if you can get this on sale, definitely worth it. it is waterproof for sure, never had any water inside the tent. but condensation may be a problem if really hate any sort of wetness at all.. regardless, the tent kept me dry and warm (even during storms with high winds). it is very lightweight while still being a good size and solid for 2 people (6ft+) to sleep side by side. i can understand some of the other reviews that mention the plastic clips breaking (hasn’t happened to me) so that is a potential problem, but overall i think this is a great tent if you can grab it on sale. full price… i think you can find better options
This is a good tent with only one flaw; the loops that attach the tent to the pole will come loose in only moderately high winds. . say around 20 mph winds. I want to love this tent. The size is great but this is unacceptable. I sold the Ghost UL 3 to buy this tent and I wish I hadn't. The pole attachment is unique but apparently won't stay attached in some cases. We set up on a mountain top and the wind blew all night long. In the morning there were about three attachment points that had become detached. The poles have hooks that attach to the loop attachment points on the tent and three of the loops were no longer "hooked". Maybe in a harder wind, or longer duration, no more attachment points would have become unhooked but there's no telling. I've had the Ghost UL 3 in winds too and that style of attachment did not have trouble. Again, it's a good tent aside from that. Defintaely not as light as the Ghost UL 3 but it's bigger with dual entry so there's a trade off there.
There is a plastic clip that holds the two main tent poles together at the top of the tent. It broke the very first time I set it up. I wasn’t forcing anything or tugging on any part of the tent excessively and it just broke on me. Very disappointing. Also, there is the cross pole that spans the tent from door to door. Is that just supposed to float freely or should it attach to the main poles? I’ve never encountered a design like this where it just floats freely. Other than that, tent seems fine. Very roomy especially for the weight. I will most likely just exchange this for another one since it has great reviews and was otherwise just fine but I am definitely disappointed that it broke.
The tent is light! I’m talking super light and I’ve carried it once to the backcountry. I took it on a lte fall trip and it’s comparable to other mesh tents if the temperature drops it could get a little cold in the tent. It did drop into the 30s. However setup is quick, no wind so I cannot attest to the strength but it does have the standard setup of three poles that keep it sturdy. I had and old mesh tent and it was time to retire it as it started to need resealing. It’s amazing how technology has pushed this tent further along. Lots of room two campers and plenty of room for gear. I did buy the footprint because I hate getting punctures in the tent. My typical car camping trip will use this so we’ll see how it holds up. Planning on using this on a trip to Mt. Whitney or JMT or PCT this summer when I do some decent hikes into the backcountry.
I bought this tent over a year ago and had in out in Flagstaff Arizona on Mt. Humphreys Peak Trail, pitch time is 3 mins super Ultralight for Backpacking even when carrying alone, excellent materials and protection from the elements. Highly recommend this tent. Best 3 person Backpacking Tent on the market. 3lbs 10 ounces Trail Weight. Easily fits 3 adults.
This tent is everything I hoped it would be. I use this as a comfortable 2 person tent. It's lightweight and takes less than a minute to construct. The hooks and intuitive design make it easy for anyone to setup, no instructions needed. The mesh roof is great for stargazing and summer nights. Two entryways makes it easy to get in and out of the tent. No nasty flame retardant chemicals were used! I have yet to test it out in a storm or heavy rain but if there's any issues I'm pretty sure it'll be my fault.
I wanted to love this tent. Easy set up, lightweight, nice and big for 2 people and a big dog, plus our packs. Second night on a backpacking trip the rain hit for 12 hours, the tent fly started seeping water in from the top after just an hour or 2, the poles condensed water and dripped so much water onto the mesh that eventually it started raining water on all of our gear. The water seeped down the mesh walls and into the tent where the mesh ended, causing puddles to form and getting our gear wet. It was not a great experience, we returned it the day we got back from the trip.
I've had this tent for maybe two years now. I love it. Very light for the size, easy to set up, spacious for 2, thoughtful and useful design, and I even enjoy the colors. It vents well, even when raining. I've mainly used it in the Rockies and Utah desert. Only complaint is it can be difficult to clean after a couple weeks in the desert, specifically the fly. This is probably more due to the desert, not the tent, but like I said, my only complaint. The fly is incredibly lightweight, so I'd say the tradeoff is worth it. I would absolutely purchase this tent again.
We bought this tent partly because we liked the weight/space specs, but what really put it over the top was that it has NO fire-resistant chemicals in it...something that is very hard to find in the US (unlike Europe, where these chemicals are banned for health reasons). My wife and I used this tent for the first time a couple of weeks ago, on the Olympic Peninsula. Even though it is a 3-person tent, it's lighter and more compact than our other backpacking tent, which is for 2 people. Set up was straightforward and easy...it would be hard to do it wrong. The way the tent clips to the poles is unique, and took about a minute to master, but then we loved it...a simple solution that seems very light weight. I knew the tent came with seam sealer, but I didn't bother using it before we went out...guess I'm an optimist? That said, we woke up in the middle of the first night to rain pounding on the fly. Hard. This went on for about three hours. And yet...we remained completely dry! I figured at least SOME water would have come through, but I could not find any evidence that it had, either that night or in the morning. All in all, a very nice, light weight and dry tent. And with the bonus of no toxic chemicals. We're pleased with it!
Easy to set up, even on first attempt didn't take more than a few minutes (alone) - it's intuitive, nothing to overthink about (like matching colours, trying to guess the side or whatever). The pole hooks for inner tent cords are an amazing innovation - I did treat them carefully after reading some negative reviews, but they don't look like snapping anytime soon. Very roomy inside, thanks to slightly pre-bent poles. It's a proper hotel for 2 and child/dog/gear, or a cozy place for 3. All in all - that's probably the best tent I've ever had at a fraction of the weight (1.8kg full set!!!). And the only thing it's missing (considering the price point) is a footprint, which is not that easy to find even to buy separately online.
