Perfect for snowshoe backpacking/camping!
This shovel is the GOAT. Purchased this primarily as a pack shovel for winter snowshoe and backcountry ski packing treks. It comes with high ratings as an avy shovel, but for me, my winter pack is heavy, so it was important to have a shovel that was as light as possible while being durable and functional as a snow camp shovel. On a recent snowshoe pack trip, the shovel was a critical tool in cutting and shaping a tent pad into a snowy 15-degree incline (about 5-6' deep snow). It didn't disappoint. the collapsible format made it easy to attach to the outside of my pack, and the low impact on weight was a saving grace. Inspection of the shovel upon my return indicated absolutely no deformation and the powder coat paint looked good as new. Worth every single penny. Thanks BD!
Perfect lightweight addition to the quiver!
First of all, I must admit that my choice for a robust "work" shovel is definitely the BD Eval 7. Hands down the Eval 7 is a winner for guiding, especially for those days when building and repairing helicopter landings is on the schedule. Having said that, what about those days when weight is a concern, like ice climbing, touring in lower risk terrain and the like? I feel naked without a shovel in the winter in the mountains. The Transfer LT is the perfect choice for light but still functional. As the lightest UIAA certified shovel currently on the market it is reassuring to know that the LT meets the standard as well as being a BD product. I have more than one pair of skis for when conditions change and now I have a choice of shovels depending upon my daily use case. Now there shouldn't be a reason to head into the winter backcountry without a decent shovel. (And, don't forget your transceiver and probe when in avalanche country!)
Very LT
Lightweight for sure. Not my choice at all for digging shelters or kickers, but great at saving weight for long tours. I was skeptical at first regarding durability, but after my friends managed to NOT destroy theirs I decided to buy one for myself. Green color is mwah!
Light hardworking shovel
Best of both worlds with this shovel. No performance is lost for the grams you save having this in your back. Assembly is quick and easy. This shovel is great for anything you need it for, and as a ski patroller that can be a lot of anything on a given day.
Best shovel on the market for recreational backcountry skiers/boarders
This shovel is amazingly light, yet doesn't seem to compromise on durability or function. I just took it to a companion rescue course and it was super quick to deploy and cut through the crud just as well as a bigger shovel.
Light Weight and fits perfect
This is my lightest shovel. Very strong and sharp. However; I wont be using this to get my truck unstuck. Lesson learned. Keep a full size shovel in the truck. This shovel fits in my heli- pack front pocket perfect.
Superlight
I seriously can’t tell the difference in weight when it’s in my pack vs. when it’s not. I cannot believe how light it is. I have only used it for light duty work so far. But it seems well built, and strong.
Dreamy light weight
A fantastic addition for the weight conscious backpack. I was hesitant to replace my current Black Diamond avy shovel, but this one was well worth the upgrade. Light weight and excellent funcional design.
Transfer LT
Can't believe how light this is! Awesome it can be used with the Venom LT, which is why I purchased it. Waiting to use it, but form and function looks good, 4 stars since it hasn't been used yet.
light!!!!
This shovel is soo light. I wanted it for long ski mountaineering days. I have been happy with it in a practice digging session, and have been even happier that I do not notice it in my pack.
