Excellent jacket - my go-to for most of the winter
Living in the Southeast, we don't have a proper winter with temps rarely dipping below freezing anymore. This is my standard winter outer layer for use around home, as well as on most travel. I've taken it all around the U.S., Europe, and South America. The windstopper fabric blocks the chill that a fleece jacket cannot. It is well-made with durable fabric, zips, and stitching. I've had it almost 10 years and it is just now starting to show some wear around the arm cuffs. I'll be retiring it soon and using it as a back-up, looking for a newer jacket for day-to-day use. This will be a tough benchmark to match.
Best softshell out there!
I managed to be lucky enough to grab the last one in stock! I have been looking for a softshell for a long time, and this is it! It's light weight, completely windproof, and does not add any extra insulation; which makes it perfect for those days too warm for an insulated jacket. I tried on this jacket years ago, and its cut was way too slim for my "medium" build. When I went to a large, the sleeves were too long. Now, the jacket fits perfectly (I'm 5' 8", and weigh approximately 175. If you can find one of these, buy it!
Love the jacket but unusual fit. Had to return it
Sleeves are too long and tight around the chest. I had to return it. I own prAna, Patagonia, Outdoor Research, Mountain Hardware, Kuhl, REI and Vuori products and I fit just fine in Medium and I have no issue with length of the sleeves.
Almost great...
Northface is usually great quality. I really liked this jacket. The wind protection is solid and it fit quite well. However, the right hand pocket wore out with almost daily use in about 2 months. I have had a vest from Northface and other competitive softshells for years with no issues. This lack of durability is a big problem. Northface dropped the ball on this one and I will be returning the jacket.
Classic design, and it's gotten better
This jacket has become a classic. I bought it to replace an earlier model I lost. Happy to see improved wind breaking in this model. Moisture beads up on it. So, it keeps working in heavy fog or light fog.
Solid buy
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Pretty solid purchase. I'm 6'4" and 205 and a large fit me well. I wore this out in a Rainy/cold Wisconsin fall day, with the wind and was pretty comfy. Definitely a solid purchase.
Chest, waist, etc fine (large).Sleeves too tight
Well-sewn jacket. Nice material. Very windproof. Sleeves are too long, and too narrow/tight. I can get one thin base layer underneath this jacket, but that's all.
Good fit but!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It was a good fit but the color was not as we expected. returned it even if returns are so hard to make for NF
Tough as Nails.
Rugged tough jacket is as stated. Warm and windproof as advertised. Replaced my North Face Fleece Jacket.
