Great camping dessert
Serves for two. Shared dessert with a boyfriend who has a dietary restriction due to Celiac. I am glad that this is Gluten-free. It is quite yummy. I like the roasted almonds and marshmallow bits. I only warn you that it calls for 1 cup of cold water. We didn't have a measuring cup, so I eyeballed it. It is difficult to stir thoroughly and blend without making a mess. Even though we massage the bag. I thought I put too much water in it, the package looked very expanded and packed. However, we kept finding dry pockets as we dug in. Then we add a little more water, then wait 5 more minutes to absorb. It's quite filling.
Delicious dessert option
Fortunately, it's difficult to mess up pudding. This "Rocky Road" chocolate pudding is prepared with just one cup of cold water, and it produces a voluminous and extremely thick, quite rich chocolate dessert with dehydrated marshmallow pieces and slivers of almonds. It's rich enough that most people may want to split it into thirds, and it's thick enough that you may want to add a touch more water, to thin it out. If you like chocolate and have a sweet tooth, I highly recommend it.
Easy & tasty
I was pleasantly surprised by this pudding. Love that it only needs cold water: no need to use up fuel to heat water for dessert. This rehydrated nicely and had a good chocolate taste. The marshmallows stayed kind of crunchy. I'm not sure they were necessary, but they also weren't unpleasant. I'll take this camping again.
Excellent for repairing flat tires on the trail
This was the weirdest attempt by any trail food company to make a dessert. It turned out strangely rubbery - like you could throw it on a wall - it would stick, and roll down the wall and stay intact. It might be good for repairing flats on a mountain bike, or a as a bait for catfish.
Nice and easy
Wife and I like to have a few backpack meals when we camp just in case we can’t make a fire or conditions make cooking a bit sketchy. I was a bit wary but I found this to be a nice desert option. Cold water only, it takes just a few minutes to rest and it turns into a perfectly passable pudding. We will certainly pickup another.
Not great but not bad
Flavor and texture are kinda lacking. Normally I like less-sweet desserts, but this left me wanting a little more sugar. Maybe because it is a cold dessert instead of a hot one?
YUM
Passed it around at the bottom of Grand Canyon, everyone was surprised at how good it was. Definitely buying over and over
1st try, wasn't bad.
My whole life is basically 2 things: not reading/ignoring directions, (trying to improve stuff immediately) and complete overkill. So, keeping that in mind, I used warm. water from the 2nd pass from a tea bag. Just because it was there. And old houses, I get very cold water in am. It gets and stays warmer as the day goes on. It ended up being more hot chocolatey. My "fault" but not really a downside. I added Laird's superfood creamer to add a bit more flavor. I tend to like sugar. And it added some thickness, too. 2 things. I wish there was more around for single servings. And I'd like biodegradable or at least recyable bags. I do have bio plastic spoons. They'd be waterproof. I opened it where the slot is and kind of got powder on the table. I'll know next time to shake it down first. The zip seal stayed intact, and I have VERY expensive dog food bags where the zip ALWAYS fails. I wish there were a way to keep the almonds separate or in a different shape, namely because being a Chicagoan and former white rat owner, small, oval shapes sorta weird me out. You honestly wouldn't know, right? And they LOVE marshmallows/sugar. They're also extremely resourceful. That's just me, though. Maybe use the rounder shape over slivers? I plan to try it again and bother to read instructions more closely (I'm Italian, they're kinda known for not reading them, lol)
A surprisingly delicious treat
This was a surprisingly delicious treat! It wasn't excessively sweet and definitely hit the spot! It's A LOT of food, plenty for two people to share!
Delicious and great way to get extra calories
I love these, I've made them both hot and cold. They're super tasty and a great way to get more calories on the trail.
