Overall I like these pants. They are comfortable and somewhat heavier/warmer than a regular pair of jeans, which is exactly why I bought them. However, the button fell off within the first week of wear. That should not happen on a pair of jeans that costs this much.
I was looking forward to these pants as a cold weather option. I like the fit, and the feel, but for the life of me I can't figure out the side zip pocket. Ordinarily, this would be the place you put a phone. And I guess BD was thinking I'd be wearing a harness with these jeans (correct, about 50% of the time). But, when I put a phone, or anything in the side zip pocket, it immediately falls onto the knee. Any movement (like walking) results in a constant rubbing of whatever is in the pocket on to the knee. Very uncomfortable, to say the least. If the pocket was half the size, the phone (or whatever) would end up mid-thigh, which makes more sense. But this was a total miss.
The button already popped off. For such expensive jeans you’d think that they wouldn’t put such a flimsy button.
I have worn these pants a lot since I bought them, and I REALLY like them. I have a problem with the pockets though. First, the zipper pocket on the right leg seems almost useless to me as it runs over the knee and almost anything that I put in that pocket rides at the knee, read: uncomfortable when bending knee. Second, for the main front pockets, my phone seems to always sit at a diagonal and I need to readjust when I sit down, I think a slightly longer pocket would have been the solution here.
Good fit feels sturdy fabric, and stretches well but is still a "Black Diamond fit" for the super skinny long peeps. It can feel too tight at times. But the important part here: POCKETS. The two main hand pockets are quite small. And the side pocket on the leg is a great idea, poor execution... is too big that if you put your phone there falls to the knee... and kind of on the way.
After wearing these pants for a few months my thoughts are that they have front pockets for children 6 or under and that they fit a size smaller in the waist than other BD pants. The pockets are so small anything you put in them will stay very high and pinch as you bend your legs. Sizing up is easy, but I would not buy another pair unless the kids pockets got fixed.
They fit true to size and have a decent amount of flex for climbing in cold weather. They really are water proof, in rain my legs stayed completely dry even while sitting on damp rocks. The side pocket looks a little goofy but is very functional. If I had to change one thing I'd say to make the side pocket not go further down on the inside.
These pants can take a punch. They are very durable. My only complaint was the button came off in the wash. With one quick little sow I was able to repair them, but still not what you’d hope for from a brand new pair of pants.
They were labeled slim but fit very baggy. Thought they were going to be warm “wool” but they were no different than cotton jeans. I had to send them back.
My new work pant! I can teach a class, hike the dog, split wood, and slack line in the front yard, do all pair of pants!
