Gravel Grinder That'll Eat Up The Miles...
I really like this bike. Coming from an "analog" gravel bike I didn't know what I was getting into but this e-bike has exceeded my expectations. I find that it is a very capable (and comfortable) bike on pavement, gravel and single track. I really like the more relaxed (upright) all-road geometry with quick handling characteristics that make it a fun ride too. The range is phenomenal making 50-60 mile rides worry free, with plenty of range left for the next day's ride if I forget to charge it when I get home. A great affordable gravel e-bike option that'll take you (almost) anywhere - highly recommended!
Mountain dirt roads.
I bought this bike when it was on sale. I wanted something to get me up into the mountains without loading my gravel bike onto my car, driving and then ridding. Gets me up the hills into the back country easily. About 1000 miles so far. Longest ride has been 47 miles with 4200 feet of climbing. I am an experienced biker with n+1 bikes. 61 175 lbs. This is fun on mountain roads. Wide tires and lower pressure on the fire roads give a sweet ride if you want. On paved road and mup, you get 17 mph avg over 50 miles. Easy to climb up the roads. Know your route and the elevation and set your power limit accordingly and change it when you need. My cadence has stayed the same but my heart rate has dropped so that is good.Turbo level is great on forest roads to climb. Readout gives you what mileage you may have left with the power level chosen. I haven't run out of battery power yet. I wanted a bike that would get me out of the city and off of city trails, this is it. I ride with clipless pedals too. Easy in and out. This is good for roads, not for me on trails though. I load up my Wahoo Computer with a route and take off. Size Medium.
Best bike I’ve ever had!
I’ve been a pretty avid biker since the mid 80s. I do long distance touring and workout rides with a big smile on my face always. My husband is incredibly athletic and he usually waits for me several times a day. Not with this bike! I can add a little power and keep up easily, never sacrificing my 135 avg heart rate. Gearing is smooth and tires roll better than any bike I’ve ever experienced. I can even ride with no hands!! Truth is, I fell so crazy in love with this bike my husband bought one for himself! Just do it! You will not regret it even if you almost never use the motor.
What a bike!
After years of biking on roads and trails, we decided we were ready for e-bikes. We created a list of 12 criteria. Looked at Specialized (our brand for the last 12 years) and Trek. Nothing appealed except some super expensive models. Then we decided to try REI and discovered Cannondale Synapse Neo ES which met 8 of our 12, including light weight, motor-centered drive, 80 mile-plus range, disc brakes, ability to charge on or off the bike (the missing 4 were minor). Bought 2 Synapses in July and put in about 600 miles. Very happy with them. Over 90% of our riding is in level 1 and the rest in level 2. (Yet to need levels 3 and4.) We are amazed when we see that the full charge in level 1 gives us about 120 miles. Plus, we really like the ability to charge the batteries either on the bikes or off. We once thought that we needed a class 3 to take us 28 mph, but we are finding that class 1 at 20mph is just fine, and we can always go faster on downhills. Speaking of downhills, we discovered that hydraulic disc brakes are fantastic, and work with fingertip pressure. And the wider tires make for a safer ride on bad surfaces. Our primary concern is the security of the bikes. So when we drive to find new trails, we decided we wanted to keep the bikes inside. Of course, we had no car that the new bikes fit, so new bikes led to a new Honda CRV hybrid. Then a new a Saris track. When packing, we take off the front wheels, load the bikes back tire first and attach the forks to the Saris. A perfect fit for our size small bikes. And, to top things off, the service at REI (Bloomington, MN) has been excellent.
ILOVE THIS BIKE
Total blast to use. Fantastic battery life. Four levels of e-assist are amazing. Cannondale quality is excellent. Don’t recommend for dirt and trail riding unless you change the tires, even then lack of suspension is painful. I’ve tried it.
Cannondale Gravel e-bike
This is a fantastic bike at a great price point. Not crazy about the color, but at least it’s not flat black! I have 2 e-mountain bikes with Shimano Steps and Yamaha motors. The Bosch motor on this bike is so much smoother during assist. Great battery life, brakes, wheel set, etc. Get one...it’ll change your life. Or, at least make you want to road ride again.
great bike depending on your location
I bought this bike kind of impulsively when it was on sale back in March so I got it at significantly reduced price which is the main reason I bought it. Had it delivered to my house, no big deal. The other big reason was it is a Cannondale and I covet this Euro trash brand because I'm a silly American. It is important to note that I live and spend most of my time in the Phoenix, Arizona area. This bike taught me that I can pedal a forty pound bike on my own power on flat, straight land at about 20 mph for however long I need to. The longest ride I took was 50 miles and it was up steep hills (Fountain Hills) and the assist def came in useful by the end when I was tired. After putting more than a thousand miles on the bike I can say the assist up to 20 is mostly useless for me. I did a 7 mi ride to the gym and back today and the total elevation change was seven feet. Which is kinda nuts. But that's the Valley of the Sun. This is of note when you are looking to purchase a class 1 E bike. I will be swapping this out for a Class 3 (28 mph) as soon as possible. Right now I can't do anything besides ride it because of the ongoing pandemic. That said, it's really fun to ride. I've taken it on trails (south mountain) and along the canal and on the street. You must go tubeless. The battery lasts FOREVER. But this is also because I am hardly using much battery power on my flat, straight rides. I could probably get over 150 miles out of the battery on Sport mode riding around PHX. In ECO mode I could probably get over 200 miles on one charge. The only time the assist is needed is starting out and coming out of turns. The modes on the computer are OK. The odometer readout is big and easy to read which I love peeking at flying 40 mph down a hill. If it were me I'd put three settings: OFF, ECO and FAST. The sport and Turbo modes are basically the same, I see no significant difference. The 1-11 gearing is perfect. You can glide up super steep trails and go faster than 40 mph with the cranks still providing power down hills. I would say the pedals stop providing power nearing 50 mph. Solid bike. I bought a large frame which is too big for me (just under 5'10"). Everything works, I've tried my best to wreck it and so far it keeps going. I did not give it 5 stars simply because it isn't the ideal bike for where I live and the kind of riding I do.
