Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.
SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.
TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

New design, poor fit compared to previous version
I tried the blue pair on in the store because I love the black pair o bought two years ago, and I wanted to make sure the new design fits the same as the older version. Unfortunately, it doesn’t. I wear mediums comfortably in the older pair - they’re slim fitting but not restrictive. Mediums in the new design were as tight as long underwear. The larges on the other hand, had 4-6” inches to spare in the waist and baggy, drooping thighs. It’s way too big of a jump between the sizes, and sadly, neither fit well enough to buy.
Did not hold up well
I purchased this for my husband in 2021. They were comfortable but thinner than those he previously owned. When he took them out to wear this fall, I noticed that had pilled badly and were already wearing thin in places. He wears around the house, not in hard outdoor activities.
Nice pants but they have problems
Overall, these fleece pants come pretty close to what I wanted, which was mainly a cool-weather pant for walking my dog in the frosty Colorado mornings as we move into winter. They are comfortable and soft, and I like the zippers on the pockets. These help to make sure phone, car keys and whatever else I need to take with me stay secure. I am 6' tall, 32” waste/34" inseam, and was surprised the Medium size fit me so well. The "tall" version of the product was actually too long. The pants keep me warm in the cold, are mostly comfortable, and work great for 2-4 mile walks. Where these pants fall short is in two ways. First, the super-thin elastic drawcord string in the waistband is totally insufficient for providing enough tension to keep the pants feeling secure. Though they haven't fallen down on me yet, they don't feel confidently secure. I was uncertain when I bought the pants that this would work, but hoped I might be wrong. It turns out I was not. This drawcord is just too thin. It should have been thicker and perhaps not even elastic. The tiny little spring-loaded tension device is also undersized. I looked at replacing it today with something better, but then realized that there are little metal grommets that prevent you from inserting a thicker drawcord. So there is no way to fix this problem. Unfortunately, I bought the pants long enough ago and have worn them enough that I don't think I can return them. But I will never buy a pant that has this kind of drawcord again even if all the other features are great. It is due to this drawstring that I am writing this review, because this is such a bad feature of these pants. I suspect I will break the drawcord soon. Second, the model these pants were built for must have had really skinny legs. For me, the pants are borderline too tight in the calves. They fit me almost more like running tights. If you have muscular legs or well developed calves, they probably won't fit you. Never buy pants without trying them on. These pants sound great on paper, but they have two major failings, which means I can only rate them with 3 stars. I would not recommend them because of the drawcord.
Key Part of My Layering
I used these on a 9-day Kilimanjaro hike. I was surprised at how cold it got and so wore these almost every day and definitely at night. They provided plenty of warmth. To summit I used a base layer, these pants, hiking pants and rain pants and I was fine with the temps hitting -14 F. Great material and construction, no issues at all with these pants.
Cozy, restrictive, inferior to Women's version
I was looking for some pure-fleece (ideally Polartec) sweatpants as I've never had a nicer pair for winter. I settled on these, sort of. I tried on Men's medium and large as I have a 32 waist. Large was huge everywhere. Medium was perfect knee down, but baselayer tight knee to waist. I went home with the medium, wore them for a few hours, decided they were way too tight and restrictive. Went back to REI the next day about to return them, then saw the Women's version and thought I'd try a large as the size chart says sizes 12-14 roughly fit 32-34 in mens. It fit perfectly. Somewhere between a Men's medium and large, and WAY less restrictive somehow initially. After more inspecting, I noticed that the crotch on the Women's version is different, and much better. It has a smaller diamond gusset vs the Men's double-stiched super long rectangular gusset running down the upper leg. Men's has at least twice the amount of crotch stiching, which explains why they've got way less range of motion than the Women's. So if you're in between sizes in Men's or don't like the lack of mobility, try one size up in Women's. Huge difference. REI, use a diamond gusset in this version too (the rectangle kills the fit). And add a tiny more room in the waist/hips, at least in a size medium. Knee down is good. Also, the waist toggle closure sucks. It doesn't have enough holding power to actually do anything. The cord slips too easily. I don't know what you were thinking with using this. Just use a tried and true drawstring! Way more secure and allows for infinitely more adjustment. And the pockets are way too shallow. I don't know why they have to be sewn all around into the fleece itself. I've already had things fall out on both sides, so I have to keep them zippered at all times when somethings in them. Just use loose pocket bags like any other sweatpant. Overall these are close to great. Minor tweaks would go a LONG way with these. Maybe I'll actually buy the Men's version when you revise these again.
Fantastic! The best!
Warm, comfortable, ergonomic, look great. Better than any other. I had the 1.0 version, and then the 2.0. The second version's waist adjustment mechanism is outside making them more comfortable, and also the pockets are better suited to wear the pants under another pair. Just perfect! The message says they are discontinued? That's so unfortunate. The very size I need os out of stock. Just as I wanted to buy like 5 more of them for years to come. Why would you discontinue such a successful item? The other ones I see I don't like that much, these were perfect! I hope you bring them back!
Great. Just don't put anything in the pockets.
Very comfy and warm. However if you put anything in the pockets, the pants will slowly descend to your knees. The drawstring seems incapable of holding anything up. Also, the sizing seems to run a little large.
Updates aren't good
The current/new version of these pants is inferior to the version sold several years ago. The new version is sized larger. It also has an exterior-opening drawstring that gets in the way and looks dumb (the older version had an interior string). The extra stitching on the front is pointless. Finally the new material is lighter (albeit softer) than the older version. In short: a disappointment
Excellent pants!
The only problem I have with these is that they’re too comfortable and too easy to wear at home and out and about. I throw on a fleece sweater on top and rock a look I’ve coined “ Fleece on fleece,” or, in a French accent, “ Flison-flise.” They fit super well and look great!
Pretty comfy; just what I need for winter canoeing
I erred and ordered a size up, so they are a touch big. But I think they will work out fine in the end. Purchased to wear over base layer in a dry suit for winter canoeing . Very comfortable right out of the package; I may order an additional pair for around house/town. Only complaint is the ineffective closure at the waist; just doesn't hold at all.
