Wouldn’t Recommend for Snow
I bought these booties in early fall to start for backpacking trips where my dog would need to walk on granite and my initial impressions were they seemed decent. The wrap is right at the dewclaw so I wish it went a little higher. However the main purpose for these booties was for when the snow came. Unfortunately they do not stay on because the Velcro constantly comes undone. As soon as a bit of moisture touches the Velcro wrap it loosens and the booties just fall off. I’ve tried it four times in the snow this past week and within 5 minutes they’re done. I sized my pup accordingly too, so needless to say for the price I’m very disappointed.
GREAT traction!
While I know dog's don't really need** booties, as a former Meteorologist I found it to be contradictory to tell people to be cautious when walking their fur babies out during the hot summer months while mine was stepping out on the hot asphalt. However, since leaving the industry and moving back to Los Angeles this meant more opportunities to enjoy mother nature and lots of hikes that Florida couldn't really offer. I've had so many recs for boots but I loved these cute booties because Cali is a cocker spaniel and she's always had big puppy paws so the range in sizes was perfect when determining the right ones. With that said, it was tricky getting the right fit but it was worth it! They really have kept her paws protected from broken glass and debris we find that homeless leave around AND have given her phenomenal traction when pouncing and running over slippery rocks when hiking to waterfalls. She waddled at first but eventually has gotten used to them. We usually get questions on these boots from avid hikers to folks at our neighborhood dog park and prefer them over cheap ones from Amazon and petco. I honestly will use these more as we approach the summer months. So worth it and will keeps our baby Cali protected.
Love these booties!
We purchased these booties for our 1.5 year old yellow lab to wear on our boat so he doesn’t tear up our seats. We ordered two sizes - one set for his front paws and one set for the rear. They fit perfectly and we had no issues with them staying on. He was a bit unsure at first, but was distracted enough by being on the water that he left them alone and got used to them. We removed them when he swam!
Almost pawfect
Ankle Straps could go a little snugger and a little higher. They wrapped right at the dew claws. Nothing vet wrap and socks couldn't fix. Otherwise, a real paw-saver. First day of a week long trip, her toepads on all 4 paws got glued together with pine sap, took forever to get out. After that, she wore them for the rest of the trip with no complaint. Terrain was forest, pine cones, loose gravel, hard dirt, sand, hot asphalt and cement. Bonus, she came into the tent with clean feet. The lichen green color and reflective trim made it easy to find when one fell off. At the time, it was just me and her. As a woman I felt surprisingly safer because the booties and her red palisades pack made us VERY VISABLE. Got compliments and looks up and down the trail, 2 different rangers even stopped to check in just because of the get up. Took a week to break in. Reflective trim worked great for night time walks at home. I loved them and most importantly she loved them too.
MOUNTAIN DOG LOVES THEM
It has become easier every time I put Kona's boots on. I have had them for a year and use them for the heat in Arizona. I am the only one walking around with a dog when it's over 100 degrees. They are holding up extremely well. The booties have not fallen off at all. I love these booties.
boots bloody my dog's front feet
boots bloody my dog's front feet when the boot is over or under the dew claw. Very poor design, these should have a warning label. I contacted Roughware and they indicated that they are like new shoes for people, yet I don't recall having bloody feet with new shoes in my entire life.
Outstanding
These are great! I have a 45lb bully mix who LOVES swimming but will wear her toe nails down to the point of bleeding from launching off the cement pool deck into the pool. She wears these when she's swimming and it's perfect. We've also used them to protect a cracked toe nail for her as well as just to protect her feet when it's a hot day and she has to be out on concrete/asphalt for short periods of time. All in all they are really nice, well made, sturdy boots that fit her well.
Sold in pairs of 2.
The review telling me these came in pairs of two was a huge help. I have a 70 pound lab and got 2.75 for his front paws and 2.5 for the back paws. The $80 was worth it because I care enough about my dog, I don’t want him to burn his paws in the Arizona heat. I certainly wouldn’t walk barefoot there either. Perfect fit!
Great Injury Dressing Protection
I got a pair when my McNab had sutures for a pad laceration and needed a dressing cover when we went outdoors during the two weeks of healing. It’s worked perfectly, although he’s a little annoyed. Expensive, yes, but the best option I could find and now a permanent part of my home and trail first aid kit.
Great shoes once everyone gets used to them
These shoes are really substantial. Just what we needed for the rocky sharp trails here in Arizona. Although she does the funny dance when we put them on, our dog seemed less sore than usual after wearing them on our last hike so they seem to be working. A few things: 1. Front feet and back feet are different size! Measure and plan accordingly. I actually ordered both one size too big which was pretty apparent when I held them up to her feet. Downsized each set and they seem good. 2. The tops rubbed her dewclaws which seemed to irritate her, so we use medical cling wrap (vet wrap) around her dewclaws, which act like little socks. No problems now, though it is one more step when we put these on out on the trail. 3. They need to be closed up fairly tight, but they stay on. I was worried about slippage but they stay secure. 4. They do seem to break in, making putting them on easier and they appear more comfortable after a few uses. Or is it just me? Overall, with the use of ample treats, short first outings, and just allowing some time to get used to them, these seem to help our dog’s sensitive paws and allow us to take her on longer hikes. I’m impressed by the grip and sturdiness of them. Like real little hiking boots!
