Great, except for the rainproof part
I bought the Syncline at REI at the end of the model year in 2019 for a discount; It now looks slightly different. Maybe they improved the weatherproofing. I hope so. I just finished a 3 day bikepacking trip and unfortunately definitely got soaked through. It wasn't sweat. It was soaking on my shoulders and arms. I had noticed similar problems earlier but had never really been caught in a heavy and extended rain before. This was a failure. I think I am in the two year warranty from Showers Pass and will try to get my money back. If not, I'll sell it on REI Used. I have already order the Co-Op version of this and am hoping for a much better outcome.
Not waterproof! Not even close!
You might think, from the name "Showers Pass" and the product photos on the REI website, that this jacket is waterproof. You'd be wrong - oh so wrong. It doesn't even have to be raining particularly hard for your clothing to get damp. You also might think that a since it's called a "Cycling Jacket" it would have a pouch or pocket in back, rather than just side pockets. You'd be wrong about that, too. Did I mention that it's not particularly warm? This is the most disappointing purchase I've made in four decades of shopping at REI. I'm returning it for sure. If you're thinking of purchasing this jacket, "Just don't do it!"
Excellent
I technically have the previous version of this jacket. I got it for Christmas, the only difference I see is that this one has the CC in the name and it might not have the same reflectors on the wrist. I'm assuming it is the same otherwise. The descriptions sound like they have the same waterproofing, and I can say from experience that this jacket is definitely waterproof! I've worn it twice so far and love it. The vents under the arm work perfectly and the elastic in the waist is an excellent touch. I haven't overheated in this jacket. The sleeves have Velcro to keep them tight on the wrist and I just in Velcro when I get warmer. All in all I'm incredibly happy with this purchase! I'll definitely be looking at showers pass for my future rain gear purchases
Kept me dry on the Olympic Peninsula
I bought this rain jacket for a bicycling trip from Olympia, WA to Mt. Vernon, WA. I rode 130 miles over 2 days on the Olympic Peninsula. Even though it rained about 25% of the time the jacket kept me warm and dry. I couldn't have made it without the jacket.
very light weight, good protection, arm vents
very impresssed. high quality. this is one of the only windbreakers i could find with under arm vents. (ideally they wolud be bigger but still decent) I do believe the sizing is a little off compared to most biking sizes - normally i need a large for all biking shirts, and also based on this jacket's specs for waist bought the large... but the medium would have been perfect for me. but since i can't return it (due to Corona virus), will just use it.
Just a rain jacket
To be clear, this is just a rain jacket. It is just a thin single layer shell. It's advertised as a cycling jacket, but neither the cut nor the fit suggests it was designed for cycling. I expected more of a cycling jacket cut and I thought it had some insulating properties, which it does not. Probably fine for a rain jacket, but not what I needed. I returned it.
Breathes well and waterproof
Stylish and waterproof: almost perfect, but not quite. My two complaints are actually suggestions for improvement. First one is to put a lining in the pockets. The mesh lining is easily snagged/ripped by keys. Second one would be an adjustment to cinch the hood's visor.
Not all that waterproof
Nice jacket. But first time I used it in heavy rain, my sleeves got wet, and so did my phone in the pocket. I had to go back to the listing to see if they claimed it was waterproof, wondered if I had just misread it.
Not at all waterproof
Recently purchased. Jacket soaks through completely at the sleeves and the belly zippers. I wear it as a windbreaker on clear days, and no moisture issues, so it's not a breathability issue. Either way, it's advertised as waterproof AND breathable, so it shouldn't matter why It's oaking wet when I get done riding. It also dries very slowly, and is often still wet at the end of the day despite hanging to dry for 8 hours. I'll be exchanging this one...
