I have researched ebike kits and bikes for about a year now and my daughter finally said lets go to REI. the townie is exactly like my current huffy beach cruiser. They let me test drive it and i never got to the second level of assist when i knew this was it. Got home after they set it all up and added a rack for me and went for a ride, 4 miles later and was convinced it was a good buy. So glad i went with the assist ebike because it will get me outside in the sun peddling instead of just using a throttle. The service was like buying a new car, they really do a good job at the bike department.
I have owned 3 Townies and I tried 2 other E-bikes with more battery power and other extras. Now I’m coming back to the Townie! I prefer a more casual ride now that I’m 56 - and this is the one for me ! I like that the battery is hidden and this is a lighter bike too. Haven’t ridden a lot yet but I can tell the battery will be sufficient for me, but knowing I can add extra power gives me piece of mind. I’m also finally buying my bike from REI and that means a lot to me.
front axial thread and clamp broke after 15 months of ownership. will be see what REI will do about and will up date this review.
