Love it. And it's quiet.

We've had the CFX3-55 for about four years and love it. We keep it in our off-road trailer. I got this second one for the tow car. It's awesome. I have it connected to a Goal Zero Yeti 500x. It's perfect for hot days or road trips. On hot days, we can keep drinks cold when we go to the beach. I put canned margaritas in it and share them at the end of MTB rides on hot days! And it's useful for Farmer's Markets or grocery runs in on hot days. We can go to the store, load up with refrigerated foods, and then do whatever we want without worry. Road trips without the trailer now are even better because we can keep drinks cold and bring better food. No more stopping for fast food! The size is perfect. It easily fits in the back of my RAV4 which has an accessory shelf. It would be a bit small for a family on a long camping trip, but you can fit a surprising amount of food in these fridges. I think the 55 would be a better one for a family or longer trips. But the size of this is perfect for our use in the RAV4. On long road trips with the trailer I put it in the 4Runner. It can even be used as the freezer. So we could actually have a freezer and fridge!! So many things to love about this. Many have complained about the noise. I don't know if there was a bad batch, but it's as quiet, or quieter, than our CFX55. It's not loud at all, it basically purrs. The smaller size also is better for the Goal Zero because it will use less power.

Great performance, not huge

Loving this fridge. It’s first test was a x-country trip and back over 3 weeks. Solid (don’t let the plastic construction worry you) and efficient. Running it off a 700w power station (battery) and 100w solar panel on the roof, and need to use the Jeep regular battery only if it rains/clouds all day. It’s not the quietest fridge out there, but I sleep with my head right next to it (literally) and a foam ear plug does the trick. If it were near my feet, probably would not be an issue. It’s not the biggest you can find, but it packs plenty for my needs. In the main well I put 4-6 canned drinks, one or two raw proteins (a steak and/or a bag of marinated chicken), a package or two of lunch meat, 2-4 small yogurts and a box of oat milk. Somehow I can get a dozen eggs in there, too (in one of those yellow protective egg holders made for camping). I use some square Tupperware to keep smaller/loose items separate and make for less digging (the drinks get buried at the bottom). In the shallow top well (really ice to have this separated space) I fit 2-3 apples and some veggies. Gets me through 3-4 days easy. Oh, and: I was using an ice chest before, and it almost goes without saying, it was fine for 2-night adventures, but the fridge pays for itself in convenience the first time you stay out for 3 or more nights, which you should. Controls are simple. I like simple. Handles serve well for tying it down. I use 4 straps. If you wanted to carry it out of the vehicle, it’s small and light enough to seem just like an ice chest. I’m trying to think of something I don’t like, but I’m coming up blank. So I’ll make this suggestion: If you’re two or more people and you’re going out for 3 or more nights, you’ll probably want a larger fridge. Or get two Jeeps! My wife has a larger fridge in her Jeep, and before I got my fridge in my Jeep, we struggled to find enough room in hers for all the cold stuff, so I took an ice chest. Now with two fridges, we can easily go 3 nights, even 4 or 5 if we’re not spoiling ourselves, before we kinda need to hit a grocery store. Meantime, jerky.

Amazing for road trips

I just came back from my first road trip with this little fridge and it was amazing. I used it with a Jackery 500 and it worked like a charm. It was so convenient to have cold drinks and food without the wetness and hassle of melting ice. My only regret is that I wish I'd gotten the next size up (35). I packed 4 days of food for one person in this cooler and it JUST fit. I think this would be great for weekend trips for 2 people and maybe a week for 1. Anything more than that and I'd go up a size. That said, this is nice and compact and easy to carry (even full) with one person.

Game changing for more than just camping days

Have used for a few trips now and it is AMAZING. We were worried about getting the smallest size, but really glad we are. I usually travel with 1-3 other people, and this is plenty of room for food for long weekends. We run it off a yeti 500X under a truck canopy. Without any power inputs it will last for 48 hours in low 90s heat running at 34* and still have ~ 10% charge left. With a 50W solar panel on the roof even in 100* days direct sun the fridge stays cool & the yeti stays charged at 100%. I was hesitant to buy an $800 cooler + $500 battery system but it is a life changer for camping. No more ice. No more worrying if your food’s spoiled. No more bleaching a cooler after meat leaks into the ice sludge ruining all your food. Bonus is that if I’m going for a ride and want to bring leftovers, I carry them down to my truck with a beer, turn the fridge on, go ride and come back to cold beer and free food (not having to buy anything on the way home after rides has saved me probably $50-80/ week). If you’re thinking about it, yeah it’s worth it!!

Game changer

So far so good for car camping. Happy with this purchase and also very thankful for the reviewer who recommended to use the DC charger (not AC) from a Jackery and set unit to Celsiuis not Farhenheit. Running Unit at 4 Celsius, we can run it off a Jackery 1000 for days at outside temperature of approx 80 Farhenheit. It sips energy basically pulling 43 watts for a minute and then back down to 2 watts for an hour. ( Does depend on how many times you open lid). Since it is hard to gauge what fits in it: right now it has a two pound each proteins, a carton Qt of non-dairy milk, 9 apples, two bags of salad, two blocks of cheese, two cucumbers, bag of broccoli and mandarins in it. We chose this size CFX-25 so that we did not have to worry about the power source continually. The Dometic app works great although limited as an app.

