too hot for bbq
Bad first: Put a grill thermometer on the grill and it was 475 degrees in only a few minutes, too hot for thick meats. Also, the edges are even hotter so you need to be careful when using the grill. Just a little disappointed because it plows though propane and you can’t cook all the lower heat stuff like ribs (which you could get a few on there, but it’s not meant for cooking for 20 people or anything) Good: Compact and useable in no campfire areas, even though it’s super hot you can still cook burgers and hot dogs and put a pan on top while grilling, we grilled turkey bacon while cooking eggs in a pan and warming up water for hot chocolate all at the same time which was super cool, first weekend we didn’t even open the camp stove we just cooked on the ignik. Fuel: I have a 5lb tank and it lasted from Friday to Sunday and it actually died on me right after the next time I used it. We used campfire mode for an hour on Friday and also grilled hot dogs and roasted marshmallows and cooked 2 burgers, then Saturday cooked breakfast (turkey bacon, eggs, hot water but not boiling), cooked up some thin flank steaks (4 pieces) and 2 burgers, boiled water over the campfire mode while the campfire was going for about 30 mins (put that water in a thermos for later), dinner was something I can’t remember but I’m sure we have the campfire going for prob 2 hours before bed, then Sunday morning we ate the same breakfast as Saturday and then warmed up the steak and boiled some water (freeze dried meals) on the campfire for about 1 hour while taking it easy, then the fire died out, the. Later I used it as a campfire for an extra hour… and that’s how much it lasted, I think I will likely move to an 11 gal tank so I don’t have to worry about how long I use the campfire mode (because I like the campfire mode)… Knobs and stuff: Good quality but make sure you have a place for the lid, not in the dirt because you will get dirt in your food so keep the lid out of the muck… Also, the hi lo gas regulator settings don’t seem to do anything at all, lo is the same as hi Dear Ignik: Great job but please make the grill setting more dynamic with lower lows, that way we can cook more foods and cook… well, more. Also, I think a cool accessory would be a little griddle too for pancakes or a taller lid for a mini oven, and maybe just maybe a little tiny thermometer for grilling if you get a way to better control the cooking heat. Ok I’m tired no think I’ll go home.
Campfire alternative
Best alternative and safe campfire and it can also be used to grill with! What else do you need?!
Works well.
Very nice piece of gear for car camping. We took this on a trip couple of days after buying it. Used it about 2-3 hours each night and about 1 hour in the morning. I had to turn it down to absolute minimum to reduce flame noise. The noise and flame control are my only complaints. Works well and provides warmth. I put some largish rocks inside, which significantly improved to heat distribution. The rocks also allowed me to turn it off for about 20 minutes at a time and still have warmth. The rocks also improved the visual.
Cooks the sausages, sets the mood.
Very easy to set up and a fun little toy to bring along camping. Works great for roasting sausages and the fire pit setting creates great ambiance. I wouldn't rely on this to keep you warm, however. I took this bad boy out for a spin in Death Valley during a really cold night thinking I would be the MVP of the trip. It made for a nice and romantic night amongst bros, but we definitely didn't feel any warmer from using this.
Awesome and Versatile! Love it
We use this at home and car camping - it’s awesome. Ignik should sell a griddle to place on top for eggs, etc. 100% recommend
