Cheaped out construction/lame design
I’ve had many pairs of the Manawan I. I wanted another but found it had been redesigned. This new design sucks. There is no longer slits in the front or back so you have to smash/stretch the fabric to get your foot in. Also, it now requires you use a hand to pull it up over your heal. So lame. Not only that but the insole is of such crap QC that the sides are bent up in the pair I received so it feels like I’m walking around on a piece of rubber on the left side. Who designed these? Did you really stand around the prototype table thinking “wow, we really have a winner here”. Or was the goal purely lowering cost but charging the consumer more? I don’t get it.
Hard to put on, uncomfortable without socks
If you plan to wear these without socks, you know, like slippers, then I hope you have a shoe horn. These are EXTREMELY hard to put on, since there is no pull tab. They fit perfectly once they are on, though. They're also very uncomfortable without socks for a couple of reasons. First, the Sorel label under the heel feels very weird compared to the fleece lined insole around it. But far worse than that, the edges of the insole are hard and sharp, and not covered by fleece. That alone makes it completely unwearable without socks. It feels like there is a plastic butterknife grating against your foot. Since it is molded, the edges aren't just flat, but turned upwards, directly towards you foot.
Not very durable
Purchased as a Christmas gift and worn only occasionally, the rubber sole where it is sewn to the upper has already torn through. None of the other features matter much if the item doesn’t last a month.
Almost perfect.
Great style and fit. Warm and comfortable. I normally wear 42/9E dress shoes, and 9.5-10 sneakers depending on brand, the 9's fit just fine for mw. Bought them a year ago in a ski shop in Steamboat, CO. Just wish the internal shearing was real fur and not synthetic. Not as breathable as had hoped. Used to have 100% sheepskin and shearling - when your feet got hot and sweat, there was no smell. Doesn't matter how much you wash your feet or care for them, when your feet get hot in these, the synthetic materials don't smell great. If these were 100% sheepskin/shearling, it would easily be 5 stars.
Awesome slipper
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My first Sorel slippers and I love them. They are very comfortable and light weight. I haven't had them for long so I'm not sure the durability but they appear to be pretty durable. I got these and the slide on pair and they're both super comfortable and light. I always wear them with socks, and always wear something on my feet in my house and these are great. They can be a little warm at times but then you can just slide them off for a bit. I also work from home so wear them pretty much all day. And have worn them out a few times too. Very comfortable and highly recommend them.
Fall Apart
Rubber sole started peeling off within days of wearing them indoors around the house.
Step down from previous Manawan slippers
I am disappointed with my recent purchase of the Manawan II slippers. I have been wearing Manawan slippers for over a decade and have enjoyed the quality and fit. The Manawan II slippers are narrower in the ball of the foot and toe area reducing the comfort. Additionally, the profile around the ankle has been changed making it less comfortable and more difficult to slide on. Lastly, the material inside the slipper has been degraded. Poor decisions by the manufacturer of the slipper. I will seek another brand in the future.
Rubber sole turns to gummy mush
After only wearing these shoes in the house, the sole of these slippers turned sticky almost overnight. I contacted customer service who said that they have heard of this from other customers. Since I was out of the one year warranty window, they said sorry that they could not be of any help. They suggested washing it, putting on baking powder, but those things only made the oozing stickiness of the sole worse. The residue from the deteriorating rubber is super sticky and doesn't even wash off my hands with soap. I googled and it's the rubber molecularly deteriorating. It's really disappointing when a company doesn't stand behind their product and a known defect
Older maybe better
This is a great cool weather slipper. Works well for taking the dog out rain or shine or even snow. Comfortable foot bed. I have a pair from 2017 that are still going but thought I'd get a fresh pair now that the rubberized soles are starting to give out. What I love most about my existing pair was the easy slip on due to the V at the top of the entry. This new pair does not have that, but instead a closed top, so you can't just easily slip in without using your hands.
Too snug.
After a decade or more of buying the same slipper, my wife was only able, after searching everywhere, to purchase the Manawan. Love the color. It’s a great slipper, except for one design flaw...there is no “one inch notch” at the top of the seam that travels from the toes to the top of the ankle, as in all my previous slippers. The manawan has sewed the seam all the way up, thus eliminating the “notch”, which makes it more difficult to put on and take off, because it is a tighter fit. I’ve worn Sorel slippers for decades, indoors and outside, and the “notch” style is tight enough without sewing the notch shut.
