Lightweight and handy but lacks a packing case

I've used the stove on one trip now so I can't vouch for its durability, but so far it's a very handy little stove! It's lightweight, lights quickly, and is extremely easy to use. My only complaint and the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that it does not come with a case. The regulator and the wire burner are separate pieces and while they can nest nicely together for storage, there's nothing to hold them in place. I prefer to pack the stove vertically because I don't want to crush it under other stuff but the pieces just banged around in the bag. That said, the price was absolutely right for me and the stove is an excellent value for your money even accounting for the cost of finding little something to zip it into.

Great stove to keep items warm, but not to cook.

My intended use for the stove sole purpose was to make coffee in a percolator while camping. With the provided great being so high off the burner, it would take forever to boil water. Had to weld up my own stainless steel grate so that the percolator would sit closer to the eye and it still takes 20 minutes to boil water.

Smaller Size, Happy

Took this camping/overlanding a few times in the forest, does a great job overall. Fits in a Wolf Pack laying flat. Significantly quieter than my other Coleman classic stove. As should be obvious with no wind screen any slight breeze will hinder the performance. I appreciate the twist ignition, no sliding on tables anymore to start it. The metal grate fits inside those ziplock gallon size freezer bags with paper towel as noise dampeners which is nice. I wish there was some type of latch for the grate or grooves for straps on all sides to eliminate any rattles (or to mount/secure) and keep the unit together without needing a bag. I will have fun modifying it for my use of course.

Durable and Lasts Long!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this propane cooking stove outside for camping and it was amazing! The stove cooked my big burritos and tortillas easily and we cooked for 2 and a half hours. My family couldn’t believe the stove lasted that long! This is the only time I’ve ever boiled tea or coffee outside for camping. My family enjoyed our camping trip so much, especially the food we cooked in our stove! Definitely recommend!

Perfect for little getaways

This was a great stove for our weekend getaway. It was super easy to set up and use, even for someone without much experience using a camp stove. I have to find a better way to transport it than in the box, but the relatively low profile (minus the igniter and fuel dial that stick out enough I worry about them getting knocked too hard) is easy enough to tuck away in a camp kitchen tote box. It would take up a bit of space but could probably be used on a short backpacking trip but it wouldn't necessarily be my first choice. The only real issue I ran into was when it was windy we had to make a barrier or block the wind with our bodies but unless there are huge gusts going through the recess does just fine for a consistent breeze. I was excited to try the griddle accessory with it but I am starting to think a porch pirate nabbed it. Overall, a good little stove. Perfect for two people. Simple and clean. Mind the knobs.

So many amazing uses!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I don't know where to begin with this Coleman grill- it's been a lifesaver since we got it! Not only is it slim, so it fits in our camping bag, but it's gorgeous! The vintage green is just so pretty. It's still lightweight while being powerful enough to cook a full meal for 2 steaming hot! We especially liked the fact that it cooked evenly. This is for sure a must for any avid camper like us, or just for safety if the power goes out during a storm, it's awesome!

Great flame control, very stable with large pots

This is a review of the Coleman “Cascade 18” single burner propane stove. To be clear, it isn’t so much a backpacking stove as a car camping stove. It’s biggest advantage over smaller stoves is that it is quite wide and very stable. It will easily and safely hold a large heavy pot or pan (like 12” diameter). This makes it a great stove for cooking a meal for several people, heating a lot of water, etc. The Cascade 18 is very similar to Coleman’s “Powerpack” stove, which I’ve owned for many years and used a lot. The Powerpack costs a bit less, but that’s about the only positive thing in its favor, compared to the Cascade 18. The Cascade’s advantages are many: 1. The rectangular shape is easier to pack into a smaller space, than the big round shape of the Powerpack. 2. The Cascade has a built-in, very convenient spark igniter, which the Powerpack does not. 3. The Cascade has a slightly higher maximum heat output (8,000 btu), compared to the Powerpack (7,500 btu). To be fair though, the difference is hardly noticeable, unless you use the highest heat for many minutes, like for boiling a big pot of water. 4. The Cascade has MUCH, MUCH better flame/temperature control. The flame can easily be turned quite low, to a stable low simmer. The Powerpack stove is more of a “full on/off” device. It’s almost impossible to turn the Powerpack down to anything approaching a low simmer, without the flame becoming erratic, repeatedly going out, and having to be relit. I think this factor alone makes the Cascade 18 worth the higher cost than the Powerpack. 5. Of the two stoves, the Cascade 18 is the better overall single burner choice for car camping, although if you’re going to do a lot of cooking for a small group of hikers, and especially if you’re not through-hiking but setting up a base camp, it is just barely light and compact enough that it might make sense to use it as part of a group’s packweight-distributed hike in. I would never say that about the Powerpack stove. And of course, packing in a lot of propane wouldn’t be fun. Both the Cascade 18 and the Powerpack can (with the proper accessories) be run from a refillable propane canister, which is worth doing, for any propane stove you will use a lot car camping. The Cascade does have one potential negative. It doesn’t easily come apart for a thorough interior cleaning. If you accidentally spill or boil over a pot of food, you can easily clean up the top surface, by lifting off the grate. But if anything gets down through the round hole in the top surface, it’s a project to take the stove body apart to clean inside. The top surface is held in place by a snap-ring underneath the burner. While it’s possible to remove and replace a snap-ring without a pair of snap-ring pliers, it’s not always easy. To me this is a design flaw, especially since the top cover would also need to be removed to replace the flame control or the spark igniter. This aspect is not a user-friendly design. Overall I am pretty impressed with the Cascade 18. It’s compact, quick to set up, and has great flame control. It would be even better if it came with a carry bag, and some sort of windscreen. But those are minor shortcomings that are easily resolved with a little creativity. For the price, it’s a perfectly fine stove.

Almost Perfect

This is a great little stove, perfect for more slimmed down car camping trips or just use in the backyard/tailgating. Setup couldn't be more straightforward, both the burner control and igniter are very easy to use. My only complain is I wish it came with a little bag or something to pack it away in. The rack that holds your pan and the valve for the propane tank are loose pieces , and it would be nice to pack them away.

Decent but always need finer crafting

It works, does the job I need it to do for simple one pot cooking. However it does have some flaws. Coleman, in this modern day outdoor gears. You need clever simple design and engineering. 1) Knob turning will always need finer adjustment rather than relying on cheap graphics. Every piece is important to the entirety, the Stover pressure regulator shouldn't be an afterthought. 2) Needs better stability grates. 3) My biggest upset is not providing a hardcase for transportation and for stowing. 4) Needs a solid secure placement to hold down the store pressure regulator. (Hence hardcase)

I love this stove. Used it to warm up tamales, cook eggs and a steak and boil water for pasta.
