Picture advertised on REI website is misleading
The coat advertised in the picture is not the same as what is advertised on The North Face website. I received this coat today and there are no buttons, no thum bholes and the fur color is grey-black. The fill is 550. The new upgraded version of this coat is 600 down with buttons and thumb holes. I suggest ordering on the actual NorthFace website
Arctic Parka Design Changes in 2023
I was so excited to receive this NF Arctic Parka in the beautiful Pine Green color and very baffled by the changes NF has made to a previously perfect design, Change 1- They removed inside left side zip pocket. (perfect for not losing keys) and put in a completely open drop in pocket. While the new pocket is deep there is no closure. Change 2- Hood does not appear to have a drawstring or cinch. Previous design had a way to close the hood in around your head which is extremely helpful during very windy days and storms. Change 3- the Fur around the hood has a nice bit of wire that makes the hood feel firm, however without the fur on, the hood brim is tiny, much smaller than in previous years. It’s rainy here (PNW) fur that stops the snow is not great in rain so having a slightly longer or a sturdy brim on the jacket itself is important. Adding it to my NF wish list for this coat again in future. Change 4- The Velcro on the storm flap has been replaced with snaps. Why NF made these choices to their classic all weather parka is baffling. These jackets are still warm & beautiful winter fashion but now, as wet weather winter gear, not quite as functional.
Great for Icelandic weather
It kept me well warm and dry from windy to rainy and cold weather in Iceland 🇮🇸 I really love this jacket
unfortunate long term
I loved this coat. It was my favorite I have ever owned. I bought it at the beginning of the winter season last year. It was warm and held up beautifully. Yesterday I washed it, according to its instructions, as I have done before. When I removed it from the washer the zipper had somehow been obliterated. The teeth were gone and the pull tab had come off. For a coat this expensive I certainly expected the zipper to last longer than 1 season, and since it is just over a year old it cannot be returned. I’m extremely disappointed.
Survived Iceland
I needed a VERY warm outer layer for my trip to Iceland in January. This jacket was great! We hiked in -7 degree weather and my body was perfectly comfortable.
Not FUR me
This coat fit and looks great, kept me warm and was waterproof in light rain. However, the hood unfortunately is a deal-breaker...the fur looks fake and odd, like a wig, lol. I zipped it off, but the hood without the fur does not cover enough (I have an average to small size head) and is quite useless as a hood. So, as much as most of the coat is wonderful, I need to return it as I also need a hood that works. Side note, after zipping off, I put the fur in the box it came from, forgot about it, and had quite a fright when I noticed it in my closet, thinking it was some type of strange, furry animal. :-)

love this coat. warm, comfortable fit. easy to put on and take off. plenty of pockets.
Perfect Winter Parka!
This jacket is lightweight (compared to others that rate so warm) and stylish! I like that the outside material is soft so that it isn't loud when I am walking. The inside is layered down which I like. The faux fur trim around the hood is more bluish-grey than I imagined, but I like it, too! There is an inside breast pocket behind the zipper, and I find it to be in the perfect location (not too high). I also like that the hand pockets have zippers, but also lined lightly with a soft fleece.
warm but large for xs
I love how warm this jacket is but its to large for a small frame (i got xs) especially in the shoulders and the fur was so heavy on the hood I felt like it was choking me when zipped up completely. much better fit without the fur but I couldn't get over the oddly wide square shoulders. would recommend for a large frame

I’ve been searching for a warm, heavy winter coat for YEARS because I’m a freeze baby and the winters can get rough with winds off Lake Erie in northeast Ohio. I’m currently 5 months pregnant and none of my (inadequate) winter coats zipped, so I took a chance and ordered this coat with a little extra room and it is AMAZING! I love the length, I love the warmth, and the hood keeps me cozy. I’ve been venturing outside for walks again in 20’s and 30’s for hughs, which I have not done in a looooong time. Thankful for this warm coat - so worth it!
