I’m testing these at home and 90% sure I’ll return them. I’m trying to replace my 9 year old Asolo Stynger boots which I love. Unfortunately one of the soles is coming off. These new boots look and feel cheap to me. The heel box is stiff like plastic and pains my ankle. The tongue is not fully connected as with the older boots and on my feet, barely enough lace length to tie up. I’m not a fan of “feminine” color features (purple or teal). Looking at the wear on my old boots I cannot imagine the gray suede sides of these holding up to backcountry wear for many (any?) years. Overall these feel stiff and not up to the task.
I’ve been buying this brand of boot for years now and I’m so happy every time. I hiked 5 miles in them right off the bat and no pain. Then 8 the next day and I’m still good. There was no breaking in period and they are long lasting. I hiked avidly in my last pair for 3 years. They have good ankle support and are sized perfectly. I wear a 7.5 in regular shoes and a 7.5 in these boots too.
I bought these Asolo Finders to replace the Asolo Fissions that I have been buying for many years. I bought these in May and in November, the stitching on the toe covering failed. The soles are gouged as well. I never had a single thing fail on the Fissions and, in fact, typically I wear out the soles. I hike more than 2,000 miles a year, so consider that when reading this review. Maybe these are simply lifestyle boots... I gave two stars vs one because the fit is very, very nice--what I expect from an Asolo boot.
I've loved my asolos in the past, but these I've suffered through some 30 miles of intense pain trying to break them in. The problem is the crease below the toes. Since I see other people are having this problem too, I'm going to chalk it up to a product flaw. Very disappointed.
I had to return my new boots! I was unable to wear them because the breakover point at the toe was pressing into my big toe joint and it was very painful. I have worn Asolos almost exclusively for the last 20 years and this was the first pair that has ever hurt me. So disappointed!
The material of these boots is very flexible along the top/tongue, which means they flex and form a crease along the first row of metal shoelace grommets (nearest the toe) with each step. I took them out for a 3 mile hike this weekend and noticed that the boots pinched my foot at the crease, but wasn't really bothered by it. It wasn't until the next day when I put the boots on for the hike back out that I realized the top of my foot had become tender at the creasing point, and I couldn't walk in the boots without limping when I flexed my foot and the grommets applied pressure. I wound up stuffing the top of each boot with a sock liner to create a barrier, which effectively protected my feet for the hike out. I wanted to love these boots (they were great in every other way!), and maybe my feet would've been fine if I hadn't had to use the boots the next day, but this kind of tenderness won't work for me for extended backpacking, so I'll be returning.
I loved these shoes at first. They kept my feet completely dry in intense rain and they have amazing grip when crossing slippery rocks. However, they are pretty heavy and sturdy boots so my feet ended up hurting terribly even after only a few miles. I need shoes that are more flexible when hiking, and I would only wear these for maybe more mountaineering style treks and for snow travel. I sadly ended up returning for a more flexible shoe.
I love these boots! I never had to break them in. Went right to a 4 hour hike with no blisters or pain. Great traction on rocks and roots. I highly recommend them.
I wanted to love these, but similar to other reviews, something about the lace hooks/rivets or how the toe creases when you step is off. It dug into the top of my foot like the edge of a wood board. I returned them. I love my older Asolos, and will try a different model.
