unfortunately a disposable product
Purchased fall 2020 for upcoming winter hikes and walks here in the north, northeast. Initially the product functioned well enough for the very few times I used it. Heated quickly and held the charge long enough for a multi hour winter hike. Honestly used it perhaps 10 times in the past 2 years. Went to charge it up today for an upcoming hike and it literally does nothing. Won't take a charge. Dead. Disappointing as I had hoped to use this in lieu of single use hand warmers however not worth the price for the limited return of use.
Zippo HeatBank Rechargeable Hand Warmer
The Zippo hand warmer is not my first rechargeable hand warmer but it is certainly the best one I've owned. The option to have either one or two sides of the hand warmer heat up is a great feature. Using the single side heating feature at the medium setting, the charge lasted more than 10 hours. As of yet this season, I've not felt the need for more heat than the medium setting. Time & outside temperature will tell if I need more heat from the warmer. Having the ability of plugging in my cell phone is a nice option although the heater will not operate while charging the phone.
Plenty of warmth.
These warmers provide plenty of warmth but will likely never provide the duration advertised. I have used them on the lowest setting and they will be almost depleted after 4-5 hours. The warmth provided at this setting has been plenty in slightly below freezing temperatures.
Worst customer service ever!
I love this hand warmer… but I have to change my 5 star review after dealing with customer relations. It’s been over a year since I sent mine back for repairs after it stopped working within the first six months. They refuse to send it back to me.
Note on intructions
I was confused on how the lights indicated if they were checking charge vs. setting heat levels. When using as battery, heat function is auto turned off. Therefore: When using battery (charging into the unit or out of the unit), the lights are for battery level. When not charging then unit is in heat mode and lights indicate heat settings. So no need to do anything to switch between battery and heater mode- it senses if USB is connected or not. Only using for third time over 15 months. Holds charge and feels warm-hot in short test. Price on high side for what it is ($20 charger + heat coil) but if you expect to be cold for 2-3 hours, it is worth the price.
Nice idea but save your money
I was really excited to give this to my mom for her birthday, she loves snowshoeing so I thought it would be perfect. Huge disappointment when she opened the box to charge it and it didn’t even hold a charge. I’ve contacted zippo by a hone and email and no one has even gotten back to me. Save your money.
Amazing rechargeable heater + phone charger...
Bought this for family member who has Raynaud's, a medical condition that causes circulation to leave fingers, which heat restores. This 9 hour hand warmer discretely sits in a backpack or purse for several days and then successfully is used as needed to warm and restore circulation. This has worked great for 3 months. In addition, I took one on a cruise. There was ONE electric outlet and it was no where near the bed. I slept with this charging my phone bedside and woke up with a fully charged phone every morning. FAB! I then plugged it in to charge for heat needs later each day. Charges fast. So much better than the smaller one (3 hour) that we gave a go. The 9hr always seems to have juice for heat or a phone charge & recharges quickly.
Doesn't charge properly
I can only assume this unit is defective, since the other reviews don't mention charging issues. When plugged in, one blue light flashes for a bit, then the second blue light flashes with one solid blue light. After about 20 minutes there's nothing. I wasn't sure if it was the indicator lights, or the battery itself, so I've tried leaving it plugged in all day, which hasn't changed anything. When you press on the button once to display the charge, it only shows one blue light, indicating it needs to be charged. When you plug it back in, it does the same thing, showing one blue flashing light for 15-20 minutes, and then nothing. It does produce heat but only for a couple of hours on the lowest setting, although the lowest setting is already quite warm. But when I'm sitting in my hunting blind with temps in the 20s I need something that's going to last a lot longer than that. We're either going to return or try to exchange for something that hopefully isn't defective.
Excellent warmers for a Short Time. Keep shopping
I got two of these to put in my mittens when snowblowing at below zero temps. They were awesome all last winter, and kept my hands toasty warm on lower setting (1 or 2 out of 6). Now it's below zero out, and I tried to use them, and they were both dead. Like other reviews said, no charging lights or power level lights, and no warmth. Would not recommend due to the cost, and short life span. Too bad, really.
sad
i used this for one night camping in the grand canyon during March, it worked fine. 7 months later, it will not turn on or charge or do anything :( and i can't return since its past REI's 3 month rule
