Nice style but small pockets and thin liner
I am a big Brooks fan. I train/race exclusively in Adrenaline GTS and my favorite running short is a pair I bought a few years ago. When I saw these intrigued by the price and style. Specifically, the inner lining pocket. I was truly disappointed when I opened them up. All of the belt line pockets are pretty small - maybe you can an energy goo. The liner is somewhat flimsy by comparison to others - much thinner. And that liner pocket is barely large enough for a standard phone. I was concerned it would rip putting the phone in. I’m on the fence as to try it out or just return it outright. Perhaps my expectations were too high?
Mixed feelings
The good: very comfortable boxer liner, lightweight fabric, hip pockets run deep actually, I can easily store inside set of keys, gels or small sanitizer bottle. Back zippered pocket holds stack of cards, cash and IDs without troubles. Internal phone pocket adds extra storage. The bad: hip pockets top loop covers just should've been more relaxed. Not exactly fun struggling to pull out contents. Phone internal pocket doesn't really serve the purpose on the run. The ugly: low waist design. Unless pulled up all the way the shorts feel like constantly slipping down. Waist band should've been positioned higher a bit.
Decent shorts, terrible pockets
Comfy lightweight shorts but the pocket situation is horrendous. There are two small pockets on either side for keys but neither is elastic so if you have more than one key they will jangle with every step. The zip pocket in the rear is slightly larger and can hold credit cards but no modern phone can fit there. The spandex pocket on the leg doesn't fit my phone (pixel 3) without ripping some of the seams and there is no hole for a headphones wire to snake through so you can't listen to music with wired headphones. Overall a bizarre choice of pockets for an otherwise decent pair of running shorts.
Pretty good
Good quality and very light weight. I really like the material of both the outer shorts and the inner shorts. My only complaint is what I have see in other reviews. The inner short is too small for the outer short making it difficult to pull them up as high as I’d like. The best way I can describe this is like the outer shorts are a mid rise and the inner shorts are low rise. It’s not a deal breaker, and I can still run in them, but this being corrected would make them more comfortable. I can do about 6 miles and then the restriction of the inner shorts starts to get to me. Still a good product.
Mediocre shorts
These are just ok shorts. I got the medium size and the waistband is a little too loose. I'm a 31 waist. I have to tie them very tight for a comfortable fit. I would prefer some front pockets, but not the end of the world. The brief inner liner is not that comfortable and feels more like a swimsuit mesh liner. I was expecting more of a compression liner feel. back pocket is fine for keeping id, credit card, key, but not a phone. My iPhone 11 regular size with a case fits in ok to the liner pocket, but doesn't feel that secure. I will only use these for treadmill runs and would not recommend.
Great
I had 1 pair of 2-1 shorts like these and wanted to find some more, which ended up not being an easy search. Wouldn’t you know the place that makes the best shoes also makes the best shorts. Very supportive and it’s very convenient that when things shift around down there you can adjust one piece of clothing and keep running. The 7 in models are still cool enough without scaring the neighbors and don’t get too heavy even when sopping wet in the Florida humidity. My only minor comment/complaint is that the drawstrings are a little thin and if you tie them really tight like I do they can be hard to untie. Other than that I am very happy have found these. Brooks, please keep making these shorts!
Mediocre Shorts
To start the liner is not comfortable. It is more a mesh swimsuit type. I was expecting a compression type feel. Back pocket is only good for id, keys, credit cards, but not a phone. My Iphone11 with a case fits ok in the liner pocket but does not feel secure. I will only run on a treadmill with these shorts so I don't have to keep anything in them. Sizing is also too big. I got the medium size. I am a 31 waist, and these were too loose. I have to tie them quite tight for a good fit and still can't get it quite right. Would not recommend these shorts.
Critical design problems with this short
I bought an XL, which is the typical size for me. The waist fits fine as I vary between a 38-40 inch waist. However, the rise on this short does not fit me and I am pretty proportional sized person. I've never had this problem with a running short before, the back sits way too low and the front crotch area is overly tight. I definitely do not recommend considering this running short was 2x the price of better shorts I have bought. Unfortunately, I can not return because I bought them on a roadtrip and the store is much too far away to bother with it.
Good EXCEPT...I'm returning them
Good except the main reason I'm buying another pair of shorts is to have a pocket to hold my phone. Very comfortable, stretchy all around, lightweight, good liner, and true to size; but the phone pocket doesn't work. I was very excited and went on my run this morning, put my phone in the pocket on my thigh and jogged across the street and phone came right out...."did I put it all the way in there?" Tried again, this time on the grass, and within 10 yards, the phone was on the ground again. Did my run with phone in hand :( Returning these ASAP
Disappointed over exterior pocket flaps
I’m so upset over the latest design of the Sherpa shorts that I needed to write a review. The latest design includes flaps over the two exterior pockets. Why these flaps were added is beyond me. Running a marathon is hard enough. Now I have to struggle to pull GU’s and supplements out of my pockets. I’ve actually since gotten scissors and removed the flaps because they’re so annoying. Runners beware. I loved the Sherpa shorts so much I bought a second pair. My first pair, which is a couple years old now, does not include the flaps. I still really like these shorts and will continue to run in them, but am really disappointed over the flaps. Brooks - Please remove these flaps in your next design. Also, please have marathoners test. Thank you in advance.
