Pilled, looks worn out after only 8 months. AVOID
Pilled and looks like cräp after 8 months of casual use. Cheap quality materials. Submitted a request to Kuhl to replace as it was still under warranty. Kuhl refused to honor their warranty. Not buying Kuhl again.
Poor quality for the price. Essentially disposable
This jacket looks nice, and is fairly warm. It does run small, but has a nice fit. It pills severely, and essentially becomes thread bare after washing (cold water, gentle cycle, hang dry). What they were thinking with this product I am not sure. If you can get this used, and plan to put it through some rough conditions I say buy it. Or if you work farming, construction, or as a mechanic and need something to keep you warm, and are going to ruin it then this is for you. I would say skip buying this new due to severe durability issues. I am going to use mine to wear while working on cars that's all it's good for.
Not for outdoorsmen
Thought this would be an awesome work fleece (I’m an arborist). It “pilled up” immediately..... and after 1 week of wearing it at work, it looked 2 years old. I thought it was something that looked professional for speaking with clients while still being high quality and durable for actual work. It’s not durable at all. And once it pills up, every piece of sawdust sticks to it like glue and won’t come out. I do like the chest pockets.... which are a must for keeping a cell phone accessible while wearing a saddle or other gear on your lower half.
Poor Design Change
I wrote a raving positive review of this fleece, and then purchased a second in a different color a few months later. I was so disappointed to see a design change for the worse. The forearms have been redesigned without the contrast stitching and no thumbhole- which is fine as that is superficial- and this new version fits far too tightly in the forearms. Its strange because the rest of the fleece seems to be cut the same. I can comfortably layer a base and mid-layer under the older version for cold weather. With this new one, its uncomfortable to wear a long sleeve under it. I've used it for warmer weather with only a t-shirt underneath.
Lousy material, pills quickly
Love the cut of this jacket but Kuhl has used a fleece that pills badly. I've worn the Interceptr sparingly in an urban environment for almost a year, and it already looks ancient and worn. At this point, I'll wear the jacket around the house or if doing yard work but it's too gross to take anywhere else.
New favorite sweater/fleece jacket
Very satisfied with this jacket. Worn during today’s rain storm it proved warm, wind resistant on its own, and superb as a layer under a rain shell. . The fabric resembles a combination of a tightly woven sweater exterior and a felt-like interior in the arms and the back. Several different fabrics are strategically placed on the arms, sides and back. The front torso has an inner lining for additional wind resistance. The arms fit snug, not a lot of room for layering inside. Torso fits close. Overall impression: Like it was custom tailored for me. I don’t want to take it off. I have a ¼ zip version of their Interceptr, which I save for colder weather outings. This is even more versatile.
Worn elbows-not worth the money
We have purchased 3 full zip Kuhl sweaters. In the past few years they switched from all Merino wool to a blend. The blend has not held up, the elbows look like they are a different fabric, so worn away it looks cheap and tacky. I was reminded of this sweater, sitting on a shelf, at Christmastime and unfortunately missed the window of returning it by a few days. It had been worn about 6 months, before I washed and retired it to a drawer. You'd probably wear it cleaning a garage or painting. Not worth the money, look for a different brand with 100% wool, or if you want a less expensive version, buy a sweatshirt.
Disappointed
I love Kuhl products. This one, not so much. I didn't want to believe some of the reviews and thought I would be extra careful in wearing and washing it. Wore it once on a flight, turned inside out, put it a sweater wash bag, cold hand-washable cycle then air dried. Still pilled like crazy. I understand sweaters can pill but this is excessive after one wash. Not sure if I will return to REI or resign myself to shaving everytime I wear/wash it.
Nice Jacket
I first tried this on at our local REI and decided the small fit me better than my usual medium size. Glad I was able to try it on .. They didn't have the color I wanted so I was able to order it on-line. The medium would have allowed more room for layering underneath but I prefer the fit of the smaller one and will just layer over this if necessary. A little snug but fits better in the arms and length. (5'6'/146 lbs.) I like it! It's warm on it own for our Colorado Fall weather but will will pair it with a down vest or a heavy coat when we cill down. It was a little warm on some recent short hikes but comfortable. :)
Excessive pilling
Excessive pilling since first wears becomes an annoyance for the price of the jacket. It’s comfortable, but looks very bad when it starts pilling.
