Great for kids (not small adults)

Just took this on a 3 day car camping trip. My 4 year old slept in it - it's definitely soft, comfortable, and warm. I'm not clear on how I switched sleeping bags with my kid in the middle of the night, but somehow it happened and I can confirm that this is really too small for a 5'3 mom!

NOT for backpacking!!

It says right on the stuff sack that this is a "backpacking" sleeping bag, but WHAT. A. JOKE. This thing is massive!! It's bigger than the entire inside space of my 50L backpacking pack, so there's absolutely no way it could fit in there with your other essential gear. Even if you buy a separate compression stuff sack (which it does not come with), it won't pack down much smaller. It also weighs twice as much as my adult-sized sleeping bag. It may be perfectly fine for car camping, sleepovers, etc. but to advertise this as a backpacking bag is just ludicrous. If you have other intended purposes for it, go for it, but for backpacking spend a little more for a Big Agnes or a Marmot kids' bag.

Good for Car Camping:)

We’ve had 2 of these for several years, but I figured I needed to review them after they impressed me on our last camping trip. We took them up into the Gila National Forest to camp in mid-April. The lows got into the mid 20s and my kids (6 and 9) were warm in their base layer, plus hats, socks and a throw fleece blanket inside the sleeping bag with them. We had them on our camping air mattresses, with an RValue of probably 5.5-6, which was also important. But now I know they really can get down to 25 degrees and keep my kiddos comfy with proper layering:)

It's great. But it can be a little big.

For the price, it can't go wrong. Our almost-3-year-old used this bag in 40 degrees (F) night with Sea to Summit air pad. She wore thick sweatpants, innerwear (top), and a thick hoodie. She said it was too hot at one point in the middle of the night and had to take her arms out (which she took back in very soon as it cooled her down). The carrying sack is attached to the bottom of the sleeping bag so that you can adjust the length of the sleeping bag, making it easier for small kids to heat up the inside of the bag. And as mentioned by other people, yes it is quite bulky. We use 'REI Co-op Down Time 25 Down Sleeping Bag', and it's bulkier than ours. I would eventually buy a compression sack to make it less bulky. Considering the price though, it's worth the investment.

My Son Loved It

My son is 8, about 70 lbs, pretty lanky, and loved it. We recently went camping with the night temperature at 35F. He went to sleep with a hat and a long set of PJ’s on. IN the morning, the hat and his PJ top were laying in the tent because he was too hot. I would say that it did the job.

Zipper does not stay zipped

Would be a great bag for the kiddo, if the zipper would stay zipped. Every time the kid turns, it comes undone, resulting in a cold kid who gets little sleep. If they had just used YKK zippers, this thing would be great, but in cutting corners on the components of a kids product, they have rendered the product useless.

Sorry to hear of the poor experience you've had with this bag, Alina. This is not the typical experience we hear from our members. Zipping the zipper all the way up and folding over the hook-and-loop tab to secure should keep that zipper firmly in place.

Kid loved it.

I bought this for a trip up to Allenspark Co as it was expected to be 40°F or so at night (and the kid needs a sleeping bag that is better suited for these temps) so I got the red one. The kid loved the color, especially that the inside had a pattern, and said was very comfortable when they woke up!

Really mad I wasted money on these

I'm really disappointed I wasted money on 2 of these bags for my kids. They were good at first but after washing on delicate and following instructions, all the little synthetic fibers are coming out of the fabric all over the bag. What a mess. I've never had this happen before to any of my sleeping bags. REI won't take them back because its just over a year...

Solid for Camping - Too Bulky for Backpacking

This is a nice sleeping bag if you're taking it to a campsite but as another reviewer mentioned it is definitely not a great backpacking bag. It takes up almost the entirety of my sons 30L bag even when it's shoved in to a compression sack and it's as heavy as my beefy long sleeping bag. Other than the size and weight it's a nice bag; the materials have stayed in good condition through lots of use and my son loves using it.

Great kid bag

The kids 7-10yr old fit well in the bag- I love that the bag to roll it up stays connected to the bag and actually fits the bag back In the bag- kids mostly used in house on the floor and couch- the kids say they are cozy
