the adjustable end to slip around my dog's neck as a makeshift collar though. I actually like having this leash in my car because I know I always have an easy to pocket, spare collar + leash with at least one doggie bag stored in it. Pros *Lightweight-- this is where the product shines *It works well for the way I use it (as a lightweight leash to keep in the car) *It can doble function as a collar + leash (medium to large dogs) Cons *Doesn't function well as running leash (no stretch) *Expensive for what you get *Yes, the clip can be hard to use
Beach-friendly clip on a lightweight leash
So many dog leash clips become stuck open from sand and salt, but Ruffwear clips are designed to withstand that grit. For that reason we’re fans of this lightweight leash. My dog is under 30 lbs and this leash works for him.
Perfect for medium dog
This leash is perfect for my 17lb poodle who is a loose leash walker. I just wish it had a little loop to clip on doggie bags. This is the lightest hands free leash that does not weigh him down.
Not recommended for active dog Rips very easily
Caution very flimsy. Thin design does not hold up to normal use. Not trail friendly. Looks good out of package but in reality is poorly constructed with materials that do not hold up. Not REI quality that I am used to. I reached out to mfr and was denied replacement for product that failed during 1st use. Manufacturer says products are “vigorously tested” but any real life test w dog would have shown this flaw. Don’t recommend this leash!
Great for everyday use
One of the things we appreciate most about the leash is its flexibility in use. I typically wear it around my waist, while my husband tugs the strap taut and uses the wrist strap. I do wish the leash was longer - I think it would be tough to accommodate larger folks who want to use it as a hands-free option. We also use an external bag carrier as the slit in the leash only holds one - it's good as an emergency backup option, I think.
Great concept, but lacking execution.
This is a great idea, but doesn’t work for me as I need to have my hand on the leash at all times in order to give command with just a flick of the wrist. I also didn’t feel that I had enough control of the dog. I don’t care for the locking clip.