Great size and features / only issue - too noisy

Purchased a CFX3-25 after having the CFX3-35 for about a year. Wanted something with a smaller footprint and a bit lighter to carry around - for shorter trips and for car/tent camping. Loved the 25 size, weight and capacity. Unfortunately, we had one big issue with the CFX3-25 that made it a "no go" for us. Noise. When running at the set temperature (i.e., the compressor was off), the unit was silent. When the compressor was running the sound it emitted was both loud and... (accurate descriptive words escape me). Best way to characterize it was - obnoxious. We ran the 25 and set it in our bedroom the first night of ownership to see how it would work and after a few hours we had to move it out of the bedroom because when the compressor started up the sound would wake us up. Inside a running vehicle or during the daytime, the compressor sound is probably washed down by the other ambient sounds (although you can still hear the compressor during the daytime - it's not quiet). In the still of the night, the sound is way too loud. Our CFX3-35 also makes noise when the compressor is running but the sound is both lower in volume and it is a "gentler" sound (not really sure how to describe the sound and differences between the two compressors) - the 35 compressor sound is definitely more tolerable at night/during sleep time - we've done that successfully multiple times. We really wish there was a fix/solution for the noisy-loud CFX3-25 compressor - we liked the unit otherwise. We considered ordering another one / in case the first one was defective or just out of spec, but there were no more units available through REI at this time (we must have received the last one from their stock). We will mark CFX3-25 as "not recommended" given our experience with this one unit - YMMV. If you do decide on purchasing one, make sure to test it out at night/sleep time before taking it out on a trip.

shuts itself off continually

Have had the CFX3 25l for approximately 5 months now. cons: it shuts itself off continually on DC power from a Jackery 1000 and after reaching out to Dometic about 5x now, they say it is that it’s their DC cord and they will replace. Two months now from initial request to them and still waiting for a new DC power cord! On our end we believe it’s a faulty compressor and will be returning to REI if we do not get it up to working on a new DC power cord soon. Pros: it is a good size for car camping for 1-2 people for 3-5 days. When it’s not shutting itself off and reaching 12C, it keeps food cold at 4C. If you are car/rv camping we recommend that you run it purely DC at Centigrade chosen to make sure it works! AC power pulls more energy off your power bank and don’t try out your most expensive perishables to begin with.,

Nice fridge, but their quality control is horrible! This is my second one I purchased, and it is dirty inside and scratched. My friend had the same problem with his when he purchased awhile back it’s looked like it used out of the box.

Awesome unit

Have had this for over a year, and have taken it with on a number of weekend trips in my SUV. Keeps a consistent temp, even on hot days. Extremely quiet - really don't even notice it running while driving, and at night, it is right next to my head, and the compressor it very quiet. Love that it has two power connectors, so I can cool it down in the house before bringing it out to the truck, and can then use it in a hotel if I choose to.

excellent!

I hesitated due to price; if you see it on sale, snap one up. I read other reviews and changed the temp to measure in Celsius as another reviewer recommended. I also used the dc cord when using it on trip as others found this helped the battery stay strong longer. I upgraded from a super cooler due to issue of having medication that needs refrigeration, tired of stuff getting soggy and gross & having to buy ice all the time. I previously had a travel trailer with a Dometic fridge ; the fridge didn’t work that well but the freezer was amazing, I would freeze 1 gal jugs filled with water overnight to put in cooler for next day adventures to save hassle and $$. I thought of the fridge doesn’t work, I can use it as a freezer to freeze my own water and not have to stop as often or stress about my food or meds going bad. Finally got it out on the road. I precooled it overnight at home. I used jackery 500 as exclusive power source, plugged fridge in via DC/cig lighter plug. It worked for over 48 hr in moderate temperatures, 50s-low 70s. I spontaneously added a day onto my trip and the battery got down to 9% I got a bit worried and used my back up energy source them back to the original one that I had been able to charge up to 23%. I did not hook it up to my vehicle at all. I came home for a day, opened it, let it dry out then re-pre-chilled for Next trip. The next trip was just a bit over 24 hours. The outdoor temp was much warmer (got up to 86) and everything inside was good. The battery did get used up faster with outside warmer temperatures. I kept a thermometer inside to double check That the temp is accurate, and it was. My salad didn’t freeze. My drinks were refreshing and cold and didn’t drip water everywhere. I was able to bring salad, avocados, cut fruit, cheese sticks, almond milk and beverages & my medication safely! It was a lot of room for me. I am going to bring it to store to pick up my groceries tomorrow. That should be interesting test too, sitting in sunny parking lot in the city for hours when it’s hot out. How long will the battery last under such conditions? I don’t know how to tie it down, but Toyota makes slides and things That will work with this in certain vehicles. It didn’t move around the back that I could tell. Made sure to keep space around the fans so it doesn’t overheat, which can be tough to remember when packing for long trip & trying to cram everything in I am also extremely sensitive to noise have a condition that causes hyperacousis, so I’m usually very sensitive to sounds. I was able to slee in my vehicle with this on. Once I heard a low hum and wondered what the heck it was, thinking it was some kind of noise outside my vehicle bc it was so soft. I struggle to sleep with any noises, and o was able to sleep through this. It was about as quiet as my dishwasher which is 44dB and you have to check a light to see if it’s on.
