This is a very nice Headlamp and it comes with Duracell batteries as well which is SUPER helpful so you don't need to go out and buy anything extra for it. I used this in the Porcupine Mountains for a week long hiking trip and it worked excellent!! Also a really cool feature is it has a hinge so you can tilt the light up or down for certain uses. You can also buy the rechargable battery system so you don't need to worry about buying more batteries. Great product and very recommendable!
I have used Petzl headlamps for years. Only problem is after some time without dropping it , it just cracks on its own. Not sure why. And don’t use it that much. So I am now going to try black diamond headlamp.
We used these for our hike back from our elopement and they worked wonderfully
Great, cost effective, lightweight and functional. I use the light for my beachside open fire grilling. Headband is comfortable and the fold down light works well with a ball cap.
Okay, I poured through reviews for headlights, read up on different specs and almost talked myself in to dropping some serious coin on a suped-up something ...before I remembered: it just a flipping headlamp to use around the campsite or on the trail when you are late getting there. You are more apt to lose it before it wears out. Battery life and lumens are the key things to bear in mind, and this one has plenty for each.
I like Petzl products and this one does not disappoint. The hybrid nature of the rechargeable battery and regular AAA is good for backup purposes, or buying without the rechargeable makes it affordable. I would compare this more to like an old carbide lamp, the light is a little diffused, which is good for caving or pitch black situations to preserve peripheral vision. If you want more of a modern LED torch, consider something like the Ultimate Survival Technologies Brila 580 Dual Power Headlamp. I have both, and I like having the options.
I’ve had several different brands, but IMO Petzl is the better headlamp. And this one has very easy operation. Three settings. Once you stop on a setting, it will turn off on the next press. Other brands I’ve had have been confusing but Petzi Tikkina is simple, cheap, light wight, and reliable. The only con is that it’s not waterproof. But for $20, no big deal. Triple AAA last longer than a USB light and when going out for more than a few days, carrying batteries is lighter and more reliable.
Petzl generally makes good quality equipment. I use Petzl crampons and helmet for winter hiking on ice & snow. However, the Tikka headlamp has been disappointing. It worked okay intermittently the first year, but now it fails to operate half the time, even with fresh batteries. It could be that I got a lemon but, alas, it was purchased over a year ago, so I cannot return it. Good thing that I always carry a backup light for night hiking, otherwise, it would have been difficult to get down the mountain during a moonless night with a non-operating Tikka headlamp. My backup is a better model Petzl, which works fine, knock on cambium.
This is a nice little headlamp, light, with 2 different strengths and the brightest is very bright. I haven't used it hiking yet but I use it walking my dogs almost every night and it really is great.
Got this for $15 on sale. It was great for the price, but the light doesn't reach very far. Everything you need for cooking at night or setting up camp, but if you're looking to hike at night I would recommend something a little better.
