Bought these poles for the first good hike of the year on Mt.Manadnock to replace my older metal shafts but hey i felt like spending a little extra this year. its not the craziest hike but i noticed when i got home both of my bottom plastic clips were broken right off, pretty bad design flaw but a honest to goodness sturdy pole. i weigh 280 about these stood mint, id give them a 5/5 if those clips werent a problem. But i give them a solid 3.5
Bought in May 2019, lightly used and worked great for the first 100 miles, but the cork grips began to crumble. Then around mile 125 this past week one of the tips snapped. The grips are still plenty usable, but the tip is pretty much a nail in the coffin. The worst part is I just started on a longterm hiking trip out of the country, so returning them to the retailer for replacement isn't an option. I honestly loved them at first, too bad they aren't built to last, especially at this price point.
These trekking poles seem great, but the plastic cover on one of the FlickLocks arrived broken. This makes it pretty difficult to open with your fingers as the metal part is rather narrow and a bit sharp.
Very disappointed with them. In my first trip plastic clippers are broken.
Not even sure what year mine are, 2016 or 17. (Two sets). You can’t adjust down the last couple inches on the bottom section because of the tapering, which I don’t consider a flaw. Also, if you choose to carry one or both on your pack I suggest you carry them upside down in case something catches the compression closer and you lose a section or two. I learned that the hard way, but BD replaced the lost section at a very reasonable price. They may not be the lightest they make up for it in durability. Everyone I’ve lent these to have raved about them and some have become converts to using trekking poles. A great product, thanks BD!
I've had my Alpine Corks for 3 years now. Yes, they're durable, lightweight and fit almost anybody. But I didn't know how durable until recently when I repeatedly slammed the plastic tip of one of my Alpine Corks in a car door not knowing it was there. When I inspected the pole and found the plastic tip bent almost 30 degrees off center, I thought I had killed it. However, since I had a steep and rocky climb the next morning I decided to use it anyways. The next morning while going over my gear I discovered that the plastic tip had self-righted almost to dead center. Needless to say, the pole worked fine.
I’ve tried other brands, broke and bent other poles. You cannot beat the Black Diamond flick-locks. Lightweight, great for backcountry hunting and hiking with a heavy pack, especially on declines, and the best trekking pole grip I’ve ever felt. I recommend these poles often. I sometimes leave the tripod at home and rest my binoculars one of these BD poles from a sitting position since the length/height is so quick to adjust.
I have owned these poles for over 5 years now, taking them on tough trips up California’s 14ers and the cascades. Snow shoeing, at skiing, approaches for big rock climbs with heavy haul bags. These are light and durable and if a tip breaks, replace it! I would definitely buy these again and recommend them to all my friends or anyone looking for a good pair of poles
I bought this about a year ago from REI (just posted a review there, too). I bought the women's size. I have the same issues as a couple of other reviewers: I almost lost the lower half of a pole hiking, since the shortest setting doesnt allow the lower clamp to be locked down. Also, after just a few uses, the plastic cover on the clamps broke on 2 of the clamps. I know it's not integral, however, it does keep snow and dirt out, and it feels like poles at this price point shouldn't have parts that crack so easily. I'm considering exchanging these for Leki poles the next time I visit REI.
Hey BD. My beloved Carbon Cork poles have fallen to BCS, otherwise known as Broken Clip Syndrome. I'm departing later this month for my hike on the JMT and was hoping to get these repaired prior to my departure. Other than the seemingly chronic clip issue, you guys have a 5 star product on your hands. Thanks in advance.
