Love this product but Africa is destroying it quickly. Didn't realize it came with a pillow top until it hit 110 degrees outside. Needs to be made a bit stronger to survive here. Still recommend it. Just not in Africa! Thermarest please fix this! We don't all hang out in Alaska!
Hi Tom, This is a delamination, which is usually caused by excess dirt or body oil. I've notified our customer service team and they'll be in touch.
Best nights sleep I’ve had camping. Very comfortable pad and felt similar in weight and packability to the basic closed cell pad. Took it winter camping down to -16 and was very warm
It’s just me and my once injured back, but unlike the other thermarest mats I sleep on nightly (I need extreme firmness) this mat was too soft. The claim of reinforced areas didn’t work for me.
This is a great compact pad. It truly does self inflate, takes several minutes but I give it two puffs to full inflation.
Well worth every penny! I have owned several Thermarest sleeping pads over the years and they are the most comfortable and most reliable sleeping pads I've used. I've tried some other brands and ended up tossing them or returning them because they're just not as good. These self-inflating pads are a bit on the heavy side, but I've even taken them while backpacking to ensure a better night's sleep. And Thermarest stands behind their product! If you take care of it and it gives you a problem, Thermarest will take care of you! If you want comfortable sleep, go with Thermarest!
Novice car tent camping I traveled with a 10 dollar air mattress. My first night I had to pump it five times either from a slow leak or changes from air temp. I stopped by Cabela's and picked this up. It was more than I wanted to spend so I kept the Receipt fully expecting to take it back. Wow this pad is so comfortable I didn't want to get up in the morning. Next to my tent, hands down the most impressive piece of camping gear I ever bought. So comfortable. I am glad I got this. Also glad I got the size large I am a small person and it fit perfect in my tent so If you are a big person def get bigger one than the large.
I am a 60-year-old man in excellent physical condition, but require some cushion when I sleep on the ground after a day of backcountry backpacking. I cut back on other items in my backpack to afford the comfort of my Therma rest pad. It never fails and gives me a great night sleep and keep me warm and comfortable. It also rolls down to a nice size that fits in my 65 L backpack just right. I recommend it highly to anyone who wants to sleep good at night out in the backcountry. Happy trails.
I sleep on this every night. It is my mattress of choice. This is not just for camping. I have been sleeping on this for over 20 years every night. I finally replaced my first one a year or so ago because it developed a bulge in it, but as Thermarest is such a great company, they replaced it for me. All I had to do was send some pictures of the mattress so they could see what was happening. I would have to say they stand by their products. I built a bed frame just for this mattress. Sleep number has nothing over Thermarest and I don't have to listen to some motor inflating it. Yes I have other thermarest mattresses that I use for different sleeping and camping etc. times.
I bought this for car camping and have spent the last 2 weeks sleeping on it (while ski touring volcanoes and living out of a car)... I didn't believe it was possible to adore an inflatable mattress this much. The fabric is pleasant to touch and feels very durable. The self-inflation works best if you open the valve and leave it alone for 2 hours, but even when I want to inflate the pad immediately, the comfort is well worth the head rush from blowing it up. And don't get me wrong, it takes a good 5 minutes to wrangle the thing back into its sleeve, but it's kinda become a labor of love that I'm happy to perform.
There is non doubt that the pad is comfortable, once it's inflated. The problem I have is how long it takes to get inflated. I think "Self-Inflating" for this pad is a stretch, either that or I understand that differently. If I open the valve and let it sit, after about 6 minutes it is partially inflated. If I hook up the NeoAir pump, it gets mostly inflated after another 4 minutes or so, then it takes about 10-15 good breaths to get it fully inflated. That's a lot of effort for a sleeping pad, so I'm just not sure if it's worth it or should I send this thing back and get another brand that inflates properly.
