Well engineered running shorts. I like how there are no traditional pockets, yet there is a large area on EITHER leg to keep any size phone, plus a nice key clasp, and plenty of areas in the waste band for energy gels/cubes/jellies, etc. One complaint: these run pretty small. I got a large to be absolutely sure these would fit, and these are still high and tight in that size - I really should be a medium in any brand. I feel sorry for folks who are really on the larger side and will think that they might not even fit into an XL in this set of shorts. Last word - it's possible the mesh that holds the phone might tear eventually, but at the moment I consider these shorts pretty great and would buy again.

I would suggest a size bigger, I went with the suggested size and they are extremely tight, I tried them for a workout and they were too snug they were painfully uncomfortable.

Awesome all-round shorts

The hidden waist pockets built into the liner are terrific. They're great for holding keys, credit card wallet, gels and bars. They hold weight well, don't bounce or sag and are comfortable. There are 2 large thigh pockets built into the compression short. I can put my large iphone 13 max pro no problem. The length of the short is just right. Looks great. Very light, stetchy material. Dries very fast. The fit is true to size--I'm 170 lbs, my waist is 32-33" and medium is fine. If you have very large thighs you might want to size up as the compression short might be too tight for you, but it's just right for me.

Love these shorts!

These are some of the best running shorts I have ever owned. I wish I had a pair for every day of the week. Love the original colors. Probably don’t need so many pockets, but they are streamlined enough not to get in the way.

Incredibly versatile running short.

I would give this product 4.5 stars if I could. The only issue for me that brings it down from 5 is the tendency for the lining to ride up when I run, a minor complaint though as it is incredibly difficult to find shorts with a lining that does not. The design with pockets around the waistband is ingenious and proved incredibly useful in my recent marathon, I was able to fit 7-8 gu energy gels without any discomfort, and with room to spare. You could definitely fit your phone or a small soft-flask if that's your jam. I've had no issues with the comfort or fit of the shorts, definitely fit true to size for me. I love Janji products, and these don't disappoint.

Swiss Army Knife of Running Shorts

These shorts are an amazing combination - they are lightweight, the compression lining is very comfortable and then the pockets - the wrap around pocket compartment in the waistband is just a great idea - total replicates having a waistbelt without the bulk. I can get all the gels I need for a marathon in that waist band. Then the compression lining has two great pockets - they sit snug at the outside back of your thigh. I was using one for a phone and then in today’s run actually put a 14oz soft flask in the other pocket and it was totally comfortable and easy to access. These shorts are light enough for short runs and can carry your nutrition needs on 20 milers and above. And they look good.

Good fit and comfy.

The fit is good and the liner offers some compression. Both legs have pockets in the liner which holds a phone well. During a run the phone stayed in place without concern for it getting out. The smaller two pockets for gels hold a small something and in the front right is a small clasp to retain a small key ring. The drawstrings are elastic. If you run with just a phone, ID/CC card, and a key this is a good match.

Cheaply Made

The “cheap version” of this type of running short on other websites is far superior to this brand, which is rare for items sold at REI. The elastic wore out almost immediately. The inner liner is very thin. There are two thin, inner pockets along the inner lining. No other pockets (no small zipper pocket for a house/car key) are available. I had to tie big knots in the drawstring because it kept disappearing into the short. The plastic on the end of the drawstrings quickly broke off. The only good thing about these shorts is that they look good, but you can get a superior product for cheaper elsewhere.

Great for storage on the long runs

(30-35 miles per week, 10:00 min easy pace) I consider these shorts true to size. The inner liner offers medium compression even when gels are stored in the pockets. Outer material can be considered light and dries in a fair amount of time. When all the pockets are used for nutrition storage, the outer drawstring becomes useful. Overall a great 2in1 short for those that desire an alternative of using a storage belt for longer runs.

Solid shorts for running/music festivals as a plus

The pockets are in the lining around the waist, not sure what to put in there except maybe small keys or something I would want hidden at a festival. Feels like and the compression keeps my muscles warm during/post run. Used once so far but I like them for the price when it's on sale.
