Perfect for its intended use!

I feel like I need to post this review as a counter to another reviewer. The plastic gear selector is just that, a gear selector. There is no force transferred through the plastic. It doesn't feel cheap or under engineered. It's made in Taiwan, but so are the Leatherman bits, and they've served me well for years of near daily use. I believe the video that the other review is referring to is an example of someone trying to test the torque failure rate using a 1/2" breaker bar attached to a torque meter and then an extension. The failure point was the metal itself. I saw another reviewer use a smaller torque wrench where damage started occurring around 20 ft. lbs. and the metal tab shearing off around 30 ft. lbs. For its intended use as a bit extension with a ratcheting action, it's perfect. It's lightweight, has around 45 or so teeth, and can handle anything you'd expect a multi-tool to perform. It accepts the Leatherman bits as well as common 1/4" bits, retained with a magnet. I've been using it constantly for repair work the past week, and it's been a time saver.

A Leatherman PLASTIC Ratchet Driver

Leatherman used to mean quality Made in the USA with a exceptional warranty. This product however falls short. The Ratchet is made overseas and only comes With a 2 year warranty, which considering the ratchet has a plastic shell, you might Be out of luck when chemicals or time cause the plastic to become brittle and fail. Leatherman does not specify the Max Torque for this tool adapter but looking on YouTube you can see the plastic ratchet exploid in pieces before even registering on the Torque indicator. There is also a lot of twisting wobble even before the gears engage. I have waited a long time for this tool, but I will wait a little longer for version 2.0 because this tool is not built to last like other Leatherman Products. Returned, unable to reccomend.

Highly Functional and Recommended

Anyone who puts a bad review has not used this tool. It works extremely well and makes my charge a screw driving machine. It fits great in the smaller side pocket on the standard charge sheath. The ratchet mechanisms teeth are metal on metal with a plastic selector so I don’t see that being a weak point. Only time will tell if it will hold up to abuse but so far it’s definitely a winner that works very well. Maybe stay away if you want it to look good next to your Rolex and yacht because it’s too sloppy for you to even attempt using prior to reviewing.

About Time

Very handy Leatherman adjunct if you use your bits often ( and I do). Turns most Leatherman tools into efficient screwdrivers with smooth ratchet action on the back rotation, allowing one to do the job faster and more ergonomically in tight spaces even. Additionally though, the head also accepts ALL 1/4" hex bits making it a universal adapter between Leatherman tools and all commercially available bits. Note this includes drill bits with hex ends. It is light weight but sturdy, and holsters nicely into my elastic pen sleeve. It is essentially an improved Bit Driver.

Room to improve, but still a good value

A number of other reviewers claimed that the item was plastic. Let's be clear--it has one plastic component-the black cylinder that is used to adjust the ratchet system. There may or may not be internal plastic parts that I cannot see. I would prefer that component to be metal, but I have no concerns about basic durability of the tool. It works well, fits my Signal nicely, and is compatable with my Leatherman Bit Kit, standard hex bits, and even hex drill bits. I'm pleased with it.

Must-buy accessory from Leatherman.

Great Leatherman accessory (bought several for my Surge and Wave+ multi-tools). My Leatherman bit extensions work well, but this accessory will provide further abilities for my heavy-duty multi-tools

Great accessory!

This little ratchet greatly expands the versatility of my Leatherman charge+. I keep the Leatherman on a lanyard and use the belt pouch for the extra bits and the ratchet.

Good Accessory for Leatherman Multi- tool

The driver/ratchet appears to be of good quality. I like the fact that it will accept quarter inch screw driver bits. I do think it will handle the tasks that the multi tool I use it with is designed to perform. It’s a little too soon to do a thorough review since I just got this item.
