The rainfly only prevents the rain from hitting about the top half of the tent vestibule, (door). The rain then leaks in around the lower half of the vestibule. In addition if you don't first shake the inside of the vestibule before you go out of the tent the water on the vestibule comes into the tent. I also found the tent not as long as I had thought it would be because the walls slant more then other tents I have and at 6' 1'' the ends of my sleeping bag would end up touching the walls of the tent and cause moisture to get on my bag. Needless to say I returned the tent to REI.
I purchased the campside tent about 4 months ago and has served us very well. We have used almost every week and it has held up great. Our normal weekend is made up up of camping with my husband, 5 year old son and our little dog. My only complaint is I wish we would have got the next size up. There is enough room for all of us but not a lot of extra room for our gear. I read a couple of people that have put negative things on here but for us this has been a real nice tent. Still plenty of camping weather ahead so we can't wait to get back out again.
I do a lot of camping with my friends in Cougar, WA. Not only is this tent really easy to setup, but it also is very durable against the elements. When I set it up for the first time at the camp site we often go to, my friends were awfully jealous. I told them I got it at REI and two of my friends actually went and got one for themselves. I still cannot believe how affordable yet quality this tent is, I would recommend to anyone looking for a 3 person tent no doubt!
Put this tent through the ultimate test right out of the box! Several weeks of camping (summer vacation) in extreme weather conditions with tons of critters etc., worked flawlessly. We got stuck in a storm one of the nights, and while other campers went to hotels, we hunkered down and were amazed at how the fly kept us dry on the inside. 10/10 recommend!
Picked this up for a Memorial day camping trip. I was very impressed with how simplw it went up. We had a bit of rain and we stayed dry. No it is not a "summit Everest tent" but a great value for a affordable tent. A side note is they actually made a bag big enough to easily get it back in.
As someone who hadn't tent camped in about 15 years, I ordered this tent for a weekend camping trip. It was super easy for my sister and I to it set up and break it down only taking us around 5 minutes each time. We fit perfectly in the tent with room to spare for our gear. We had about 4 hours of steady rain in the early morning hours but came out of it dry with only the zipper leaking a little. We experienced some really heavy wind gusts of around 50-60 mph though and one of my poles didn't survive the experience. Overall though it did the job and would serve as a nice option for camping if rain is the only obstacle.
I go camping quite a bit with the scouts...at least monthly on all types of weather. This tent is great quality for the value. It's easy to set up and we stayed dry. Tear down was just as easy and the bag it comes with actually is big enough for it to fit in easily. We also keep our footprint/tarp with it also.
Easy set up. Good size. Comes with fly
Took this out on its first trip. Set up is easy, but the weather striping on the inside seams was just falling off. Disappointing for any kind of tent regardless whether it’s $30 or $130.
This tent was a bad purchase. It was leaking through the sides of the tent and the main door zipper. No zipper on the window for the main door. I have returned the tent after my camping trip. I was lucky to have my hammock system so I can sleep in a dry place during the weekend. Do your research and set up tents before purchasing your next camping equipment.
