I’ve used this kayak twice now and can say it meets my needs adequately. I live in a very dry climate so I do not have the drying issue that some others noted. Yes, you have to remove the bottom to dry which is easy, just some velcro straps. One weird thing I noticed is that all the pictures of this kayak show one way forward and the diagram on the kayak itself has it backwards. I think I’ve been kayaking backwards this whole time. Manage your expectations about it being a blow-up and this is just fine. I’m a 5’6” female with a medium build and I carried it down 2 flights of stairs fully inflated. It’s not a fast kayak and is best on smooth waters but I encountered wind and still managed just fine. It’s a really comfortable seat too. I got this on sale and wouldn’t pay full price. 3-stars means it’s OK. I am happy with my purchase but this is my first blow-up kayak.
I had a hardshell kayak that I could no longer lift on my own. I sold it and bought this one and I have been thrilled with it. I can leave my house and be on the water in under 15 minutes, including inflating it. Inflation and deflation are both really easy and quick. The kayak is comfortable, sturdy, and stable. It's exactly what I was looking for. It allowed me to take advantage of lakes near my home and work and it allowed me to get out on the water when I had a really limited amount of time. I'm in New England, it's December 2 and I almost took it out today because it was so warm!
I had high hopes for this kayak, and sadly, the best part was the pump (that was awesome!). The paddle wasn’t half bad. The boat, however, was heavy, complicated to put together, difficult to steer on the water, and never dried out. I returned it after 2 uses. If I would have kept the boat for the entire season, you probably would be smelling it through the screen you’re reading the review on. There is a gap between the inflatable floor and the rubber base that’s impossible to dry out. The boat also never again rolled up small enough to fit into the backpack. I wouldn’t recommend this kayak.
I used to have a fantastic hard shell sit in top kayak but over time just couldn’t handle the transport by myself so reluctantly sold it. I am quite pleased with the Tahe Beach LP1! I’m a 67 year old woman (weigh about 130 lbs) and not the strongest kid in the playground but can nevertheless manage set up and take down quite easily. It inflates FAST and same ti deflate. Skegs are solid and easy to attach securely and remove with no hassle. Tracking is satisfactory - I doubt any reasonably affordable inflatable will win races but for my purposes, it allows for a really enjoyable experience and not just bobbing about out of control on the water. Construction seems truly excellent. Seat is fantastic! Easy to set up and deflate. I highly recommend- except for one bit of a warning. The paddle that comes with it is, to me, crazy heavy. My first couple times out I figured I was weirdly doing something wrong or even more of a weakling than I thought. Made the boat a lot harder to maneuver than I’d hoped for. Luckily when I sold my old kayak I kept the paddle and tried that. It made a massive difference and improvement. So unless you lift weights, I’d strongly advise substituting the paddle for a higher end and lighter model. That said, I’m not all that surprised there might be one thing to complain about so it in no way causes me to give a bad review. In fact, I’d buy a second one if weight limit were a little higher (for a family member). But don’t have high expectations of the paddle. With my old and much better paddle it makes for a lovely experience. I won’t win wild races, but that’s not my goal anyway.
I really, truly wanted to love this kayak kit. It seemed like an upgrade from the $100 inflatable that I purchased in 2020. I have taken this boat out twice. Sadly, I'm going to return it. Here's why: - There's a (waterproof) fabric over the bladders... it makes the boat heavy to carry to the water and also practically impossible to dry. If you live in a humid climate like me, you understand why leaving anything damp is a non-starter - There's a gap between the inflated floor and the vinyl/PVC bottom of the boat. This would never dry if you didn't remove the floor - The paddle is too short - There are 3 kegs on the bottom, yet the boat does not track well. It's also super slow. I would not feel comfortable on anything other than completely flat water. I don't think it'd handle any sort of river wave or wind well AT ALL. - The backpack is nice, but it's a pain in the rear end to roll up the kayak and fit it back in when it's wet - The seat is comfortable for what it is - It's really easy to inflate and the pump is great. Love that the pump has a gauge on it. - This boat is very difficult for one person to carry. - I like the open cockpit... but as soon as I packed any gear (in my case a small hardshell cooler), the boat was even more unstable. All in all, it's not worth it. I'd either go with the entry level $100 alternative or a folding kayak.
Ita a frustrating piece of equipment- it comes with no instructions and I couldn’t figure out how to set it up. Sorry, the 7 minute You Tube video doesn’t cut it.. It’s unclear how to fit the pump into the valves. The pump is stiff and really difficult to operate. The shell seems sturdy but all the plastic parts seem cheap and easily breakable, especially the pump, the fins, and the paddle. Doesn’t deflate fully, couldn’t get it back into the backpack.
Love mine, bought one for my girlfriend as well and she loves hers.. pump it up to 2.0psi despite what the manual says, my gf learned the hard way
One of the skegs broke the first time out. The kayak was pretty heavy for me. It is very sturdy on the water. I returned it on the way back from the beach, mainly because it took me too long to blow up and put the skegs on. .
