Wonderful for Zion National Park
I bought these shirts ahead of a trip to Zion National Park, knowing I was packing light and wanted versatile clothes for everything I was doing. These shorts were perfect! I wore them for a 6 day trip and they were comfortable for hiking both regular trails and the Narrows (where you’re hiking through water, sometimes up to chest-high). They were also cute and comfy for wearing around camp and town. Even after a long day of hiking they never “felt” dirty. These shorts dried quickly and I was able to wear them multiple days in a row.
inseam length are different...
NO BUTT POCKET
Cute pattern, lightweight and quick drying. But I hate, and i mean HATE, that there is no butt pocket. The mens version of these exact shorts has a butt pocket. Where am i supposed to put my phone? Not in the front pockets bc they arent that deep and my phone digs into my pelvis while walking. Recently had to send back a womens patagonia shirt and order mens bc the arm holes were the size of a 10 year olds on a womens medium shirt. Apparently women arent supposed to have strong arms or anything to carry with them. Tired of mens clothing being made so much better than womens in regard of usefulness and comfortability. Do better Patagonia.
Most Comfortable Shorts
I bought these for a hiking trip. They were perfect material for extremely warm temperatures and very comfortable shorts. I would highly recommend them.
New cut isn’t it.
Was stoked to snag a new pair of baggies for this summer, but I’m super bummed with this updated cut. I always loved these shorts, as they are functional and were thick thigh friendly, but everything about them has been slimmed down. I attempted to go up a size to get these over my butt and give some breathing room back in the thighs, but then ended up with a massively gapping waist that looked ridiculous when cinched up. A real step backwards in this fit. These are an absolute no for curvy girls or anyone with hips or a butt. The Trailfarer shorts are a great fit alternative, but I really want the water performance of the baggies nylon.
New construction ruined the classic Baggies fit!
I have been wearing Baggies since 1989 because they are beautifully made, durable, quick-drying, have deep functional pockets, and a great fit. I bought a new pair this year and was shocked to find that Patagonia has changed the pattern and removed the yoke across the back. This yoke kept the shorts trim and flat across the lower back and allowed more fabric to be added, flatteringly, over the buttocks - the classic Baggies fit. Now the back falls straight to the hem from the waist, which makes them a tighter than usual across the butt and gives them an unflattering big poof of fabric under the waist. This year's model fits like a $10 pair Target shorts. So disappointed.
5 stars if you size up
I’ve had mine for a while and I reach for them all the time! resistant to dirt and mud, great for hiking and dog walking. I’m 5’6” and 130lbs, pear shaped - I sized up because the medium is too tight around my butt and thighs and I prefer having a lot of room in the legs. This is always a classic Patagonia pant issue for me (waist measurements and actual fit don’t correlate for me personally). Pockets are nice and deep and can comfortably hold a big 6.7” screen phone. Also has a key loop in the right side pocket!! I’ve lost keys so many times so this is a lifesaver. If you see a color you like I’d scoop it up because they don’t usually repeat color ways or patterns.
Really miss the old fit
It's a good thing these last forever, because I think I'll have to wear my seven-year-old pair for yet another summer. The old fit of women's baggies was truly high waisted to the belly button and full in the hips, with a gusset at the crotch. I have an athletic build with more fat and muscle in my bottom and thighs and narrower at the waist. In my old baggies, I could garden, swim, or practice yoga with no restriction of movement. The new design is slightly lower and bigger in the waist, much tighter in the hips and bottom, and the leg openings are significantly smaller. Overall, I'm disappointed in the new cut and really hope you'll someday bring back the older, baggier version.
Hips don’t lie, or give
Oddly or rather similarly to some reviews, I have mixed feelings here. Half the time I love the fit and length of these shorts! They have great pockets, and even a small interior one for an ID, a key or credit card. Then there’s the issue of I can’t easily get them up or down over my hips since the waistband is not very elastic. That itself makes me hesitant to wear these to the beach since it’s a struggle to take them off/put them on. Last is the fabric which isn’t quite what it used to be —it’s scratchy so after swimming or a long hike, it can be a bit crunchy feeling. That said, they are flattering and are true to Patagonia sizing. Recommend trying them out to see if they work for you!
Super cute but note the cut …..
I think these run a little small, albeit could be the cut. My hips are barely 36’, waist 26.5” so I ordered the XS ~ they are cut for women who have less ‘bum’. My 36” are mostly in the rear and I do not have much hip. These are cut for more hip and less rear. I haven’t returned as leave for Hawaii in two days but would love to compare the nest side up if I had time. I could probably get away with wearing these but a tad to ‘thong fitting back there’ for my age I think (63). They are so cute though and I definitely want a pair! I do typically wear a 2 or 4 in Patagonia bottoms. 5’7” 125#, athletic build, for additional info to above if that helps someone.
