Bought these the day before my Iceland trip. I went into REI and was fitted for an 8.5. I typically wear a 7.5. I have a wide foot, small ankles and high arch which makes finding shoes difficult. This shoe was amazing for my winter trip to Iceland. No break in period and no blisters at all! I went on a 6 day tour of the Iceland with these shoes. Which included hikes up waterfalls, rough terrain, some area walking through 3 feet of snow, ice, and more. My feet never got wet. Only thing was I wish I doubled up my socks when I did a whale watching tour. My feet ended up pretty frozen but so did everyone else on the tour so I don’t blame the shoes. Overall, I’d definitely buy these shoes again.
These lasted two years and are now ripping apart near the pinky toe on both sides. They were very comfortable. They were waterproof for one year and after cleaning and waterproofing they never quite held water out after one year. Was a bummer to spend so much on boots that only lasted two years.
Just bought these last month for a two week hike through southern Utah. I put 60 hiking miles on them in twelve days. They are comfortable and supportive. My feet felt good at the end of every day. I hiked varying grades and surfaces, at different elevations. I almost didn’t buy the. So glad I did.
Really pleased. I go hiking once a week, and I've worn these for about a month now. I struggle with metatarsalgia, and I have had no foot pain at all. Because of the mesh, they aren't entirely waterproof, but they've kept my feet dry for most of what I've encountered - except that one trip where I spent many miles in pouring rain that I wasn't expecting - not the boots' fault, though, that I was unprepared. I still hope they break in a tad more around my right ankle, but overall, these boots have made a huge difference in my hikes. They're steady over scramble, supportive on steep declines, grippy in mud and on wet rocks, and just plain sturdy. And again - no pain.
I've been searching for just the right hiking boots to replace my beloved Ahnus, which took me on two caminos and several other multi-day hikes. These boots from Oboz seems like they will fit the bill, although I haven't had a chance to test them on a long-distance trek yet. The shoes run narrow, so I exchanged the regular for a wide width, and that seems to have done the trick. They fit comfortably, feel solid and supportive, and so far my feet are happy in them.
I wanted to love these, since I have loved my previous Sawtooth mid boots and hike in nothing else. I looked forward to the redesign and have waited 6 months to get them. The sole redesign looks great, sleeker without loosing support etc. However, I will be returning because they just don't fit like the old model. The shape of the top is higher in some places and rubs on my ankle. And the toe box rubs on the outside toes where the previous model never did. Can't get the laces to hold the center portion of my foot without being too tight at the ankle.
Just some sizing info for anyone who may have similar feet (I was unable to wear these on a trail). I have a wide forefoot and average size heel with a moderate arch. I ordered these in a wide width. The forefoot was too narrow and very tight across the top of the toes, and the heel was too wide, allowing my heel to slip with each step.
I was recommended the sawtooth model by an REI employee for my first backpacking trip, which was hiking the Grand Canyon from rim to rim and back (50 miles). At the time I didn’t know it was stupid to not break in the boots, but I didn’t before going on the trip. It turns out I didn’t need to. These are great boots that served me well the whole trip and since then. I had no blisters or other issues, and loved that there is really good built-in arch support. The waterproofing does a good job but of course isn’t going to keep you from getting wet in deep water. These are now my go-to hiking boots.
i purchased hiking boots to upgrade from my previous ones that lacked support and were too small. i tried on every boot in the store, and was pleasantly surprised when i found these ones. i got them on sale and was instantly in love. however, after going on multiple hikes, i keep getting recurring blisters around the heels of my feet, and BAD ones. no matter the amount of moleskin or bandages i use it never seems to fix the issue. at first i thought the issue might just be that i have to break in the boot, but i’ve had these for months now and use them regularly with blisters happening after every hike over 3 miles. i’ve tried everything to fix the situation, bandaids, moleskin, tapes, new socks/ sock liners, different sock thicknesses etc, but NONE of these methods seem to fix the issue. i’m disappointed because of the cost of these boots and because the work so well for me in other areas. oboz sawtoot x boots offer me amazing ankle support (for my weak ankles) and i love the stiffness and support the sole offers as well. i also love the fact that the boot is waterproof and i haven’t experienced any leaks even though i live in the PNW. i also love the breathability of the boot, and how the laces are easy to lace and add more support as needed. overall, i won’t be returning this boot but i’m very disappointed about the blister issue. if anyone has suggestions or if someone owns this boot and has found a way to bypass this issue sharing would be amazing.
These would have been my 4th pair of Oboz. However, with the changes that Oboz made to the Sawtooth, I returned them within 3 hours of purchase. They fit totally different from the Women's Sawtooth II Mid Waterproof. Prior to this purchase, I NEVER had to break in a pair of Oboz Sawtooth II boot. I wore this new pair of Sawtooth X around the house for 2 hours, and finally took them off and had numerous pressure points. Boot was so uncomfortable. I am so bummed, as Oboz was my favorite.
