Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements. Some women's pants are available in petite and tall sizes. Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".
PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and ¾ inch shorter in total rise.
TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

My favorite pants! Size down
These have become my favorite pants. For reference, my waist is 26" and my hips are 36". My inseam from crotch to ankle is 28". I'm about 130# and normally wear a size 4. I pretty much never fit into a size 2 in other pants. I originally bought the rust color in store and the smallest size carried was 2, which fit great. While wearing them, they quickly stretch out! Keep this in mind if you're trying them on. They are much more snug at first and after washes, but loosen up a lot when you wear them. I use my rust pair in size 2 for climbing since they're more loose. I need to use the inner drawstring to keep these snug around my waist. I ended up ordering the black color during the Memorial Day sale since size 0 was in stock and I loooove the fit on these. A much more snug, almost skinny jean fit. These 0's fit like a normal size 4 fits on me. These are so comfy, I love the pockets, and they're durable. These are some trail/outdoorsy pants that actually don't look dorky (imo). If the green was brought back, I'd buy them in a heartbeat!!
For all my girls with bigger thighs, size up!
I work in forestry conservation doing fire prevention and needed some good high quality pants that could take a beating but also look cute and be comfy, and these are them! All the pants I would find in the women’s section were so flimsy and thin, which is fine if you wanted to do light walking or if it was super hot but I found my self having to always look in the men’s section to find durable pants ( not just REI but dicks sporting goods, big five, and other outdoor stores. Though REI hands down has way more options that the aforementioned stores) but when I found these and tried them on I fell in love! The fabric is comfortable but also thick and durable, they have functional front and back pockets and they have just the right give in the legs. I usually wear a size 4 but I ended up sizing up to a size 8 so I could have more room in my thighs. The size 8s were big on my waist but guess what, THEY HAVE A DRAW STRING FOR THAT!! that’s right ladies, if you have bigger thighs and a smaller waist you can get a pair that fits your legs and just tighten the waist to your desired fit!!! Absolute GAME CHANGER! no more gaping in the waist and no more tight thighs but fitting waist band. I ended up buying the black and orange and would have gotten the green but they were out of stock sadly. highly recommend!
Good fabric, poor fit
These versatile pants have a great assortment of pockets at the hip for your hands and even a zippered pockets to keep valuable items safe while you are out and about. The fabric is incredibly soft and feels like it would wear well. Unfortunately the fit was way off for me. The rise was very long, which either felt awkward walking, or if I tied them with the drawstring felt like maternity pants that awkwardly bunched around my torso. These pants are headed back to REI to find someone one they fit better. There is also a distracting patch/REI logo on the right back pocket.
Pockets Galore!
I am a huge fan of these pants. The fit is perfect and I am thankful they make them in a "Petite" size. 2% Spandex allows for a fitted waist and enough all around stretch to move. There is also an articulated knee. The zippers at the ankle were long enough for me to take off the pants without having to remove my shoes. The fabric is a woven material that still feels durable, the dirt just brushes off. Also, full length pockets to keep your hands free and your necessities close! I was on the trail with 8 other women and they were all ogling my pockets.
stretches out a LOT
I love everything about these pants, except for that after about 2 hours they go from cute to "I stole my granpa's baggy old work pants". I hover between sizes, the lower size felt uncomfortably snug and the size up felt just right snug. Then they got droopy and baggy and too big around, ending up on my hips instead of my waist. Everything else is so good, the pockets, the color, the fabric feel. I am going to try the sausage pants (lower size) and see if an hour or so of discomfort = pants that I can wear in public after a couple of hours. I will change my recommendation to a friend if the smaller size stretches to fit correctly!
The perfect pants
I have 2 pair - black and army green - and might go for a third with the rust color! These are durable, comfy, light yet covering. No panty lines, no bunching up. I am a curvy bottom, so I can never find pants that both fit my butt and don't gap at the waist, but these are it! They are fairly high-waisted, which helps as well. I wear them to hike, garden, cycle, and they even look cute with a tank top for a night out (back when we all did that). I'm 5'5", ~150 lbs, and the size 8 fits like a glove.
High waist #1 bouldering pants
I hate how women’s outdoor pants usually are low waisted. When bouldering this is not a pretty sight. So I’ve just been wearing leggings because they’re the only thing that are high waisted and comfortable. These pants exceeded my expectations. They’re durable and won’t rip if my knee hits a rock, but they’re also stretchy and non-restrictive. I’m curvy, with a hip to waist ratio that usually leaves gaping. There is no gaping with these pants and if they stretch a bit, the drawstring will help. I’m 5’3” and they’re a bit long but I don’t mind rolling them once. I’m a size 6 in other pants and the 6 is true to size.
PLEASE make tall sizes!!
I tried these pants on in the store recently and have thought about them often since...because they were almost perfect and I wanted so badly to buy them. The only flaw is that they were too short. I'm 5'9", so I'm taller than the average lady but not ridiculously tall, and unfortunately I've had the same issue with almost all REI pants I've tried. It's frustrating that there are petite sizes but not tall...really wish I could get these. With that being said, if you're and average or shorter height these pants are amazing. Super flattering with the high waist, lots of pockets, and really comfortable.
These are amazing. Hiking and styling
Awesome joggers. Love the articulated knees. I am 5'3" and these are a tad long. But since they are joggers, I am fine with that. They do stretch out as you wear them. But not to the point they become uncomfortable. I love that I can wear these to camp hike (fall/winter) in NE Georgia while also wearing them out and about. Just a solid pair of pants. I love how the pockets in the front are deep and everything is actually useful. For reference: I am 5'3" 150 pounds. Bigger lower half (butt, thighs, calf)
I wish the fabric was stronger in the thigh area.
I am currently on my second pair of these. The first pair I had lasted for a couple of years. I bought a second pair because I found them really comfortable for hiking and moving in colder temperatures. I bought a second pair. I wore them twice, washed them, and I'm already seeing pills in the thigh area. Holes in the thigh area were a problem with the first pair, and seeing pills so quickly on the second pair makes me really nervous. These are great pants- they're comfortable for all the activities, but lack of fabric support especially for folks with thicker thighs is pretty disappointing.
