Poor quality and even worse customer service
Was a Birkenstock fan. Purchased these boots and loved them for roughly 5-1/2 months...... Then was having foot pain and discovered the sole on the left boot had worn unevenly..... All the way through the lugs... You can see there is a problem with the compound. Both shoemall and Birkenstock said... "Oh well, take them to a shoe repair" not what I would expect from this company and of a boot with that price tag.
Do not buy these =/ Sorry Birkenstock!
I LOVE Birkenstock and the look of these boots and was so excited I bought two pairs (brown and red). I wore each pair for a few days very casually not walking much at all, with hiking socks on, and everything seemed fine. I went on a two mile, flat walk, with hiking socks on, and came back with blisters on the back of both heels. There are seams right on the heels and with a little rubbing, voila! The footbeds are made in Germany and fit fantastic however the boot itself is made in Portugal and it seems the attention to detail isn't there. I would love for Birkenstock to update this boot because every other thing about it was great. Sandals are obviously on point but not sure boots are their thing!
Good but not totally as expected
Boots are well made & high quality. Kind of squeaky until broken in (leather tongue rubbing on boot). I was disappointed, however, because even after break-in they don’t have the great supportive footbed that all my Birkie sandals have. I find I’m putting my 3/4 Birkie insoles inside to get support I need for longer walks. I also had to go up one size from sandal size for adequate toe room.
Will they EVER break in?!
I love Birkenstocks and expected a $220 pair of their boots to at least meet, if not exceed, my expectations. From wearing their sandals, I knew to expect a break in period. But I have owned these boots for a year now. I have worn them to two huge music festivals, taken them on errands with a lot of walking, and on a cold-weather weekend trip. They are still not broken in. I hobble around with limp & painful feet and end up having to improvise on my footwear due to the pain. If all these activities combined won't break in the boots, I have no idea what WILL break them in... I'd hypothetically rate them 2 stars because, aesthetically, they are really pretty! But functionally, they are a solid 1/5 stars. They are totally non-functional as a piece of footwear. And at $220, there is no excuse for such poor performance. So I will not give them the extra star for aesthetics.
I LOVE These Boots!
I'm a Birkenstock believer. After suffering years of heel pain, it was gone when I started wearing Birks sandals. I was very happy to see the same footbeds that I love in my sandals come out in a boot version. They did not disappoint! I live in a climate where sandals are not a good option for much of the year. With these boots I can wear Birkenstock comfort year 'round!
