Great coat, runs big
I needed to replace a Columbia coat that I had used in the fall and early spring for years. I wanted something that I could wear in 50 to 20-15 degree weather, so not too heavy. This coat is pretty much perfect for what I require and stylish too. I’ve received numerous compliments. My only complaint is that it runs pretty big. I’m 5’11 220 lbs and with clothing generally wear XL. With Columbia outerwear I wear L typically. This coat is L and still fits me quite large. The sleeves are long and about at the limit of fitting me and the body is a little bit longer than I would like. To me, it fits more like an XL. All this being said, overall I’m pleased with the coat.
More than just a shell
I was surprised how much more than a shell jacket this is: the fleece lining fabric is in a kind of cell pattern, not super thick but well bonded to the outer jacket and looks like it will be more durable and less likely to pill than I had expected. The jacket is a little longer in length than other soft shells; and the hood is detachable but doesn't look like it is at first glance (which I don't think is mentioned on the product descritption). It is roomy around the shoulders and chest, and long on the sleeve so we chose a size down from usual and it fits well for someone who is usually finds chest and shoulders tight.
Good winter jacket
Purchased this jacket after reading other reviews and decided that this was the best option to endure the Carolina winters with. Pleasantly enough, the jacket arrived a few days before the 1st winter snow hit us in the Triad area so I was able to test it immediately with single digit weather. The jacket did wonderfully repelling water and was very well insulated keeping me warm with just base layer and a long sleeve shirt on. The hood was a nice feature keeping the snow off my neck. Size wise, the jacket is just a bit undersized with the XXL I ordered. But a solid winter climate jacket all around.
Almost Perfect
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This jacket is made with very nice materials, which is what you can expect from Columbia products. Do not expect to use this jacket as a sole winter jacket for those living in northern states, such as WI. On a particularly cold day, I pair this with a hoodie underneath and am usually warm enough. However, if worn alone as the sole source of warmth, the cold air can really be felt through the arms, as there is less padding there. Of course, less padding throughout means a lighter jacket- which is nice. Overall, this is a great jacket to pair with either a long sleeve shirt or a sweatshirt.
Images are misleading
The jacket is warm as expected but surprisingly heavy for a softshell. I was expecting to be able to adjust the hood from the back and even remove the hood as shown in the pictures for the graphite heather color. Neither of those options exist. So, please beware if that's a dealbreaker for you.
Sizes are way too long.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Material is fine, the fit is way too big. It does make you feel so small. Kind of feels like you are wearing a jacket that you found in a garage sale, rather than a good fit jacket. This is definitely made for tall people.

Good basic winter coat
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I first ordered an xl because that's what my other columbia coat was. It was a little to long in the sleeves and the hood was too big so I ordered a large and it seems to fit better but maybe just a bit tight. Haven't worn it much yet but only possible complaint would be the zipper seems small and cheap. My last coat was done in by a bad zipper. I wish they would put larger and more robust zippers on these coats so I could handle it with my gloves on. All in all I think this will work just fine for Illinois winters. If it gets real bad I'll break out the snowmobile coat.
Okay jacket
This jacket is okay, but has some flaws. First, it does run large in certain areas, but small in others. I am usually a large in most jackets, including my current Columbia fleece, but I tried a large on in a store and it was too big. The sleeves were especially long. So I ended up ordering a medium online (store didn't have the color I wanted or a medium). The medium was a little tight in the shoulders, but the biggest thing I noticed was when I zipped up the jacket, it was too tight at the bottom/waist. And speaking of zippers, as another reviewer stated, the zipper does not belong on this jacket. It is the type of zipper you would find on a cheap, light hoodie, not on an expensive winter jacket. FYI, I am 5'10" and 188 lbs. I ended up returning.
Good for the Start of Winter
I bought this jacket for my boyfriend about a month ago, and he really loves it. I took note of the reviews about sizing, and I bought him a small since he usually wears a medium. The small fits great and he uses it for his bike commutes and for when the weather gets a little colder, and it holds up pretty well. Where we live it gets pretty cold in the winter, and it doesn't protect you too much from the frigid December and January weather as he found out recently. A good coat for the start of winter, but not in the midst of it.
An excellent rain / cold weather jacket
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this jacket more than a month ago and I am very pleased with it, On cold days I wear it with a light fleece interior jacket and it is perfect! I have now been in a few light and heavy rainfalls wear the jacket and it does a great job of shedding rain. The two large side pockets hold both my gloves and a stocking cap with room to spare. The fleece lining is perfect - not too warm and definitely not cold. I have received several positive comments about the jacket and am happy to provide this very positive review.
