Solid.
The other reviewer needs to buy himself a sharpener. I ran the blade across a Ken Onion tool sharpener a grand total of 5 times and this blade is shaving my arm hair off. Fit and finish is good, chews through any basic camp task... this one is my car axe forever.
Just buy it
It’s exactly what I wanted. Compact, sharp, high quality - can split wood if needed. It looks like it does in the picture. Read the dimensions before buying, this is not an axe for splitting cords of wood.
great tool with insignificant QC issue
Nice axe at a nice, intermediate/small size. Mine came sharp enough to split soft/medium wood without trouble. Wouldn't have dinged score for a dull edge anyway. The axe head is a bit asymmetrical on mine. There's a significant bevel on the right hand side on the top. Shouldn't affect function. I don't care. But some might take issue with that at the premium REI price point. Probably worth closer to $70.
awesome
It’s a great little axe. Mine came ready to go. Feels well balanced, split small logs beautifully.
quality axe
Very nice axe. I spent about a minute or two sharpening the blade on my bench grinder. Then split a couple of mesquite logs. Axe head is a perfect weight. Will be an essential tool for an upcoming 2 week overlanding trip.
Axe to grind...
I got this as a gift, and like another reviewer, the brand new blade was as dull as a penny's edge, like, less sharp than a butter knife. A store associate was reluctant to accept a return or exchange, claiming they come dull for safety and that I just need to sharpen it myself. Neither makes sense. A new product should be ready to go. Seems like a quality product otherwise, but for nearly $100 it shouldn't be an unfinished DIY project.
appears decent
Upon receiving this item it appears that it could be a decent tool the handle feels well hung the grain orientation is acceptable, how ever the blade came with a rolled edge.
Broken on first use!
We were so excited to present this as a Father's Day gift but super bummed by its performance. Axe handle broke on the first trip out with minimal use.
