Better Than My Home Pillow
As I've gotten into my 40's a good nights sleep is not as easy to come by outdoors. I decided to give this HEST pillow a try. One word: Amazing! I am seriously considering replacing the pillows that I use at home...it's THAT GOOD! Very soft, yet very supportive. Highly Recommended.
Perfect pillow
I use this pillow everywhere I go whether it’s a hotel or back country. You won’t find a more comfy pillow for travel or camping. Yes it’s a little heavy but worth it. I’ve tried many other brands like Exped, Thermarest and Nemo but you’re either having to use air or cheap foam. Hest offers a firm foam material that is not chunky or too soft. If you’re a size sleeper this is the one. The medium size (travel) is perfect for car camping or hotels and the small (camp) pillow is just right for backpacking. Again it’s big for a pillow (even zipped up) but worth it for me. The large size was disappointing since it does not offer the same amount of foam filling versus the smaller options. I was not impressed with it.
See what hype is about
I was not too stoked about the price for this pillow but know that Hest items are rather expensive. But the quality is definitely there. The foam is so dense and contours to your head. I can see why other reviewers want to use this pillow at home too. My partner said they didn’t want me to get one for them, then after trying it out they tried to continually steal mine during camping trips. So I just got a second one so we don’t have to fight over one. Folding it up can be slightly confusing and I accidentally removed the cover rather than folding up because I wasn’t really paying close attention to what zippers I was using. Oops.
This pillow is ‘almost’ perfect for me.
Pillow size: Medium. This pillow is almost perfect for me. First of all, I am a side sleeper who is 5’ & 100lbs. What I use as a pillow and what I sleep on really makes a difference on how I’ll feel when I wake up in the morning. If my neck hurts? I know something is wrong. So first here are some PROS: 1) This pillow feels great, material and temperature wise. It’s stretchy, not too hot, not too cold, but has a cool feel to it. The pillows temperature has done me well (so far) in 20-30 degree nights & 80ish degree days when I want to nap. 2) The pillow does not slip and slide (at least not for me), when sleeping on an Exped MegaMat Duo 10.. 3) The case is removable, washable & had zero issues after machine drying. 4) The fill itself does not smell, which is definitely a plus when it comes to memory foam and it’s very comfy like a fluffy cloud feel. 5) packing it away cuts the length in half, and keeps any bugs or dust from entering. CONS: 1) the zipper! When opened to use the pillow, the zipper jingles around and is a bit annoying. I try to sleep with the zipper away from me, but sometimes I move around in my sleep. So when that happens, and I end up where the zipper is? It is definitely annoying. @Hest Please fix this so we can tuck the zipper away! 2) Now, as a side sleeper, firmness means everything but here’s the thing, we humans are all built different right? So if it’s not perfect for you? Your neck will more than likely hurt when you wake right? Well.. after taking the case off to wash, I found that yes, you CAN open the bag that holds the foam as well. Which yes you can take some out if needed (which this is a pro for some). BUT for me? I wish they gave the option to add a bit more too. Maybe an extra little bag of foam to add if needed. Basically If it was a tad bit thicker (more filled), I think this would be perfect me. Aside from that? I think it’s very close to perfect. I might just buy a smaller version just to take some of the foam and add it to my medium. OH and size of the Medium, I think is perfect for everyone. I saw the small at the store and that’s definitely too small and is kinda flat? You yourself may actually think that specific size may need more filling. I also saw the Large in store, and though very similar to the medium (fill/thickness wise), that was too big in size. That’s like bringing a regular size pillow from home with you. So I feel that the medium is perfect to camp with, and travel with wherever you go. Overall 8.5/10 and worth it to at least give it a try. If you plan to test it in store? Wait a few mins after opening, so the foam inflates to its original size.
Wow
I guess I’m an outlier but I was pretty disappointed with this pillow. I’m primarily a side sleeper. The arched shaped design of this pillow is great for side sleepers because you can easily get your head on the center “meaty” area of the pillow. The problem is that at its core this is still just a foam filled pillow. It will compress and get firmer as your sleep on it. I woke up several times to shift around & fluff the foam bits to get it comfortable again. For the price, you REALLY have to value the fact that this folds into itself for storage because there are plenty of camping pillows on the market filled with foam-bits for less than $40. The hunt for a good camping pillow continues….
Great pillow with bonus stash pocket.
I grabbed this at a REI Garage Sale for half price and it was still a bit much for me, but I’m convinced now it’s worth full price. Agreed with others that the zipper can be a pain but I just sleep with it towards the top of the pillow and I’m fine. Super comfy, rivals my fav pillow at home, and I love that I was able to remove a bit of the floomph because it was originally a little too floomphy for me. I’m primarily writing the review to add on that because of the fold up design, while in use, it naturally has a very well padded space inside to stash things. I can put my phone and even my Kindle Voyage in there and not even feel it. This is awesome because I got this for hammock camping and I can keep my little necessities right there. It’s also amazing to stash a mini Bluetooth speaker, great for audiobooking. They really should advertise this as a feature! All in all, love the pillow. Definitely not small but a bad pillow will ruin a good trip so I consider it well worth it.
Best travel pillow
Love my Hest pillow! I bring it on all my travels now; road trips, hut trips, AirBnBs and especially camping. It stays clean because of the ability to stuff into itself during travel.
Superb Travel Pillow
I work for an airline and also am used to long road trips having grown up hours from major cities and this pillow is well suited for both travel in the air and in the car. It is shockingly comfortable for what it is and it is wedge-able…definitely a needed yet understated feature of top travel pillows. Add in the fact that it’s easily able to be machine washed and you’ve got yourself a great pillow that makes it to the top of the list for travel pillows. If I could break away from work/family long enough for a good camping trip, I’d probably make this my one luxury item I take with me into the backcountry.
Great product and worth the money
This pillow it amazing! I get hot flashes at night and camping with this pillow is the coolest... Literally! I sometimes just want to use it at home 😁
Perfect car camping pillow!
I have always brought my home pillows when car camping but they take up a lot of valuable space, so looked into getting smaller camping specific pillow and this Hest Pillow is perfect for adults. I say adults because they are pricey and you can get away with smaller, less expensive pillows for the kids. Its not super compact like a Sea to Summit Aeros or a Cocoon air pillows. It was 14.5 x 7 in when packed. You may be able to compress some air out of the memory foam and reduce it to 14.5 x 5 in or more. Its narrow enough that i can place it in the hood of my mummy style sleeping bag and it stays put without being full zipped up. It fluffs up nicely and is super comfy, hands down the most comfortable pillow i have used. Thanks to the REI rep in Boulder who recommended it!
