Good Product at an Affordable Price
We bought these for our Boy Scout troop that was going to do some backcountry cooking. The scouts and adults enjoyed the flavor but one scout thought it was a little too spicy for him and it upset his stomach. If I were backpacking solo or with my son, I'd for sure eat these again as they are more affordable and just as good as Mountain House or other brands form my experience. The serving size was good, as 4 packets fed 8 scouts and adults just fine when it was served with sides everyone was full after a day on the trail.

Pork Jambalaya
AlpineAire Pork Jambalaya, what is wrong with the quality control at Katahdyn? Your meals are nothing but extreme amounts of spice. Where is the meat? Where is the flavor, other than EXTREME AMOUNTS OF SPICE? This is just ridiculous rice slop. I used to really love my AlpineAire meals! Now, I don't even like them! Please get some qualified help in the form of a World renowned Chef to design your meals for you, PLEASE! I do not recommend this meal!

A great tasting dinner.

We were looking for multiple options while on our extended hike and this is one of those meals that made the list. Followed the directions and it came out perfectly. The pork chunks in this were amazing and I couldn't even tell they had been freeze dried. I would buy this meal again in a heartbeat!

Trail Side Treat

Just the right amount of spice to make this meal a trail side treat, setting it apart from most bland dehydrated meals.

My favorite!

This is one of my favorites while hiking or even for those days when I'm stuck at the office for lunch/dinner and don't feel like ordering out for something more expensive and less flavorful! Always my go to, and I try to keep a few extras around for "just in case"!

Seasonings were overpowering

This was another meal I've had in my pantry for about 2 years that I've finally been able to try. Three adults tried this and everything rehydrated well and the texture was good but the seasonings were just way too strong. None of us would buy this one again.

Best Freeze-Dried Meal at REI? Yes!

This may simply be the best tasting meal REI sells. Excellent flavors, texture, spices and packed with protein! No, I will not be sharing this as a 2 person meal. Too good to share! Highly recommend it. This is my new "must have" trail food.

Well worth it!

Really good actually!! Despite this being dehydrated, it was quite flavorful and very filling after a 12 mile backpacking day. Would definitely get it again.
