Moisture-wicking and perfect for cold weather runs
Received free product
SUMMARY: I suggest wearing these pants at 45 degrees or below for running because they get a little heavy and hot above that temperature. These pants are very moisture wicking, flexible, and light. They also dry fast and look stylish. I also love wearing them for Fall dog walks and hikes because there are plenty of pockets for phone, keys, credit cards/cash, and snacks. DETAILS: I'm a runner who always wears running tights so I must admit I was a bit skeptical about wearing a heavier, semi-fitted pant for trail running. I was also worried about fit because I have a hard time finding pants that fit me because I have a wide waist, big butt, but short legs that aren’t proportionally as big. Anyways, when I first tried on the mediums (I wear a 8-10 in pants), I was really impressed by the way they looked. They fit right at my waist and were not too long. They were also great on my first 4-mile run. They were very moisture wicking and flexible albeit a bit heavy and hot (this run was in the 50-degree F range). On this run, I put my phone in one of the two large pockets and I was pleasantly surprised that It didn’t fall out or get drenched with sweat. The next run I wore these pants on was a 18 mile trail run in the Ouachita Mountains, again in the 50’s F. I wear a hydration vest for water that has a spot for my phone so this time I didn’t use the pockets on these pants for my phone. I did however use the smaller pocket that lies within the big pocket for some of my fuel (gel packet). Due to the heat, these pants did start to feel a bit heavy around mile 8. However, they never sagged too much and their moisture-wicking capabilities ensured that sweat dissipated quickly and the pants stayed mostly dry. Therefore, I had no chafing from these pants on this long run. After the run they were caked with mud, but the material of the pants made them extremely easy to clean. These pants have a large pocket capacity with two large pockets on either hip (where normal pants pockets would be), one mesh pocket within one of the large pockets (right leg), one medium capacity zippered pocket on the left mid-thigh, and a zippered pocket on the waist. I know a lot of people like pockets, but I don’t know what you would put in all of these pockets. In my time wearing these pants, I’ve only used the large pocket for a phone, the small pocket for running fuel, and the zippered pocket on a walk for a credit card, cash, and key. I honestly forgot about the waist pocket until I looked at these pants again before writing up my review. I’m not sure I’d want to fill all of these pockets up on a long run because I think they may cause chafing, but I haven’t tried it mostly because I put most of these items in my running hydration vest.

These pants are fine...not great, not bad. They are comfortable, but the fit isn't quite right. The length is a bit short (I'm 5'10", but have a 'regular' inseam). I feel like the rise in the pant isn't tall enough; the part from the crotch to the waist. I would call these hip height pants which may not be what you want for actual running. If you want warm pants for chilly morning runs, these would do the trick either by themselves, or you could wear a pair of leggings underneath. Which brings me to the next observation. When I wear leggings, I do not wear underwear underneath. I wouldn't wear these pants without wearing something underneath which may have impact on using them as running pants. There is a nice zipper pocket on the left leg, but putting anything heaving in it (like a phone) is super annoying if running, or even walking any distance. There are two hand pockets, but as running pants, not sure why?

Great All-Purpose Pant!

For all you ladies complaining that there is no waistband drawstring, look a little closer. It’s a flat, elastic drawstring at the front, inside waistband. Black on black might be adding to confusion. You’re really only a slip knot away from being in love with these amazing pants. Not too tight, they’re perfect for a bike ride to town for dinner and drinks. We have a white pup, and these repel his hair which was an unexpected value. I wear them sailing, as the DWR is great for wind and occasional light sea spray. I am in love with these pants, and I found them on sale-BONUS! Would I recommend? Emphatically YES!!

These pants are the only thing I like right now.

THE ONLY THING. I will never love another pair of pants more than these pants. These are absolute perfection. Perfect fit...lightly loose, but NOT joggers (they don't have that silly "jogger" style cuff at the bottom. They hug everything perfectly without being skin-tight leggings. They are warm, soft, stretchy in the most high-quality way. These are fantastically made, well thought out pants. I rarely write reviews, but these pants are perfect. the left leg pocket fits my cell phone while hiking and the length is perfect. The size is perfect. Seriously, REI, you nailed it! These pants are the ONLY think I like right now.

The BEST hiking pants

I can’t say how much I love these hiking pants. They fit a little tighter than traditional hiking pants, but aren’t skin tight by leggings and they have amazing pockets! They also don’t stretch out after multiple days of use on trail. They are a little thicker, so not ideal for hot summer hiking, but overall fantastic. I had a pair that I got a few years ago and ripped in the leg after chasing my dog through some brush and I was bummed because I couldn’t find another pair - so I kept wearing them because I love them that much! I was pumped when I found them for 40% off - seriously bought two pair. Love, love, love!!!

Favorite Trail Pants

I love these pants! They are super comfortable, fit is loose and true to size. I have worn them in multiple weather conditions and they performed well in cool to cold temperatures even in high winds. They were great running and hiking. I like the pockets. I easily fit a phone in one pocket, keys, ID and $ in the zipper pocket while on a hike. They breathed well. They seem durable—the dogs with us didn’t leave a mark on them. My only wish: that they came in tall sizes, but I have long legs.

My holy grail outdoor pant

I can’t say enough good things about these pants! I have a curvy and athletic figure (larger butt and thighs) and finding outdoor recreation pants has been so difficult! I work outside and like to wear bike shorts under my pants so I can pull the pants off easily when I get home. These have the perfect amount of stretch to fit layers under without getting too baggy. I also love how comfortable the waistband is! I normally have to size up in pants to layer but these I didn’t have to.

Really comfortable trail pants

Received free product

I love these pants! I’ve had them a couple of weeks and I’ve worn them running, hiking and doing errands. They are warm in cooler weather, but they breath... so even when I was running in them I didn’t get too warm. I really like that they repel water. I live in the PNW (where it rains a lot). I think I’m going to be living in these this winter. There is a zippered pocker for I.D. and money, as well as a key pocket. I found them true to size.

just buy them

These are the best hiking pants I've come across. They're breathable enough for most summer hiking and with an extra layer they're perfect for windchill into the single digits. Im 5'10" with an athletic build and the fit is super flattering. The only thing Id change is the drawstring on the waistband. it doesn't do the best at staying tight but I tied a slip knot and the problem is solved.

Quality Control Issues

If I was reviewing the pair I purchased last year, they would get five stars - hands down, despite the high price tag. I love them. I got a medium then, and they are like the perfect tights on my larger lower half. They fit so nicely over my big calves unlike other tights. And they are flattering. However, I ordered another pair this year in the same size, and they are much tighter and the pockets stick out like crazy. I thought maybe a large would be better, but they are huge on me (bigger than the look on the model in the photo), and I'm not about to give $90 for pants that fall off. These pants are breathable and flexible and have held up in the woods. I would say to give them a shot - order two sizes since REI has a good return policy. If I could get two more pairs that fit just like the first one, I would spend the money. These are quite expensive.
