Long term use: black rubber surfaces turn sticky

This is review of the first model of the Lighthouse Lantern, used 1-2 times a year and otherwise kept in storage in a cool place. Most of the rubber surfaces (not the nobbly button or base) which I see on this new model as well, have turned quite sticky after a decade; it's take a lot of isopropyl alcohol (per customer service) and a lint free cloth to remove the stickiness. A bit disappointing for what should be a lifetime product, but otherwise good. Nice to see the newer models have a warm light compared to the original lanterns cold blue light.

GREAT Light, short charging cable.

Took this lantern out for a 2 day camping trip. I was pleasantly surprised by the light output and how long it lasted on a charge. The first night, I turned it on full brightness and used both sides of the lantern. I quickly realized that I really only needed about half the brightness and that using only one side of the lantern was enough for our camp site. I was able to get 2 nights of light out of it this way and still had 50% battery life left. This lantern works great and is plenty bright. My only complaint is the charging cable that is attached to it. It’s simply too short and I wish it were longer.

really thoughtful lantern

A thoughtfully-designed lantern/powerbank. Plusses: + it’s extremely bright, if you need that, but the dimmer works well + the “front-half-only” mode is useful when you don’t need to illuminate a whole campsite, just a particular task + the light it casts is a pleasantly warm yellow, instead of the harsher blue/daylight tones of other LED lanterns + if you run out of battery, it’s easy to give it a 10-20 minute charge by cranking the handle for a minute or two + works well as a battery bank The only thing that’s a little awkward on it is the short (but handily permanently attached) usb-a charging cable; I understand why it would be so short (it wraps around the lantern unobtrusively) but it sometimes needs a little jenga-ing when used with a usb charger on a longer car camping trip. But still! a really excellent little lantern.

Nice little lantern

The lantern is lightweight, compact, simple to use, gives variable brightness (glow to very bright) and you can use only the front half to save energy. I used it car camping, using at night in the tent and to read, then during the day could plug it into an electric outlet and have it recharged for the evening. Light quality is very good. My only negative so far is that the legs (base) could have a locking mechanism to keep them in place when in use. It also has a hand crank to charge the battery, but I didn't try it.

lit up the whole bathroom!

I live in northern california where PG&E does random power shut-offs to reduce the risk of fire (due due poor power line maintenance and dry fields that catch on fire easily). There have been several days where our house was out of power and I had to bring a candle to the bathroom or else I'd be flying blind. This product makes me feel like I have a little more control over my life again. Thanks Goal Zero!

Cannot recommend. Customer service ghosted me

Bought the Goal Zero lighthouse 400 at REI. Worked at First. Stored in kitchen cabinet for a year and failed to charge after a year when needed during hurricane Beryl. Found a flashlight and batteries more reliable and less expensive. I can charge my cell phone in my car. Got Zero Support from Goal Zero customer service. Guess that’s one of their goals as well.

Great Light!

I have used this so many times in so many situations and can't say enough about how awesome it is. Besides the functions of lighting one side or both, the option to charge my electronics it's plain perfect. I have no qualms about this product, and have noticed a lot of my seasoned camping/backpacking friends own them too!

Natural Light and Durable

We have extensively been using our 2 Lighthouse lanterns now for close to 3 years. We have dropped it so many times due to bumping the pole it was hanging from in our tent. (We now have a secure way to hang it up where it doesnt fall...) Each time, it fell about 5 feet down. One lantern even has a small crack in the plastic but the performance has NOT decreased whatsoever. We are amazed at how they have held up to such hard use! Def worth the money! An extra plus is that it gives off a nice natural light--very cozy and home-like.

Would benefit from ruggedization

This lantern has given me years of excellent light while camping. My only issue is that one night I didn't realize it was going to rain and the lantern was splashed with sandy water. The sand penetrated into the buttons and I had to dig out the emergency flash button as it now sticks if pressed. The lantern survived and still works, however I'd happily buy a new version of the lantern that was highly ruggedized and could better handle being caught in the elements. I would like to see a version that could survive being bashed about in backpacks or dropped regularly. The current version is only safe for car camping in my opinion.
